Kewl. My favorite part of it was that he moved the (ultimately failing) pitcher to first. When a team is forced to put their pitcher at a defensive position, they've almost invariably sent him to a corner outfield spot, but pitchers field grounders and cover first regularly, so the mechanics of playing the cold corner are probably less foreign to them than the mechanics of left field.

While taking one off his elbow may indeed be a part of Nimmo's strategy, that crack to his hand seemed to be something he tried to avoid.

He only sorta wrestled. Occasionally, in grand events like The Showdown at Shea II, wrestling would try and express it's credibility by having a top wrestler take on a top boxer. Usually the "top" boxer was well known only because he was a willing punching bag for real top boxers to fight on their way up or as a warmup to a more high-profile matchup ... like Wepner. Willing to take a check for pain, he'd be the boxer set up as a patsy, as if it would be fair to send a rule-bound somebody with padded gloves into the ring against a free-styiing brawler. But they'd get the script. Wrestler chases boxer, boxer turns and lands a few, boxer chases wrestler, wrestler gets angry and tosses the daytripper out of the ring. Check cashed. Here's the whole card for The Showdown at Shea II: 1) Ivan Putski defeated Baron Mikel Scicluna Singles match 07:58 2) José Gonzáles and Kevin Sullivan fought to a time-limit draw Singles match 20:00 (Who the hell wants to see a draw in pro wrestling?) 3) Chief Jay Strongbow and Billy White Wolf © defeated The Executioners (#1 and #2) Two out of three falls tag team match for the WWWF World Tag Team Championship 4) André the Giant defeated Chuck Wepner by countout Boxer vs. wrestler match 01:17 of round 3 5) Bruno Sammartino © defeated Stan Hansen by countout Singles match for the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship 10:19 6) Antonio Inoki and Muhammad Ali fought to a draw Boxer vs. wrestler match; shown to the stadium crowd via closed-circuit television from Tokyo, Japan

In a boxer-wrestler matchup 42 years ago at Shea, Andre the Giant bounces Chuck Wepner from the ring, and then fucks with his foot for good measure.

Turds from Heaven.

Good two-strike hitting, Reyes.

Go, Pittsburgh Pen!!

Nothing but Flores.

Throw strikes, Bashie. They can't touch your shit.

Lugo just doesn't have a punchout pitch tonight.

I'm pretty sure I saw Colin Moran surrender at Vicksburg.

Apparently, the Mets bunt now?

And you said Maja was missing in action.

With any luck, we'll have the smilingest pinch-runner in the division.

A leftfielder in center, a firstbaseman in left, a catcher at first, and a shortstop at third. We so crazy.

There's more than one Craig Kimbrel comparison out there, and while that sort of thing should be taken with a lost shaker of salt, there are some prospect watchers who are certainly bullish on the guy. This bullpen carousel is kinda making me a madman.

We're three weeks into June, and if your name is Luis Guillorme, you might be hitting .182, and still called on by Mickey Callaway to pinch hit with the tying run on third and less than two out. And you didn't get the run home, so you would feel some shame. If your name is Luis Guillorme. Or perhaps your name is José Reyes. If it is, you have the ignominy of currently being on a "hot" streak, but still looking up at the scorebard to see a .170 batting average. And then, seeing as you are almost 100 plate appearances into your season, you have go on a royal tear just to get to Mendozaland. If your name is José Reyes. But perhaps it's not. Perhaps your name is ... I dunno ... still José, but your last name is Lóbaton. If it is, you might be a major league veteran, toiling in the minors, hoping to bet back to the bigs, where your average is .152. ONE-FIFTY-TWO! That's, if you are that José Lóbaton. Maybe if your name is Tomás Nido, you recall fondly the days sharing a job with José. Well, you shouldn't be sharing batting tips, because I'm looking at this hear website that says you're hitting .159. Hey, Nido, get back to the bigs and get off the interstate NOW!!!! If you are Tomás Nido. But perhaps you aren't a José at all. Or even a Tomás Perhaps your name is Phil Evans. I imagine you wouldn't be bragging if it is. Because you might be the Phil Evans who broke camp with the team, but so far has contributed naught but a 1-9 (.111) showing, with a lone single, no walks, and five strikeouts. Hey, Phil, north is THAT way. That is, if you are THE Phil Evans. Best wishes to all our interstate dwellers, but guys, it's getting late.

I'm having a tough time being positive about Nimmo's hand. I'm trying to get past it by finding a way to love Kevin Kaczmarski, but I'm not there yet.

Tyler Bashlor: career 1.000 batting average. That can't be under-emphasized in Mickey Callaway's "Get relievers as many at-bats as you can" regime.
