  1. That's more like it.
  2. Ummm ... I was saying.
  3. deGrom on a breezy summer night. I think this'll be great.
  4. I agree that d'Arnaud isn't killing us.
  5. Consecutive posts in my Twitter feed. [tweet:18eprwz1] [/tweet:18eprwz1] [tweet:18eprwz1]https://twitter.com/MeredithFoster/status/893294915957907456[/tweet:18eprwz1]

  7. Recently promoted from Columbia to St. Lucie is Dominican righthander Adonis Uceta. Pitching on May 7 for Columbia, Adonis walked three and allowed four earned runs in an inning and 2/3. Since then, bupkis. All summer long, Adonis has set them up and knocked them down, allowing zero earned runs in 24 consecutive appearances, the last three of which have been with St. Lucie. And those weren't bogus one-batter appearances either. The period in question covers 32 innings, during which he's walked nine and struck out 38. In 43 innings total this season, he's allowed a .155 batting average, no homers, and put up a 1.18 ERA. Adonis Uceta. Learn that name.

  9. smg58 wrote: The radio said that Robles said he felt numbness in his fingers. So why did he keep pitching? I don't know, but I suspect if I was confronted with jurassic outlet syndrome or whatever the kids are calling it, I'd be in a helluva lot of denial.
  10. I am. Nothing sarcastic here. I like rooting for wins and celebrating them. It's great.
  11. That's a good one! Jay Bruce, on August 3, has already hit more homers in a season than all but 20 Mets. 12. Those both sound like some serious turnabout. I imagine Cabrera's recently demonstrated utility has been worth something to them. I'm not sure it's been worth 8.5 big ones. Only so many roster slots, Mets. I'm curious if they plan on making some consolidation trades.

This was his chance to put on a show for Moms and Pops like Conforto did in Seattle!! He had EXTRA MOTIVATION!! What's the use?!! Can I somehow post loud enough for Terry to hear me?!! I don't THINK I CAN!!

  16. Bruce has an eight-team no-trade clause, which includes the Rays, Twins and Yankees, a source recently told James Wagner of the New York Times. I love this big bastid.
  17. Much! Ten unanswered runs!
  18. Sure they had a better option. Play TJ Rivera, and spend that Walker money elsewhere, perhaps on a big fat reliever, one that laughs at puny Fernando Salas—HAH-HAH! Perhaps on another second baseman. Seventeen million smackeroonies!
  19. Methinks he intends to make a joke about how overmatched the Mets will be compared to the evening's star attractions.
  20. He seems sort of puppet-y — like his limbs are a little longer than he can control just yet. Like a not-yet-ready-for-the-medal-round figure skater.

Put the tragic and lonely (and far more meaningful) end of the tale fades. And that's part of why we need real journalists in this world.
  22. Check out a couple of golden pieces of baseball writing, as Ben Reiter at Sports Illustrated recalls the tragic tale of Hideki Irabu, and Dave McKenna at Deadspin recalls the tragedy that didn't happen, the teenager who fell out of the upper deck of Riverfront Stadium and somehow pulled an unlikely gymnastics grab to save his life.
  23. That's the way it should be.
  24. deGrom is looking even thinner, no? OE: And he shouldn't be batting.
