1. Syracuse was the only Mets affiliate to lose this afternoon (besides the Mets, of course), but the big fella finally got his first AAA homer this afternoon, victimizing former MLBer Asher Wojciechowski. Pulled to right.
2. Vargy gave up one run on four hits in two innings today. He was pulled after four innings/74 pitches. 3. "All the way Bix Beiderbecke was on my knee."
4. Hard not to focus on Canó here. His increasing disengagement is disgraceful.
5. Holy smokes. The Mets have more GiDPs than hits.
6. Thanks for the help, Alcantara. Let's go Dominican.
7. There you go. Tangible tension.
8. Everybody say hello to my friend Curtis. 9. Maybe, but Ehalt's a five-year veteran of the Mets beat and he says he has sources confirming the lede.
10. https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2019/05/font.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=618&h=410&crop=1 > I've fulfilled my first goal — not getting released before getting my own thread here. but will I reach any others? If and when the team gets over me — which can't be too far off, since even if I did better (and I did worse), Matz is back and Vargy will follow soon — I'll pursue my second goal, which will be getting a shot in the bullpen or at least getting squeezed through waivers and going to Syracuse. Otherwise, I guess I might be joining the TWO STARTS AND SAYONARA CLUB, Scott Erickson presiding. There's Dennis Springer! And Tom Edens!! It's always fun when Jason Roach comes out and joins the party!! If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out, but it'll be interesting, in a trivia-sort of way, if I play my last game before the kid I was traded for even plays his first. Please. No more typeface jokes. I've heard them all. No, my wife isn't named Helvetica and my kids aren't goths. Font just means "fountain," as in "A fountain of characters pours out of this central typeface theme." So be cool. I'm trying here. Maybe my shit will fly in the bullpen. That's my story, anyhow. Plus, I'm the last Hey, Nineteen-guy, so join in and play. How do you think this will play out?
11. https://thesportsdailydigital.files.wordpress.com/2018/12/usatsi_11188729.jpg?w=1000&h=600&crop=1> Lefty relievers. Most teams need those things, right? I'm Daniel Zamora. And I'm a lefthanded reliever who has been up. But the manager can't find dick to do with me. I've gotten 4 1/3 mostly low-leverage innings, with half my ephemeral appearances coming in blowouts. Yeah, well, that's understandable. You've got to keep some marginal dude like me buried, right. I mean, I've ... holy shit! Did you know I've only given up one hit?! Folks are batting .071 against me! This is insane! Get me the ball!! Every day, some reliever comes and another goes, and all that might be interesting if I hadn't fallen into total disuse. Call child services and report the Mets. This is neglect. I've got to think, trend lines aside, though, that this situation will not sustain itself. I will break through. I will pitch in important moments. I will show my quality. I will not be frightened. I will be enlightened. And I intend to enlighten you as to my crazy-mad skillz. Yeah, I know. I went to Stony Brook and that rightly gives you pause. But an .071 batting average speaks for itself. That is, it speaks for itself if I calculated it right. I'm not sure. I went to Stony Brook. But I'm sure I deserve more PT than I'm getting, Seawolf or no Seawolf. How do you see my season shaking out?
12. Sure. If the Mets win 12-1, and he gets a stay, the sword will still be over his head. And the official management line will be, "We're always re-evaluating, but no, it's not true that he would've been fired if the team didn't win big yesterday." And the strong subtext would be "And it's not true that he wouldn't have been fired either. This would be dramatic. Mickey just this weekend passed Jeff Torborg in the Mets all-time games managed list, so if he goes, he wouldn't have the shortest non-interim tenure, but it would be damn close. Five more games and he passes Joe Frazier, and six more and he passes George Bamberger. And, as young as he is, he'd possibly have a longer post-tenure life than Jimmy Carter or Joe Torre.
13. Callaway safe ... https://www.yahoo.com/sports/sources-mets-manager-mickey-callaway-safe-through-the-weekend-015414187.htmlthrough the weekend.

15. If Chili's chair opens up, I'm putting my support behind Binghamton hitting coach Tony Jamarillo.
16. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Knowing the Mets they'll get Girardi. I'm not sure he'd be the worst idea they could have. If they're going to go red-ass-- and it sure does feel like that, doesn't it?-- then I'd much rather they opt for situational-red-asses like Girardi over light-a-votive-for-Billy-Martin-before-bedtime red-asses like Showalter. Let's not forget massive-chip-on-the-shoulder, free-swinging-advocating, gay-bashing, Castro-loving red-asses like Ozzie Guillen. Or motivation-via-fucking-shit-up-and-punching-some-poor-sap red-asses like Backman. My pick? Jeff Van Gundy, bitches.
17. Well, most coaches and managers have been fired multiple times along the way. It's the nature of the job. High turnover. You know who's never been fired? Mickey Callaway. I don't understand the prevailing philosophy — with the Mets or more broadly. A bunch of strikeouts interrupted on occasion by homers (too many of which come solo) is not only not a reliable offense, but it makes for boring baseball. The shift must be defeated. The shift must be defeated and the ball must be put in play. And as long as somebody takes that seriously, I don't care if the batting coach is Doug Flynn.
18. The Marlins. Sweeping. Not. Gonna. Happen.
19. So, if the team busts Mickey, the interim job is most likely going to Jim Riggleman. I don't think I want to wait around all season watching the Jim Riggleman Show, and I hope they would move forthwith to appoint a replacement in a week or so. Edgardo Alfonso? Clint Hurdle? Mike Scoscia? Who's next? David Wright would be an interesting idea, but the timing probably isn't ideal.
