Went 4-6 with a walk as a pinch-hitter.

The additions of Peter Alonso and Jeff McNeil — two of the top players in the Eastern League at the time of their launching — has correlated (I could hardly say "coincided" — with a nice run of five of their last six for The Las Vegas 51s. The slugging firstbaseman is ripping it to the tune of .300 / .417 / .633 // 1.050, with 11 RBI, seven of them in the three-homer game. The slashing infielder has more or less kept pace, with a .387 / .444 / .516 // .961. Those are the type of numbers that lead teams into win streaks, and it's working so far. Taking the mound today was hard-luck sad-sack Drew Gagnon. With the 51s holding off on their scoring in the 4-3 win, Drew got another no-decision, leaving him still winless in 2018, despite four straight quality starts. The bullpen is going to miss Drew Smith and Tim Peterson, as they've contributed all season to the Las Vegas cause. Look for lefties Ian Kroll and Buddy Baumann to get more work. Righty Jacob Rhame is also having his mettle tested in this hot streak, going scoreless in six of his last seven performances, covering 7 2/3 innings. The little run has been a long time coming for the 51s, and even after the hot week, still sit in fourth and last place in the Pacific Coast League Pacific South Division, ten games out of first and five and a half out of third. Apart from all the players they've given to the Mets to restock with, they still have nine of their own out with one owie or another. One day at a time, man. While many may have wished for a Vargas return to the DL, he could have made the difference today. He could have made the difference either way, come to think about it. Flexie's return positions him as the fifth starter. Between the day off, and Syndergaard's potential return, however, that opportunity may or may not come to pass. Get well, Nimmo. I remember in 1973 when Tug McGraw was stinking up the joint. The Mets gave him a couple of starts in late July. He got hit hard the first time out but gave up one run in 5 2/3 in his second start, and boldly proclaimed that he had his shit figured out. Stupid to make such a declaration, maybe, but he threw 54 2/3 innings the rest of the way with a 1.64 ERA It used to be a not particularly uncommon thing. Let a reliever who is stinking it up get a start or two, on the theory that in short stints, he can't make adjustments over the course of an appearance. I know that wasn't the intent here, and that this was an emergency start, but I like that he settled down after the disastrous start. Maybe he's turned a corner. Given 20 or 30 games, maybe this team gets things tightened up a little. Maybe.

Shit carries to left for the Mets, too, Dodgers.

Nimmo even smiles in pain with a potentially broken hand.

There we go. Hey, Blevvy's off the hook!

Nice job staying alive by Frazier, but the pitch he ultimately popped out on was a meatball.

Hey, look! Nimmo gets the benefit of the doubt!

Don't even have a righty to send up for Blevins. They do, of course, in Rosario.

Helluva throw by Puig, if fruitless.

Well, maybe this helps Blevins turn a corner. Doesn't help me, but maybe it helps him.

Uh, Nimmo totally leaned into that.

Well, the Blevins experiment is off to a less-than-auspicious start.

My word.

HIT. IT. TO. TURNER.

Worst José-José-José chant ever.

Flubbinnuggers.

SQUEEZE YOU WHIFF-ADDICT METS!!

I'm not sure how much I blame Bellinger for missing that drive, but him continuing to run into the gap while looking into the infield like somebody in there crossed him up was bush. Turn around and chase that ball.

Should've squeezed, Cabrera.

Oh, put Nimmo in center.

I don't know why the infield cutoff, historically the province of the firstbaseman exclusively, is now given to the thirdbaseman as well. Turner got the cutoff on that run-scoring single (YAY!), and nobody was covering third.

For Pete's sake, keep hitting it to Turner.
