  1. In case you've missed the action, a pattern is developing, wherein Noah Syndergaard apparently is having trouble not calling people "douche" on social media. First came the shot at Bryce Harper on Instagram. Now, there may or may not be any number of reasons to drop "Douche" on Bryce Harper, but this seemingly came out of nowhere, as unprovoked as a beanball. [tweet:3jwjq23i]https://twitter.com/barstoolsports/status/815314942580629504[/tweet:3jwjq23i] But now he seems to have gone after an innocent (if dopey) fan. [tweet:3jwjq23i] [/tweet:3jwjq23i] [tweet:3jwjq23i] [/tweet:3jwjq23i] Either somebody has Syndergaard's password for two different social media platforms, or the Mets' top pitcher is way off of Jay Horwitz's ranch.
  2. PAINT THE WALLS WHITE!
  3. In fairness, reports have him living there, but I don't know whether he was rushed to Torrey Highlands or Sabre Springs or someplace in his final hours. I don't know how particular you are about these things. But posterity thanks you for recording the PoD. OE: Welcome back!
  4. I got scrod by Ticketmaster and arbitrary rules at different outlets for the Stones and for the 1989 U2 shows as well. What a messed-up system. What I enjoyed about the show from the perspective of the horrid nosebleed seats I did manage to get was that it was their first real tour in eight or nine years, and so rather than merely include the de rigueur two singles from the latest album ("Mixed Emotions" and "Rock and a Hard Place") in the standard hits lineup, they included all the neglected singles from the interim years, and so many of the likes "One Hit to the Body," "Too Much Blood," "Undercover of the Night," "She Was Hot," and "Harlem Shuffle" got an airing they hadn't gotten before or since. That said, checking setlist.fm, I see no appearances by "Too Much Blood," so clearly my memory of their mini-set of catching up on the eighties singles is distorted.
  5. Place of death: Rancho Penasquitos, for when Ben Grimm gets back from Iceland or wherever. Cause of death: emphysema.
  6. HahnSolo wrote: He could pass for the father of Josh Satin and/or Michael Conforto. Grandfather, more likely.
  7. The Mona Lisa of baseball card subjects, he never got rid of that secretive half smile. 8. Chris Cannizzaro, who holds the curious distinction of being both a 1962 Mets and a 1969 Padre, has died, reports The San Diego Tribune. Dubbed "Canzaloni" (or the like) by Casey Stengel, Stengel also called him "the only defensive catcher who can't catch." Chris didn't buy it. "If you remember what the background color of the Rheingold Beer sign in center field was [at the Polo Grounds], it was white," Cannizzaro said. "And the ball came right out of that sign. And the umpires used to guess whether it was a ball or a strike and it was tough to catch. And with some pitchers, balls got by me. It was the only park where I dropped balls." "But as far as throwing I had one of the best arms in the National League by far. You don't go to the big leagues when you're 20 years old if you can't do something." Cannizzaro was one of the Padres who had the dubious honor of being no-hit by a tripping-on-acid Doc Ellis.
  9. Ten minutes and then some. I'll go with Collin McHugh. It's all about the Collins.
  10. Way to wake up for Raines, Mike. Interesting that he's in the minority placing Robert Wagner over Dustin Hoffman.
  11. Conlon is the best thing since pizza bagels. Check him out in the Prospect Forum.
  12. Francisco Rodriguez. [fimg=400:6e2yid3z]http://media.lehighvalleylive.com/sports_impact/photo/francisco-rodriguez-arrest-2e67740c68adcf45.jpg[/fimg:6e2yid3z]
  13. I'm Ok with that uni. I know colored pants are colored pants, but I like The courage to be the only team rocking green-and-yalla, the numbers on the front, the balance that the numbers on the front bring, the apostrophe-s on the cap, the embrace of the reality that they were more identifiable by their nickname's initial than by their entire nickname (I didn't know A stood for "Athletics" or anything after several years of collecting cards, and just assumed it meant that they were tops—the league's alphas) the sleevelessness, the contrasting color on the undersleeves, white shoes and stirrups—what's not to like there?
  14. Ron Guidry.
  15. Notable that Clemens and Bonds have the exact same totals, as the case for ("no doubter on the stats") and against ("but he used") is exactly the same.
  16. Nymr83 wrote: Texas isn't ahead of Arizona? by a ton? In my imagination, Texas does well, but they're mostly pitchers. Players can qualify for a certain state team by virtue of birth, high school graduation, college matriculation, or current residency of at least three years (but once you commit to your state, you're committed for life). This system benefits Arizona because of their great collegiate programs. The tournament is played in three-game series—the champion has to play 18 games to advance to the Cup—so Kershaw can't win on his own.
  17. Aaron Laff-a-Lympics. It's all about the Aarons.
  18. T.J.'s Bronx is more Puerto Rico than Shreveport, which is where Seth Lugo comes from. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: I know they want to get as many countries represented as possible. But it really seems like a stretch to have some of these guys represent these countries. Of course, the US has played World Cup soccer matches with a serious paucity of starters actually born in the US. My main issue with Puerto Rico is that I don't want them playing as a nation against other nations, but instead competing as a US state in the 64-team US Baseball Cup of States Championship Tournament that exists only my head, where it is exceedingly well organized, highly popular, and enjoys the simultaneous and spirited participation of the highest-profile professionals and most ambitious amateurs, despite the fact that the final four are almost always, California, Arizona, Florida, and Puerto Rico.
  19. Boy had I forgotten about Maybone. Like, if you put a gun to my head, I'd have said, no, he never played for the team. But he played 59 games.
  20. Aaron Harangutan.
  21. Jason Pridie.
