Eric Manoah and his 5.37 Brooklyn Cyclone ERA heading out.

Any thoughts on putting Reyes primarily at second and Flores primarily at third? I mean, I know Terry will never go for it, but would you?

And the Brewers win! Mets within a game and a half of the second wild card slot. In addition to Carlos Torres bailing out Matt Garza, ex-Mets get BIG representation from Kirk Nieuwenhuis, proving all the Brewer scoring with a three-run homer and making an outstanding diving catch on top of that. Made the catch for the last out, too.

Kirk struck out on high cheese, the way he does.

I knew that signing would pay off.

Tuning in now to St. Louis losing to Milwaukee. Old Buddy Carlos Torres on for the Cerveceros, two out and bases loaded for Peralta. OE: FLY OUT TO CENTER!

They pull a half a game ahead of Pittsburgh, and that'll be a full game if the Cubbies hang on.

It's more than the brown, though. I've been trying to figure out how we can allow the user to put some customizing code in there. Padding ... centering ... merging. I can't program any of that in there.

I wonder if they'll trade for him next season also.

Sheesh: Wilmer Flores is slugging the ball all over the place, OPSing .866 in August after a .957 July. He also brings a sugary magic with him to the ballpark every time he plays. José Reyes has been a freaking dervish and the leadoff hitter this team hasn't had since ... José Reyes. Gavin Cecchini is a number-one draft choice hitting .330 / .391 / .454 // .845 in Las Vegas. T.J. Rivera has hit over .300 at every level he's seen, except the big leagues where he's currently 11 points short. Give him time. Meanwhile, he's at .347 / .388 / .508 // .896 in AAA. I don't care how thin the air is or how old he is relative to the league. Guys who hit like that get paid. Ty Kelly is playing for the same team, going .328 / .409 / .435 // .844 and he's funny. He's hit a little in the bigs too. Phil Evans is a middle round draftee who got early round money to forego college, hitting .328 / .367 / .475 // .842 in Binghamton. He's fifth in the league in batting average. Amed Rosario is a consensus top 20 prospect, top 10 on at least a few lists, hitting .324 / .375 / .473 // .848 at 20 years old in the Eastern League. L.J. Mazzilli is named L.J. Mazzilli. They may combine to create a ridiculous glut of talent or they may all flop. So might Herrera. But what do you want? Eggs in your beer?

Dilson Shmillson. The Reds haven't even called him up yet.

Brown tables suck.

Pick a wanky slogan. Scar it into your body so you can EMBODY it.

Yeah, who knew it would be such a hopeful life to go into September seventh among 15 teams in the league? #betterthanthemean

Jake Esch: high upside but frustratingly inconsistent 26-year-old right-hander. Mid-90s fastball, a plus change up, and a plus slider, along with a developing curveball. Gets into control problems, as indicated by his 3.0/9 IP walk rate, along with his underwhelming 6.5/9 IP strikeout rate. But his middle name is Otto. That's got to be worth something. Jacob Otto Esch. I think he was a higher up in the Luftwaffe.

Grandy suddenly hitting cleanup. Flores over Lonesome Dove at first against a righty. Johnson batting eighth when he had hit third and fourth against righties earlier in the week. Bruce buried in the sixth slot. Terry is rolling the dice. The big, fuzzy ones.

Yeah, I follow Mandy online too. She's his best friend. Well, the double play is his best friend, and then Amanda.

All you've got to do is look at the change in playoff odds in the Wild Card standings to glean what a reversal of fortune last night's win represented. CRANE POOL STANDINGS NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST WILD CARD Just an absolute theft of Miami's lunch. Now to get out the door with it.

Or is professionally prohibited from using weed?

Frayed Knot wrote: This is a tough crowd for relievers. If the Mets disposed of guys after bad outings as often as demanded they'd be halfway through the roster of their Columbia affiliate by now looking for replacements. Yeah, man, life is fraught with peril. There are good days and bad. Just be thankful more guys than not had good days yesterday.

Emil Brown certainly was brown-hued. Ryan Church was decidedly churchy. Eric Hillman was a man who made his living on a hill.

Whichever thread this is, ... cooby wrote: Am I wrong to suppose it can still all happen? A hardy YES!

The Mets, likely despairing of finding a better situation, sign an affiliate agreement extension with Las Vegas for two more years. "Anytime your Triple-A team's across the country, it's tough to get players here," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "The only thing that's good about it, there's enough flights out of Vegas late at night. They are the red-eyes, but they still get them here the next day. But that situation is what it is. I don't have anything else to say except we hope those flights keep going." A ringing endorsement!
