None of us got that TJS prediction in under the wire, though.

Longterm expectations! Good for you!

I'm, like, the most popular Met ever. I check my name on #MetsTwitter and you know what I see? TRENDING! I hear talk of trades and I'm still here. POPULAR Even in other teams' parks I cause a fuss. We played St. Louis and I heard everyone buzzing, "Is that Molina? WHERE'S Molina?" But am I starter or am I a reliever? And am I gonna stick, because I came up on the same day as Jacob deGrom, and he's got like 100 career wins and I'm still trying to figure it out. Will I figure it out in 2018? Because this sizzling popularity is only going to get me so far. A former top pitching prospect who got hurt, I put myself back in the mix last year. Yeah, my velocity isn't all the way back and possibly never will be, but I cleared the 100-inning plateau and had a respectable year doing it. When literally dozens of pitchers were coming up hurt between St. Lucie and Bingo, being a healthy guy was a relief. Now it's time to climb those last few steps. How much climbing will there be? Because, you know, the Mets could use someone like me. Starting, relieving, I dunno, but top prospects don't just throw up their hands and quit. What's next? Because this beard will not be kept down on the farm. Arizona Fall League crowds are sadder. T-N9bZ82Kkk

Do you have Cone or did you keep Ed Hearn and he's now slugging .650?

I'm Johnny Depp and I can out-Denzel Denzel. Murder on the Orient Express (2017) The Lone Ranger (2013) Alice in Wonderland (2010, plus the 2016 sequel) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) Sleepy Hollow (1999, not that this has ever been satisfactorily filmed, apart from Disney's 1949 cartoon)

I have Febbuk friend who is a theatre owner, and he took a shot of the stage from junket at Disney, where they were rolling out their films for the next 12 months, and out of 25 films, there was seemingly perhaps one original idea in there. Everything was remakes, sequels, spinoffs, and name-brand acquired properties. It's a world of toadies, and it's seemingly a lot easier to keep your job if you tell your bosses to drop $100 million on an established commodity than an original idea. But the problem — and it's the problem with the whole tired-assed world of post-modern culture — is that eventually they'll run out of the old ideas, the pieces of modernity to re-assemble. Pop will eat itself.

What did you do with Ojeda?

HIts his way to Vegas, where he hits even more. Doesn't break through to Flushing, but real hard choices loom for 2019.

Nothing Metly in 2018, but will see meaningful time in Las Vegas and will crush it there.

You lost me at Aramark.

Tim Burton?

And that minor advantage helped Ron to a 12-year career.

He's got the arm, but he's big for a catcher, and doesn't get around well. He's not playing himself out of the position (not yet anyhow), but is getting reps at first because it keeps his bat in the lineup. But it's also to prep him for a future in which he might well play himself out of the position. At 6'3" and weighing in the 220s, he'll have his work cut out for him to stay there. But he's hit at every level he's been at, and if that continues to translate as he climbs, and he finds even a little more power, he's a keeper. His walk tool is awesome. I'm not worried about his age as much as his position. Catchers debut late. College guys debut late. Stetson guys debut late. Just keep coming.

That's a helluva thought. Hitting like Tebow, pitching like Griffin, all in one!

The real interesting tidbit is the cutting of the last candidate for second bullpen lefty. Maybe the first week of the season, that job goes to Matzy anyhow.

This round of cuts likely brings down a curtain on any drama in the catcher, infield, and outfield situations. BIG congratulations go to Phillip Evans who was survived the indignity of removal from the roster and clearing waivers over the winter, only to be the last non-roster player in camp, with the apparent exception of Adonis Uceta, who is only nominally in camp, having reported with a hamstring strain and not having appeared in a game. Perhaps they can't farm him out until he's either established as healthy or has been placed on the disabled list. Tomás Nido outlast José Lobaton, but there's no real threat of him making the roster. More likely, they just want him to continue to get exposed to high-end pitching. They are both likely headed to Las Vegas where Lobaton will get the thankless role of mentoring. You know what history loves more than catchers who can hit? Catchers who can hit lefty. That's me. I'm Patrick Mazeika. That's right — Bill Dickey, Darrell Porter, Mackey Sasser, and me. I've been biding my time in the mid-minors: Kingsport, Columbia, St. Lucie, and Binghamton. Damned if I haven't hit everywhere I've gone, even if I've only played six games above high A. I get on base, too. I meann come on! I've hit .311 / .413 / .445 // .858 in a thousand minor league plate appearance. HOW is that not a prospect? Maybe 2018 will learn you a thing or two about me. Tell me what my 2018 will look like, and if one of you mentions Josh Thole, asses will be kicked. Holy smokes, a Francisco Peña sighting!

That pretty much finalizes the catching staff and guarantees that Flores Reyes is our fifth outfielder. Only thing up in the air is the back end of the bullpen.

I'm liking 1982's first round matchup!

Vargas looking like he'll not start the season, even if he gets his DL assignment backdated so he only gets, like, a week of disability. So that clears up the rotation question. Both Wheels and Matz look to start the season there, if only nominally. But the bullpen is another matter. Mets Roster Central is calling it for Rhamie. The Rhamework. He Who Rhames. Gsellman and Lugo have more experience, certainly, but it isn't yet clear if the Mets are willing to turn one of them into a bullpenner, especially as they still have (as of this writing, anyhow) Rafael Montero to play the role of long man/swing man/mopper upper. So, for now it's Incrediboy, who has stuck around this spring while throwing eight innings, striking out nine, with a 4.50 ERA, while his fellow 2017 debutante Jamie Callahan has been shipped to minor league camp and their classmate Kevin McGowan is lucky to still be in camp at all after being removed from the roster and passing through waivers unclaimed. Body language. I'm working on it. I get it. You win some, you lose some. But either way, you've to get back out there with the mound presence. I wish I could be like Bartolo, and when somebody homers off of me, just play catch with myself until the next batter. But I get so gosh darn upset when adversity strikes. I want to make my foxy grandpa dance more, and make my Contemporary Christian wife write inspiring songs about me. And I press. And the body language is ... well, I guess it's not re-assuring ... unless you're the next batter. Spring is for working on stuff, so I guess I'll work on that. Summer, fall ... that's the time for putting up numbers. Actually ... it's the time for not getting hurt and for putting up numbers. What numbers are you going to see next to my name? And will I get hurt? OH, GOD, not again! Big whoop. Ty Kelly was a Texas Israelite. That team will take all the ringers they can get their hands on. But I was Louisiana Puerto Rican, and that's no small thing, Amigo. That's a tough bench to get a seat on. You know why? Spin rate. I got spin rate coming out of my ears. I can't stop spinning the baseball. Everybody's talking about it. You turn on the news and it's Seth Lugo and his spin rate. Did you know that I use a full roll of toilet paper every time I poo? I just try to rip of a few sheets, but I give the roll a snap and it just keeps spinning. Spin rate. Everybody wants the guy with spin rate. It's the new thing. How long I can keep dining out on this, however, is anybody's guess. So I've gotta pitch better than last year. And you know what else is anybody's guess? How I'm gonna pitch in 2018. So come on. Guess.
