Ginger Ben Rowen throws another scoreless. Unblemished this spring in 6 1/3. He may be this spring's Big Jim Henderson.

Big steps forward today by Josh Edgin, who struck out both batters he faced, and Robert Gsellman, who threw three scoreless.

A double by Cabrera and a two-run homer by Neil Walker and the Mets re-take the lead.

We have a Tim Tebow hit in captivity.

A third solo homer in as many innings puts the Mets up 3-0, and makes me worried that the offense looks too much like last years, with too much of the surfeit of power wasted by not putting runners on base ahead of the homers. And on that note, Syndergaard coughs it up in the fourth. Your score is 3-3.

#4. Chris Schwinden.

A Cabrera solo shot in the first and a Doody Bomb in the second and the Mets are up 2-0.

Both teams using about five starters. Mets trying to give Tim Tebow one more chance at a hit. Yeah, Michael Conforto's mom was getting ready to log on and remind you that pool dancing is a perfectly authentic and lucrative profession.

Frayed Knot wrote: Sure, although I can understand why they want to use it in a short tournament such as this when you're dealing with not only pitching limits but also a strict schedule and sometimes international travel between rounds. It's come up twice so far in this tourney and in both cases the visiting team scored multiple runs in the top half of the inning while the home team got shut-out in the bottom half trying to match. Which sort of makes sense. If you're in an extra inning tie, and the first two batters reach base, your instinct is going to be to try and make perfect pitches to achieve a shutout inning, and if trying to be too cute risks the big inning, so be it. You're playing with your back against the wall. You've got to stop those baserunners from scoring. Hold the runners, pitch for strikeouts, play the infield in as soon as a runner gets to third. In the bottom of the inning, with several runs home, the visiting team is not particularly worried about the baserunners, and will just pitch to get outs. I think the home team has to adopt a difficult new mindset, taking the field in the top half of the inning concentrating on outs also, not worrying too much about the runners, knowing that they will have the same automatic rally-starter in the bottom of the inning and a damn good chance to get even.

It's a vestige from another chart I grabbed him off of, where the asterisk designated him a lefty. I successfully deleted such extranea from Smoker's and Gilmartin's names, but oh, well.

I was a top Mets pitching prospect. For a few minutes there, I may have been the top Mets pitching prospect, and that's saying something. But a downturn in performance followed by a diagnosis of a torn URL, followed by Tommy John surgery followed by a long rehab, and now I'm little more than a guy, if still a guy whose "top prospect" brand is still strong enough to force the Mets to protect me by putting me on the roster. Anyhow, I'm still a talent, and still a handsome devil when I'm not rocking a stupid beard and quasi-mohawk. And I put up some decent returns in the AFL and I'm hoping to get back on track. Fast-track? Slow track? Starter? Reliever? What's it gonna be? Most good Pixar (most good animated) movies have themes for parents as much as for kidzz. This one was more the former, as the parents cheerfully work through with their daughter through their worry, trying to help her find adaptations for her memory issues. Baby Dory was adoryble.

We missed that this guy signed last week. He's pitched indy ball the last two years, and not particularly effectively, but he had a successful year for Milwaukee back in 2013. He was sent straight to minor league camp and will likely open with Binghamton. While we were mourning a CPF outage, the Mets were losing a close one to the Tigers, 4-3. The big blow for the Mets came on L.J. Mazzilli's second home run in the spring. L.J.'s spring training continues to be remarkable not just for the 1.058 OPS he's put up, but merely for the fact that he's garnered something like 16 plate appearances while not actually being a camp invitee, but regularly getting into games as a guest, moreso that a lot of actual invitees across Florida. L.J. may have, in the end, made more hay out of the WBC than anybody, taking appearances that may have otherwise gone to T.J. Rivera or Ty Kelly. The game also feature 2 2/3 innings of shutout starting pitching from #8 starter Adam Wilk, outdueling defending Rookie of the Year (and that's an award that's never been successfully defended) Michael Fulmer, who gave up two runs on the Mazzilli homer and another one to Patrick Biondi. All four Tiger runs were charged to Kyle Regnault in the fifth and sixth, but two runs came after Rafael Montero took over with the runners on base. It was very much a Sunday/travel day lineup, with no expected regulars appearing and only two guys—Conforto, Flores—favored to currently even make the team. Phil Evans started at second a day after his demotion and took his disappointment out on the ball, going 2-2 with a run scored. Taking over for Wilk and pitching an inning and 2/3 scoreless was former Brewers (and, very briefly, Reds) swingman Donovan Hand, who the team apparently signed 10 days ago, but it completely went under all of our radars.

The closest thing to a surprise in the first round of cuts is maybe David Roseboom. He was the maybe the third or fourth lefthanded reliever, until shortly before camp, when Gorzelanny and Blevins were signed one on top of the other. The bigger surprises may be who didn't get farmed out—Gorzelanny, who isn't fooling anybody; Becerra, who has to prove his power isn't gone; and maybe Taijeron, who the team has regularly passed over when they've needed outfielders, but they probably have to take a look at this year, considering the relative lack of other righthanded-hitting outfield options. In my experience, Rocky Balboa got a mostly positive reception.

I'm curious if he's still able to get a visa. It's weird how his fate is so tied to Rob Manfred. I mean, presumably he could play in the Atlantic League, or another circuit who'd have no obligation to honor his suspension. But earning $$$ as a ballplayer might prejudice MLB against him somehow. But hey, he's on the roster, if only technically, so he got a thread.

So I did something strange. I negotiated for a salary that I'll never collect a dime of. I'm under suspension. A permanent/not permanent ban, as it were. Hey, I'm on the roster. I don't know what to say. Three strikes and you're out, but at the end of this season, I may have an opportunity to return to the plate one more time. Or the rubber. That's what I meant. It's only right that I get a second chance. Or fourth. Or whatever. Or maybe sooner, if I can get a court to entertain my appeal. But at this point I'm probably going to wait out the season and apply for reinstatement. Or will I? Maybe you know. Listen I may never make it back. But let's be clear—I had the long hair rocking before any of those punk white guys. So how's my year gonna look? Let me know. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to take my vitamins. Albert Pujols has truly been a great baserunner over the course of his career. He's older now and less able, but young Pujols had that part of the game down to a science. I don't see much of him in the American League, but if his instincts are half as good, good for him.

Toronto reliever T.J. House was taken away off the field in an ambulance after being hit on the head by a line drive up the middle. Hope he is OK. On a less traumatic note, Albert Pujols looks fat.

Lucas Duda just parked his first homer in forever, scoring Jay Bruce along with himself. Combined with Yoenis Céspedes' solo shot two innings earlier, the 7-0 deficit has been trimmed to 7-3. Our nation turns it's lonely eyes to Tebow.

Mets in St. Lucie down 7-1 as Addie Reed just gave up six (!!) in 2/3 of an inning.
