  1. I was your shortstop, and then I was your third baseman, and now I'm your secondbaseman. I may bitch, but if you keep paying me like a starting shortstop, I don't really care if I'm your third base camera operator. That's just how it is. I want my money. Good hands, but not much range. Good power. Plays through pain and stays modestly productive doing it. This is what you know about me from my past. I also like unhatting people. But what does that say about my future — my Venezualan, number-13-wearing, switch-hitting, soul-patch-sporting, sometimes-blonde-dying future? Dígame usted. 2. The 2003 Mets were the second time around for Jeromy Burnitz, Roger Cedeño, David Cone, and Tsuyoshi Shinjo. I'm having trouble finding more than four.
  3. Great story by Ron Darling about his first camp. Ron: "I was invited to camp by the Rangers as a 22 year old. I got a locker next to the great Buddy Bell, who at that time was one of the better players in the league." Keith: "GREAT guy." Ron: "Buddy walked over and talked to the clubhouse attendant and two seconds later, my locker was next to the washer and dryer."
  4. Guillorme hits one a mile to center off of Bud Norris. A legit major league pitcher that! Guillorme only has two regular season homers on his minor league record!
  5. Borenstein living up to Taijeron's fielding standard.
  6. P.J. Conlon on for the Mets wearing #80.
  7. Signed a minor league deal on January 26.
  8. Two-run hit by Wecki. He gets thrown out going for second but he was seff. The Cards' catcher is named Carson Kelly. I'm guessing his dad was a fan of Giants linebackers.
  9. And ... he gives up a three-run jobbie to his first batter.
  10. McGowan spit the bit in the third, and the Mets are down 3-1. Marcos Molina on for cause.
  11. Martinez out of the game after throwing everything into the dirt. Let's hope he's the Martinez we see on 3/27.
  12. On the one he dropped, he was fighting the sun all the way, lunged late, and seemingly made and off-balance basket catch. It looked to be in his pocket, but as he fell, it popped out. Those massive oak branches he calls arms sure aren't meant for cradling baby birds.
  13. Highlight reel pick by Sleepy Dom Smitty.
  14. Mets settle for one. Discussion about how Martinez showed up in camp last year with his hair dyed blue, and the brass had to take him aside and have a talk about maturity. And yet, when Scott Spezio dyed his Satanic soul patch red for the post-season, he was being colorful. #WhitePrivilege
  15. Bases loaded. d'Arnaud looks mean, tanned, and beefy.
  16. B. Nimmo opens with a base hit. I think the Mets want to get a bunch of guys in the top of the lineup who will see Martinez on opening day.

  18. PotG candidates: Zach Borenstein: 1-2 with the big two-run double to tie the game in the eighth. Luis Guillorme: 1-1 with an RBI walk Corey Oswalt: 2 innings pitched, 1 hit, 4 strikeouts, including the last three in a row, whiffing the side in the seventh. I'm voting for Oswalt. Yeah, those three Braves were named Xavier Avery, Alex Jackson, and Ray-Patrick Didder, but your job is to take care of the guys they send against you and he cut them down good, and then the Mets turned rallied in the eighth.
  19. Nope. Rhame finished just outside the money. [fimg=500:ub4eq3zk]http://image.nj.com/home/njo-media/width960/img/mets_main/photo/mets-2018-baseball-453c1a9ba9203313.jpg[/fimg:ub4eq3zk]
  20. Purke wins the WHO GOT MOST HIPSTER DURING THE OFF-SEASON AWARD. [fimg=500:f0gwdnmh]http://image.nj.com/home/njo-media/width960/img/mets_main/photo/mets-2018-baseball-2a2e194c46c4cdbf.jpg[/fimg:f0gwdnmh]
  21. [fimg=500:2rx4qc1c]https://i.ytimg.com/vi/dNjuGLGDmtw/maxresdefault.jpg[/fimg:2rx4qc1c] Biggest guns in Mets camp since Andres Gallarraga 2005?
  22. Cecchini: walks in a run. Guillorme: walks in a run. So much action! And Berenstain is back at the plate!
  23. And he gets the RBI walk! Atlanta calling Akeel Morris out of the bullpen! Braves are so desperate that they know the only way to stop the Mets is with more Mets!
  24. Bags juiced, two out, and Patrick Metzeika on to pinch-hit for Lóbaton.
  25. Thompson singles home Borenstein and the Mets are in the catbird seat!
