It would be great if both those images were cropped from the same source photo. They don't seem to be, but maybe came from the same reel.

Is Doug Flynn the weakest, least-productive player to ever grace the cover of a year book? Both FanGraphs (0.4 WAR) and Baseball-Reference (1.0 WAR) list his 1980 as his only positive-WAR season since leaving Cincinnati, so if ever he was to make the cover, 1981 would be the year. Which isn't to suggest that the guy wasn't a hero to me. He was!

The Braves have given up on trying to make a thirdbaseman out of José Bautista again, or even trying to make a ballplayer, as he has been cut loose. The Mets might be interested in auditioning him as an outfielder for a few weeks if the money is right, but he's likely donedy-done.

Did Gallo actually have a source photo of Rusty in long sleeves?

Two late launchers finally get started on their 2018 season, as Oliver Pascual, who had been on the Columbia roster on paper, gets activated and immediately promoted to Binghamton, and Wuilmer Becerra, who had technically (if only technically) been on the Las Vegas roster, gets activated and immediately shipped down to Columbia. I don't know if these guys were hurt or just judged by the Mets to be a pair of fellows who could benefit from an extra seven weeks of instruction. The latter scenario makes at least some sense, in Becerra's case, because his future career seems to be on the edge of a knife right now. Dude has to show at least some power. Among the guys still waiting to be launched are Tucker Tharpe and Kendall Coleman, the latter of whom came over from the Yankees in the L.J. Mazzilli deal. A tough 2-1 loss today to the Charleston RiverDogs wasted an outstanding effort by David Peterson. Petey went seven innings, giving up only 1 earned run (an unearned run scored partially as a result of a Rigoberto Terrazas error) on 5 hits, 0 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Look for Petey and his 1.91 ERA to get a mid-season promotion to St. Lucie. A perfect ninth for reliever Aaron Ford included two strikeouts and lowered his ERA to an even more impressive 1.59. The loss dropped the Flies to 3-3 on the week and five games off the pace, in third place in the South Atlantic League South Division. Seriously cooling off has been catcher Scott Manea, who is now 0-for-his-last-16. It's a testimony to how sizzling he was before this dip that he is still leading the circuit in on-base percentage by 17 points(!) at .440. Two other recent arrivals with the team include Yeizo Campos and Taylor Henry. They not only have four last names between them; they also have 10 innings pitched without letting a single enemy cross the plate, allowing but 5 hits and 1 walk against 8 strikeouts in their 10 innings. Shouldn't all this shite be in the IGT 5/21 Marlins @ Mets thread?

Led by Philadelphia and (a very busy) Pittsburgh, 2018 is so far the year the National League has taken the upper hand over the Junior Circuit in head-to-head play. Atlanta: 2-0 Arizona: 2-1 Chicago: 3-2 Cincinnati: 1-2 Colorado: 1-1 Los Angeles: 1-1 Miami: 1-3 Milwaukee: 5-2 New York: 1-1 Philadelphia: 4-0 Pittsburgh: 10-2 St. Louis: 3-3 San Diego: 0-0 San Francisco: 3-2 Washington: 0-0 Total: 37-20 .649

Uh-oh. "Piano Man."

Fuck and yes. Asdrubal = All-Star

Cool, scenes from the 1969 clubhouse!

Still looking to shore up the minors, the Mets sign a former Mariner/Brave/Athletic swingman out of the indies. How can they blow two pickoffs in two games? Stay on the base, Rosario.

Seems like we're damn close to getting to this guy. Nido almost went yard.

Good eye, Nimms. Don't listen to that chump.

Backup catchers tend to play in day games after night games.

Frayed Knot wrote: Centerfield wrote: Pitch to Murphy the first time, I get it. The second time, that mistake is on Callaway. Once the SB created the open base, it was already a 1-2 count to a backup catcher with 400 ML ABs spread over pieces of six seasons, a career 630 OPS during that time, and a .259 OBA for this season (prior to tonight). I didn't have a problem pitching to him. Especially seeing as how it was still just the 4th inning, I don't like to go adding baserunners to chase outs that early. I'm agreeing here. Throwing a 1-2 count in the trash didn't make sense to him. The failure was Matz's for giving him a nice popover to eat.

I don't think Sandy Alderson mocked Dominic Smith all winter.

Last night's lineup for Las Vegas: den Dekker, dh Asche, 3b Smith, rf Kivlehan, 1b, Borenstein, lf Monell, c Kelly, ss Colón, 2b Biondi, cf Smitty had a bad day at the dish, going 0-3 and stranding four runners, but he did have an outfield assist.

Funner fact: The game went downhill after Wilmer failed after being ahead 2-0. He gets the game-winning walkoff RBI after falling behind 0-2.

Had to bunt with the thirdbaseman back there. THANK YOU!

Nimmo does the salt-and-pepper thing before pointing to the heavens.

Descalso hit a good pitch there. I'm thanking the fog for holding that one up.
