Keith in the booth says, "That's what happens when you hustle down the line!" Gary said more-or-less the same.

J.D. Davis fielding Ed Coleman's first question used "you know" seven times in his answer. At least. For a Californian, he sounds kinda Canadian.

BOOOKZZZ!!!!

Walkoff in Chelsea??

Gotta like a Bear-claw/McNeil matchup with the winning run on second.

That's probably a 2020 goal for the organization. BUT I LIKE YOUR THINKING!

Weird game happenin'. Go-Go and Hech come up with averages that suggest they've forgotten they were ever major leaguers, but H got hisself a walk. Come on, Nats bullpen!!

Howie's back.

Anthony Kay was lifted after seven innings of sparkling no-hit ball, but the relievers didn't finish the job, and The Binghamton Rumble Ponies had to settle for a one-hit 3-0 shutout over The Bowie Baysox. (How does a team from Bowie not call themselves the Knives? Am I the only one awake here?). Despite a 5-5 record over their last 10, they retain a share of first place in The Eastern League Eastern Division with The Cretinous Trenton Thunder. If you're thinking, "Man, that Anthony Kay is starting to look like something," well, brother, you ain't alone. Yesterday's clinic of no-hitterliness not only was his second straight game in which he exited after seven shutout innings, he has gone 15 1/3 innings without giving up a run and has allowed only two runs in his last 38 innings. I did not mistype that. He's Mr. Run-Miser. You can't ask for much more. He's from the town (but not the State University) of Stony Brook. He throws lefthanded. He wears goofy sports goggles without being Tyler Clippard. He's got a 1.07 ERA through 50 2/3 innings. He's holding opponents to a .130 batting average. And if you're thinking of him for the Mets bullpen down the stretch — and I don't think there's any reason you shouldn't be — he's holding lefties to a .119 average. When mid-season prospect lists come out, pleased don't be surprised if AK-47 has passed Andres Gimenez as the organization's top prospect. That would be something, as MLB.com currently has him as the team's #7, but move up, he will. Maybe later in the year, you'll be searching for a reliever to help that's actually been relieving. Well, then, my friend, you'll be searching for Stephen Villines. Deceivin' Stephen has finished his season unscored-upon with Bingo and headed for the 'Cuse, so let's profile a different fireman, still with the team.. Joining the team late after some injury sadness has been Austin McGeorge, who has stepped into this rock-solid bullpen and made it his home. Throwing 10 innings so far, has put up a 1.80 ERA, holding villains to a .194 average, so they hardly miss Villines at all. And that's good, because villains are ALL AROUND YOU. But when you're in first place, there are a lot of heroes around you also. Here in Binghamton, few are more heroic than catching prospect Patrick Mazeika. Hat-Trick Patrick leads the team with five homers, while generating a solid over-all line of .266 / .338 / .469 // .807. Mazeika, currently listed with MLB.com (and what do they know?) as the team's #26 prospect, will also be moving up soon. If the batting numbers don't give him the helium he deserves, consider also that he's thrown out 9 of 20 would be base-stealers. "Patrick" comes from the Latin "Patricius" meaning "fatherly type," which is appropriate, because the Eastern League's baserunners call him "Daddy." First place won't defend itself, and that's why you've got to cheer on the Rumble Ponies tonight when they take on Bowie in Bowie once more. (Why aren't I there. Fellow southpaw prospect David "Don't Call Me Tim" Peterson takes the mound for the Carousel Horses. Bob Gibson hit .273 / .385 / .364 // .748 in 14 plate appearances as a pinch-hitter. He scored 14 runs as a pinch-runner.

No, that's a large part of it. It was also considered that he had generational issues and pushed against the current prevailing philosophy, which I'm OK with. https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/10/16/former-giant-as-hitting-coach-chili-davis-unemployed-heres-who-he-blames/Here's a story about his dismissal, within him being frustrated but not pointing fingers on his way out the door. For me, I loved Chili Davis' work with the April Mets, but I'm disappointed with his work with the May Mets. That's not unfair, is it?

I don't know. It's hard for me to turn against "GOREN 3: DOUBLE MORE OFTEN."

Bench goes to McEwing, who would come over from Chicago, because that wouldn't be a deterrent Delgado is my batting coach, having only mild success at encouraging batters to keep a journal of their plate appearances. But McNeil is a convert, and he and his journal hit .397 together. Moisés is Delgado's assistant. Mostly stays in the clubhouse, drinks water, and pees all over the rookies' hands. Dickey is the pitching coach. He would be the second knuckleballer to hold the role for the Mets Bullpen is Brian Schneider, also coaching catchers. He'll slmost never be noticed, but his wine will increase in value on the auctioneer's block, but still won't reach it's original retail price. First Base: Is Eric Young, Jr. retired? Third Base: Cliffy. Still limping. But aces at working umpires. Quality Control: Angel Pagan? If Young is still active, give first base to Pagán and invite Mike Cameron in for quality control. First lesson: Don't smash heads with your cleanup hitter.

Ike Davis is an interesting choice. "Hey, Ike. I'm sorry I smashed into you and neither of our careers were ever the same. Want a job?"

https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2019/05/yoenis-cespedes-mets.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=618&h=410&crop=1> Well, I think that report said "multiple fractures," partner. And what with me recovering already from double-heel surgery, and needing to not just get on my feet, but getting ready to put the burdens of an MLB outfielder them same feet, you can see where it can be a might disconcertin'.

Augie Donatelli mucks up the call and is immediately surrounded by half the Mets dugout, Baseball Hall-of-Famers and Mets Hall-of-Famers everywhere. Willie Mays had the better angle. When they tell you that Willie Mays did everything right on the baseball field, they weren't kidding.

No fair, no fair.

I want Delgado for my batting coach. McEwing is currently the bench coach for the White Sox, so I think third base is a demotion. I celebrate his inclusion but he might have be the bench guy. Bobby V. and Edgardo, also excellent choices, wouldn't work with in the parameters either.

Because it's an exercise, and isn't really happening.

Brodie asks Wright for 21st century Mets, and Wright gives him Al Jackson. I'm starting to think that the failure to thrive so far in 2019 isn't necessarily Brodie's fault.

https://www.syracuse.com/resizer/SfpfaigRZZA3wMJ37lm1zhlGBpw=/1400x0/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-advancelocal.s3.amazonaws.com/public/POHY4KKTVZGDTEVNFTJKOC4HRA.jpeg> The first AAA homer for celebrity outfielder Tim Tebow earned him the initial silent treatment in the dougout, but even after his teammates broke character and mobbed him, it was hardly enough to stand in the way of an 8-2 thrashing at the hands of The Columbus Clippers. The score was somewhat fitting though, perhaps as payback in kind for The Syracuse Mets buzzsawing of their rivals the day before. The split put the Mets at 6-4 over their last 10 games, and while that may not float your zeppelin, it was the only winning record over that time in The International League North Division, and it leaves the AAA Mets currently 1.5 games in first place. HUZZAH! Hey, do you like when your second baseman isn't hustling? No, you probably don't. It probably burns you a little to see him wave good-bye at a grounder through the hole, rather than extend himself. Or you might be aggrieved to see him barely motivated to run the baselines as he hits into potential double plays against the last-place Miami Marlins. And then those potential double plays are easily convertible into double-plays? Yeah, I hate that. Well, there's a hustling second baseman playing for the Upstate Mets, and his name is Dilson. Dilson Herrera. The prodigal son returned, Dilli Vanilli is stilli only 25. A career could still happen. And currently that potential career looks that much more possible as he has ripped to the tune of .333 / .371 / .788 // 1.159 over his last 10 games, hitting four homers in that span, despite his undersized frame. Killer Diller's listed at 5'10” an 210, but I have my doubts. Hechor Santiago. There's a new New York Met. How'd he get there? By spanking International League hitters like a runaway dominatrix, that's how. A nice little string of one- and two-run starts has lowered his ERA to 3.35. Opposing hitters are hitting .204 against him, and despite being a portsider, he's been more effective against righties. If you remember him from Spring Training, you may remember a lot of walks. Yeah, that's still happening, so you may get results, but you may want to keep him on a short leash too. Fun fact: Hector is yet another cross-dominant pitcher, making for five on the Mets pitching staff. In fact, as a lefty-thrower, righty-hitter, he's the rarest of birds. If you count the number of big league hitters who've succeeded with that profile, you may not have to pull your second hand out of your pocket (Rickey Henderson, Cleon Jones, um, er), but now we've got two on the Mets' pitching staff. Emerging as the ace of the bullpen has been sometimes-New York Met Tim Peterson. Timoteo has been doing it with control, striking out 16 in his 17 2/3 innings, but walking only two. In fact, he has yielded more homers (3) than walks. Peterbilt is currently on a sweet little string of nine consecutive innings, covering 5+ outings, without allowing an opposition runner to cross the plate. That's gitten' it done. And getting it done is pretty much a solid description for what this whole squad has been doing in their first year of Met affiliation. The first-place action continues tonight as the Lehigh Vally IronPigs host the Syracusians who are bringing the always-dangerous TBD on the mound. As the roster is currently two player short, look for a couple of reinforcements — including possibly tonight's starting pitcher — to come cruising up Interstate 81 from Binghamton.
