Pitches 2, 4, and 5 were all called strikes. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2019/05/screen-shot-2019-05-08-at-9.54.51-pm.png> Did Drake have a dinner reservation? -

Well, I don't think it would be for a whole lot of outs. Not the way the defense is positioned. Obviously, they failed to put the ball on the ground swinging away. And now they live in shame. -

Yeah, the idea that strikeouts are just another kind of out is kind fo absurd. Two squeeze bunts with the infielders back, and the Mets win. I don't want to oversell bunting, but damn, with the infielders stacked on one side and behind the infield arc, its just refusing a gift. In a game that's really hard. -

And the Papis go ahead on a homer, because when you go to the pen early, you end up using back-end relievers with the game on the line. -

Great trip to the plate by Nimmo knocking out the pitcher. Stupid Margot, when he drops those, needs to drop 'em on the other side of the wall. -

Strahm deserved that by squaring 15 seconds before each pitch, and then trying to stay loose by doing squats in the batter's box. Hey, it's nice to see Bobby Nystrom in the house this afternoon. -

As Tomás Nido turns a strikeout into a double-play with a pickoff, I think it's fair to say this has been his game. -

Always looking to learn from the opposing manager, Mickey pulls Font after four innings and 60 pitches. But you get the all-important DP from the pinch-hitter, so it's all good. -

The Padres bench coach is Rod "Throb" Barajas, whose presence in the home dugout also serves as a reminder to Met fans that no, Wilson Ramos is not the slowest first-string catcher in Mets history. -
It also contrasts with the 1986 cover in that it's daytime excitement.

And that's why I was grateful he went to the pen after only 4 1/3. You can build a pen of 5 relievers or 10 relievers, but the number of guys you are going to trust with the game on the line remains the same. Plus ... day game today!

Summer in the 'Hamton: The Binghamton Rumble Ponies in 2019
Edgy MD replied to Edgy MD's topic in New York Mets Talk
The dominant start we were hoping for from Noah Syndergaard out in San Diego last night, we actually did end up getting … from Anthony Kay ... in Pennsylvania. Sir K threw seven innings against the Harrisburg Senators, allowing only one run on four hits, with the lone blemish to his record coming on a solo homer by Drew Ward. The win was the seventh in the last 10 for the Bings, keeping exact pace in the Eastern League Eastern Division with the first-place Trenton Thunder, in second, a mere half game off the pace. After getting beat around in his last start in April, David Peterson pulled a 180 against Portland and gave The Ponies his best start of the season, going 5 2/3 innings against the Sea Dogs, striking out nine and yielding just one run. He did give up nine hits (and a single walk), but he's sure pointing in the right direction. Finishing tonight's game was Stephen Nogosek. And as usual, No-Go was taking his nickname seriously. Part of a miserly Bingo bullpen, Nogosek has given up no runs in his last five appearances, covering 9 1/3 innings, and now has lowered his ERA to 0.64 in 14 innings. The Nog is the last of the three pitchers the Mets got from Boston in the Addison Reed deal, and he … won't have to be great to exceed the contributions of Gerson Bautista and Jamie Callahan, but let's hope No-Doz eclipses them nine times over. Hey, you know what a .231 batting average is worth? It's worth more than a little if it comes with a .429 on-base percentage. That's right, three times every seven trips to the plate, Will Toffey is getting on base. That kind of table-setting has allowed him to lead the team in runs scored, and to build a solid .800 OPS, with room for improvement. He's also made only one error at third with his suh-WEET defense, and I'll frankly be gobsmacked if he isn't in Syracuse by mid-season. With first place within breathing distance, the Ponies get back to business tonight with another matchup against the 23-7 Senators. Undefeated Harol Gonzalez takes the hill against Tyler Mapes, which sounds like a name George Costanza made up. That Knight picture is poorly captioned. How could a homer in the seventh "win" the World Series, or even the game, for the Mets? One might just as easily say Jesse Orosco won the game by stopping the Sox rally in the top of the eighth, collecting an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, and then finishing off the save in the ninth.

I'd like to thank Andy Green for pulling his starting pitcher after 4 1/3 innings and 86 pitches. Apparently, after four games coming off the bench for the 2009 Mets, Greenie knows where his true loyalties lay.

Holy crap. The game ends on a hard grounder to Rosario's right that I was almost certain he'd fumble. Put it in the books. The holy books.
