  1. ConfortoBOOM! Got to bat him third.
  2. A lot of 3-2 counts, but it's good to see how behind Montero the crowd is.
  3. Drafted as a shortstop by the Mets out of Brooklyn's Poly Prep CDS in the now-nonexistent 42nd round back in 2010, J.J. Franco passed on their offer and instead went to Brown. Taken as a secondbaseman by the Braves out of Brown in 2014, he played parts of two summers for Atlanta, getting released after a solid 2014, but appearing in only six games in 2015. Healthy and signed by the White Sox in 2015, he labored on for three more summers in Chicago's system before getting released on Wednesday. On Saturday, his journey came full circle and he was finally signed by the Mets and assigned to the Columbia Fireflies. Also, back in 2015, he briefly joined the family business, pitching a single, perfect inning of relief for the Rome Braves. 4. Grandy the bench player = Grandy the hustler.
  5. Shake it off, Raffy. Your team is resilient, and you can be too!
  6. Cool to see all the girls out there on the field for the anthem.
  7. That's the spirit. Build on the positives. It's hard to imagine a worse inning of baseball.
  8. Cartoon quality surrealism in his first (and so far, only) only game for St. Lucie. Brought in to pitch the eighth inning with his team down 2-1. Pitching Change: Daniel Bard replaces Daison Acosta. Alian Silva hit by pitch. With Ricardo Mendez batting, wild pitch by Daniel Bard, Alian Silva to 2nd. With Ricardo Mendez batting, wild pitch by Daniel Bard, Alian Silva to 3rd. Ricardo Mendez walks. Luis Garcia grounds into a double play, pitcher Daniel Bard to shortstop Kenny Hernandez to first baseman Domingo Martinez. Alian Silva =#FF0000]scores. Ricardo Mendez out at 2nd. Yasel Antuna walks. With Edwin Ventura batting, Yasel Antuna steals (1) 2nd base. Yasel Antuna advances to 3rd, on a throwing error by catcher Robby Kidwell. With Edwin Ventura batting, wild pitch by Daniel Bard, Yasel Antuna =#FF0000]scores. Edwin Ventura hit by pitch. Jackson Cramer walks. Edwin Ventura to 2nd. Juan Pascal walks. Edwin Ventura to 3rd. Jackson Cramer to 2nd. With Jose Sanchez batting, throwing error by Robby Kidwell on the pickoff attempt, Edwin Ventura =#FF0000]scores. Jackson Cramer to 3rd. Juan Pascal to 2nd. Jose Sanchez walks. [*]Pitching Change: Eric Villanueva replaces Daniel Bard. With Israel Pineda batting, wild pitch by Eric Villanueva, Jackson Cramer =#FF0000]scores. Juan Pascal to 3rd. Jose Sanchez to 2nd. Israel Pineda walks. Alian Silva grounds into a force out, shortstop Kenny Hernandez to second baseman Gregory Guerrero. Israel Pineda out at 2nd. Lost track? That's OK, What we've got is a guy pitching to eight batters, recording five walks, two hit batsmen, and three wild pitches. A triple crown of insane wildness. The only two outs he got came on one pitch when the batter made the mistake of putting the ball in play. He even left behind some bad juju on the ball, as his catcher allowed a stolen base and made two throwing errors, and the pitcher who succeeded him came in and immediately delivered a wild pitch and a walk. It's the sort of inning that gets a catcher winded. I've got to hand it to the Mets. When they take on a project, they take on a project. Daniel Bard, you can be certain that I'm rooting for you. Mercy.

I guess my take was that they can sell at the deadline and still compete in the second half. It could be a profitable turnover without being an outright punt. But probably not very successfully if they sell Blevins and Reed and don't bring in some other relievers.
  10. And for the bottom of the 15th, they send Alex Palsha in. [list:oqhiyroj][*:oqhiyroj]Hit batsman. 11. St. Lucie in a marathon tonight. The just went up 4-3 over the Florida Firefrogs in the 15th. Justin Dunn started and gave up all three runs in six innings. Eight scoreless innings so far for the bullpen.
  12. The Mets attempt to stymie their own GM in his plans to break up his team, as a pair of struggling starters lock horns, with Daniel Gossett (1–5, 5.79) going up against Rafael Montero (1–6, 5.40). Gossett had one of his best starts of the season last time out, giving up three runs in seven innings against Tampa. He's given up 10 homers in only 37 1/3 innings, so, you know, make a note of that. A BIG note. Montero did OK his last go-round also, giving up four runs, but only two earned, in six innings against St. Louis. He also kept his customary wildness in check, walking only one, and being around the plate most of the game. Raffy differs markedly from Gossett (who is both an officer and a gentleman) by yielding only two dongs in 45 innings this season. Also notable is the well deserved night off that Blevvy and Reed got this evening, hopefully leaving them each daisy-fresh for Sunday's drama. Neil Walker played five innings today for Vegas, going 1-3. I guess it's possible he could be activated for tomorrow's game, but I'm betting on a Monday return. Also on the line in this game will be a chance to catch St. Louis into the standings, acquiring a delectable share of sixth place in the Wild Card standings.
  13. Four scoreless by the pen. Five and two thirds straight counting Blevins' magic last night.
  14. That's great. Against the closer, too. Just when I was starting to wonder if Céspedes wasn't already finishing his career with the A's. But anybody on this team can beat you.
  15. OK, 2-3-4 batters. Let's get Hansel a win.
  16. Missed that one, Blue!
  17. Seems to me that it should be relatively easy to steal third with the nearest defender 50 feet away.
  18. d'Arnaud and Duda say, "Rally-killing, my BUTT!"
  19. I guess the bunt would have been a decent play after all.
  20. Inducing tappers to the mound is, like, Edgin's secret weapon. Two innings trying to get one run back. Doable!

  22. I'm not as confident as Keef that Conforto got in there. Not at all.
  23. Man, Grandy was running like a fridge was on his back.
