I suspect it's in part Terry having cold feet about Conforto in center.

Wait a micron ... they're benching Conforto against the only righty starter that they expect to see in the series?

The 58th SAL All-Star Game is scheduled for June 20, and it promises to be a very Columbian affair. Not only will the Fireflies be hosing the game in their state-of-the-art Spirit Communications Park, but Columbia manager José Leger will be skippering the Southern Division squad, and pitching coach Jonathan Hurst will be supervising the star pitchers. It's certainly hard to argue with Hurst's appointment, as two of his pitchers are setting the standard for all minor league hurlers this season—Merandy Gonzalez (8-1, 1.56) and Jordan Humphreys (9-1 1.41). Both will be joining their coach and manager on the All Star roster, and this reporter would be SHOCKED if one of them isn't selected to start the game. Joining the fearsome pair will be reliever Max Kuhns (1-0, 2.10, 6 saves) a 2016 21st round draft choice out of Santa Clara who has emerged as the Fireflies closer. It takes more than pitching to rule the Skeeter Circuit, and that's why the Fireflies celebrate the all-star status of Michael Paez. Mike is also a 2016 draftee, a fourth-rounder out of Coastal Carolina, raking to the tune of a .291 /.386 /.503 // .888 clip, ripping six homers and driving in 38, while also swiping seven bags. That's not bad for a left fielder. But for a second baseman like Michael, it's the sort of half season that gets you invited to an all-star game. Lastly, these glimmering lights are joined by 2014 draftee Dash "O' Salt" Winningham. Staffing first base for the Flies, Dash has bounced back from a slow start to find his power bat, hitting 10 homers, good for fifth in the circuit, while upping his overall line to .252 / .306 / .448 // .754. I know what you're thinking. None of this makes up for the desperately slow start of Desmond Lindsay and the milky substance that clings to the team that is Tim Tebow. Well, I say you can't get all the breaks, and five all-stars and a 36-25 record, sitting the team a half game off the division pace, is a pretty shiny penny. The game goes down at 7:05 p.m. ET on June 20th, and will be live-streamed on MiLB.TV. Hopefully, the Mets hold off on any promotions for this sterling bunch until after the game goes down. Tune in! Well, we're missing Arrieta, and as chilling as it might seem to be hosting the Cubs, a series where Lester is our toughest draw sounds like something we can work with. Here's hoping that that "(L)" next to the last two names inspire Céspedes and Flores to do what they're paid to do.

As painful as it is to see the Mets' pitching staff fall to bits, I have to imagine that fears are even more pronounced for Chicago that Lackey and even Arrieta will never be their bad selves again.

Rogers, a cross between Steve Trevor and Steve Rogers, had been mostly scheduled to go between 10 and 14 to my reading. 6'6" lefty or no, high school pitchers are high-risk players.

Why, hello, 12th or 13th most effective pitching staff in the league! Draft projections fall apart pretty quickly, but a small amount of consensus seems to be building around Pearson. He says he isn't surprised that he hit three digits in a bullpen for scouts, that it was always there, but he doesn't unleash it, because he's a starter and he's trying to preserve his strength. When speaking about his stuff, he says "velo" a lot, which strikes me as a little off. Anyway, just look at this babyface trying to look like a badass. [fimg=500]https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/3JvoJWgQuKerC0_37VbCst1rcg8=/0x0:449x303/920x613/filters:focal(135x9:205x79):format(webp)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/55086483/np.0.png[/fimg] Don't let that face fool you, though, as it sits atop a Syndergaardian frame of 6'6" 240. Just reading that makes me want to send him for an MRI, and if he went, we'd get a nice 3D image of the screw he already has in his elbow. He keeps it in the zone with the big four pitches, but the breaking stuff isn't weaponized yet. I say, if you throw 100 with command, just having off-speed stuff is a weapon. Here he is terrorizing JuCo hitters. That's a curious motion he has—not quite from the windup and not quite from the set. lfI1UBfJOUA He's the first ballplayer I've ever read as saying "Growing up, I was a Rays fan." Really? OK, Nate!

Considering this came followed an encouraging doubleheader sweep and fell on a Sunday, this victory may be one of the topsiest of the year. It's certainly rare to see the 2017 Mets come out of a weekend on anything like an upswing.

I lost my little logo icons. They resided on kcmets but I guess Kong took that folder down. As you see, the Mets stand poised but vulnerable. If they can acquit themselves well in these next two series, they are in an excellent position to work their way forward over the summer, with the pack behind them helping them take down the leaders. If not, they fall back into the pack and it could be weeks before they come up for air again. Curious how much Baseball Prospectus data disregards Colorado's lofty position, and Milwaukee's persistent first-placin' as well, continuing to put their faith in Los Angeles and Chicago as the likely division champs. Also, check out how bad Pythagoras thinks the Giants are.

Zero so far this year. Looks like he's done, but I've said that before.

Pitched remarkably well as a Rule V-er, given the role Rule V-er's get: irregular work, lots of rest, benevolent spots, and emergency duty. Given a chance for high leverage roles, it all went sideways.

This is the bar. [fimg=750:pxwizpp9]http://ultimatemets.com/scorecard_graph.php?game=8698&font=1[/fimg:pxwizpp9]

Brilliant, gentlemen. THAT'S pitching.

I mean, who do you think Krol wanted to face?

I don't know man. It was the last call of the game. And the gap between #1 and #2 widens when the Braves were deploying a pitcher created in a secret government lab for the express purpose of retiring Conforto. And the Mets already put Grandy in the game, so there's no problem replacing Conforto. A justifiable move.

Holy smokes! Céspedes for Conforto!

I'd use Duda against the fastballer, but Grandy is hot and Dudie not.

Gary uses "I can't imagine" a lot.

Curious if we can get a Céspedes pinch-hit experience this inning.

You've been Blevved. We all have.

Great to see Blevvy retiring Kemp. My faith wasn't strong.
