My Interpretation -- Sandy to Wilpons: Go Fuck Yourselves!

One is the truth. One isn't. It's not that elusive a concept. I don't expect anything will change your narrative. -
Summer in the 'Hamton: The Binghamton Rumble Ponies in 2019
Edgy MD replied to Edgy MD's topic in New York Mets Talk
The turbulence down the system from the bottleneck of Mets hitting the iL has had less affect on Binghamton's play than other affiliates. While they have fallen a half game out of first from last week's tie, they have still won seven of their last 10, including last night's exciting 2-1 victory at Richmond, featuring seven innings from Harol Gonzalez in which he only allowed one unearned run, thanks to a boot by rightfielder Kevin Kaczmarski. How was Harol's game like his first name? He didn't get any D!! HAR!! After getting his knuckleballing ass handed to him and then some with Syracuse, Mickey Jannis has picked up where he left off, throwing two more shutout starts, covering 12 1/3 innings between them. All totaled, that's three AA starts for Jannis-Got-a-Gun, and no fucking runs allowed. Yeah, he's walking a bunch — in his last start, he allowed only one hit, but walked five — but shutout ball is shutout ball. Sooner or later this season, he'll be called on get another crack at AAA, and he's going to have to figure things out there, because he's tested out of AA. Maybe he needs to bring his Binghamton catcher with him. You know who puts the HAM in Binghamton? That would be Matt Blackham. The 29th-round pick from 2014 out of Middle Tennessee State (GO, BLUE RAIDERS!!) should, by all rights, be teaching gym by now. But instead, he's providing some solid bedrock in the bullpen. From the 2014 29th round, only a few players are still active in affiliated ball, but our man Blackham, he's more than active — he's flourishing. He's not allowed a run in his last five appearances, covering 7 1/3 innings, lowering his ERA to a thrilling 2.00 on the season. That's cool, but it's also pretty much Matt being Matt, as his career ERA is now 2.27 five seasons in. The Mets may have to protect his 29th-round ass this off-season. Was somebody talking about asses? I think somebody was. Well, take a gander at the sweet ass of Barrett Barnes. The minor league vet is Binghamton's OPS leader this season, clocking in at .307 / .436 / .547 // .983. Look at that ISOP. That'll play! And I'm sure Barrett'll play in Syracuse before long. But first things first. And the first thing for the Rumble Ponies is taking care of business and getting back into first place. Tonight that means the Ponies got to war with David Peterson. The Portside Thor has had a great May, throwing 20 2/3 innings over four starts, while yielding only three runs. He's a tick behind Anthony Kay, but he's catching up fast. The Boys from Syracuse: The Syracuse Mets in 2019
Edgy MD replied to Edgy MD's topic in New York Mets Talk
Interestingly, bad blood is going down between the Mets' and the Yankees' AAA affiliates. Here Arquimedes Caminero gets tossed for drilling Breyvic Valera, apparently in response to the previous batter Mike Ford seemingly taunting one or two of the infielders on his way around the bases following his homerun. Things get a little hairy there after a while. Looks like Danny Espinosa led the charge. Tim Tebow apparently tried to play peacemaker, but as you can tell from the activity in the scrum, he was kind of batting .156 in that endeavor also. Please forgive the minor league camerawork. Interestingly, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre manager Jay Bell says as much in defense of Caminero as he does in defense of his own player. https://www.syracuse.com/mets/2019/05/syracuse-mets-swb-almost-go-round-2-in-monday-contest-videos.htmlOr more! Tony!Toni!Toné! Defrancesco, the Syracuse manager, suggested that he didn't think it was intentional, which kind of strains credulity. Nonetheless, Caminero clearly realizes that hitting Valera because of Ford's infraction was stupid. So in a more staid Round Two, he went after Ford instead. Oscar-quality stuff, guys. -
For the first time in about two weeks, things are relatively quiet on the transaction front. But if you're interested in doing a little transacting of your own, consider the case of Luis Vasquez. Luis, just 45 innings into his professional career, was hit by cancer in his leg in his first offseason. While he spent 2018 mostly in New York recovering from treatments and surgeries, he's now back in the Dominican. Having planned on using baseball to help lift his family out of poverty, the circumstances of the illness has driven his family deeper into it. Now, having had both his knee and tibia replaced, and unlikely to play baseball again, Luis is trying to continue his recovery in an unsuitable home, unable to help his mother much with the breadwinning. So former Mets play development employee Jennifer Wolf has passed the digital hat, setting up a https://www.gofundme.com/help-vasquez-and-his-family-get-a-new-homeGoFundMe account to assist. To make a tax-deductible contribution, you can donate at https://www.morethanbaseball.org/this link, clicking “give” at the top of the page, and noting that you are supporting Vasquez by checking “I'd like to make this contribution in honor or in memory of someone” and typing his name. By the way, in response to the original question, I'm going to go with 1992. Ken Griffey and Barry Bonds were the defining players of the 1990s, and they ushered in an era of multi-talented big league offspring that pretty much grew up in big league clubhouses. That said, as the league grows, the number off opportunities for second generation players grows, so the number is probably tending to increase, even since the 1990s. Also, they now tend to come from wealthy backgrounds, so they can afford to kick around the minors longer, waiting for their chance.
-
Indeed he is. Three generations of big league pitchers. Casey, unfortunately, has followed a strong April with a shit May, and if he works his way back to the big leagues, it may have to be out of the bullpen, having been tagged for seven runs in one inning in his last start.

And bring back intentional walks. They're good for the soul!

John Richard 'Ducky' Schofield is the father of (brief NYM) Richard Craig 'Dick' Schofield who is the uncle of Jayson Werth who in turn is the step-son of Dennis Werth Dennis Werth played briefly for the Yanx in the early '80s although I have ZERO memory of him. I assume this means that Werth was the son of of Dick's sister. Not sure who his biological father was but I always got a kick out of the fact that Ducky & Dick were listed at 5'9"/163, and 5'10"/175 (and people wonder why HRs are up these days!!) while sis's kid topped out at 6'5"/235 ... and that doesn't even include the hair. The Schofield-Werth clan is correct. Werth had a little more help in his gene pool than the DNA provided by Dicky and Ducky. Not only was his mother a Schofield, she was also a champion long jumper and sprinter in the NCAA, having reached as far as the Olympic trials. His father was Jeff Gowan, who led all NCAA receivers in receptions while playing for Illinois State. He also played baseball there, as well as putting in a year of minor league ball with for the Cardinals in 1978. Also, Werth's great-grandfather played minor-league ball from 1924-1938. Our last three-generation family is the only family ever to provide three generations of MLB pitchers, one of whom is a minor league Met as we speak.

https://secure.milb.com/assets/images/0/7/4/307520074/cuts/1280x720/cut.JPG> To go with the Mets' grand slam-fueled 7-3 victory over the Dodgers last night, the AAA Mets of Syracuse pulled out the heavy artillery in Buffalo last night, pounding the disloyal Bisons with a PCL-like score of 16-2. Four separate Mets went yard and everybody in starting lineup not named Tebow had at least one hit. The big star on the evening was Arismendy Alcantara — recently called up from Binghamton — who was on base all night, going 3-3 with a homerun and two walks. Did somebody say Binghamton? An unearned run being the only mark against Harol Gonzalez in seven innings yesterday evening, and Bingo found themselves down 1-0 to Richmond going to the ninth. But a two-out RBI single by Jason Krizan plated the tying run and Andres Gimenez got the game winner in the 10th, singling home the stupid automatic baserunner. A four-run first may have made it feel like things would be automatic for St. Lucie in their matchup against the Jupiter Hammerheads, but by the fifth, the Jupiterians had tied it at four. A two-run homer by Carlos Cortéz in the bottom of the inning, however, put the good guys on top to stay in their 8-5 victory. Finally we visit the South Atlantic League, where Columbia is still trying to firefly their way out of last place. It's a long climb, but on this night, they were the better team, as José Butto threw six shutout innings to finally tally his first win against six losses, leading the 'Flies to a 7-4 victory, as outfielder Wagner Lagrange's grand slam (above) provided the difference. (Wagner's goal is to become baseball's greatest-ever player named for a ZZ Top song. Wartime St. Louis Brown thirdbaseman Tommy Tush has held that title for 70 years.) It may not be the first time this has happened all season, but it's the first organizational sweep I've spotted. Five Metropolitan-affiliated squads took the field, and all five won, an occurrence that will only happen 3.125% of the time when all five teams are in action, but happened 100% of the time last night. High-fives all around.

It's hard to spread three generations over two guys. One of the three-generation families remaining does not link all three in a direct line. Player One is the father of Player Two. Player Three is the grandson of Player One and the nephew of Player Two. To broaden the mix a little, Player Three is also the stepson of a major leaguer.

Three guys over two generations. All played for the Mets, though.
-
The Alou bloodlines so far go more broad than deep — two generations. Jesús, Felipe, and Matty in the first generation. The second generation includes Moisés, and current Mets coach Luis Rojas, Moisés brother, who didn't play in the bigs, as well as Mel Rojas, Moy's cousin.
-
Scott Hairston actually got two years with the Mets. Bret Boone was a Spring Training Met in 2006 before hanging them up. Bret's son, Jake, was drafted in 2017 by the Nats, but decided to play for Princeton instead. So, with the Bells, that's three. Of the two families remaining, one features a one-year Met from a pretty depressing year. The other features a player currently in the Mets' system.
-
I think Hebner got autocorrected.

Fun Father/Son Fact: There have been five three-generation MLB families. All five have had a Met connection, in that, at least one member of the three generations was under contract with the Mets, if not necessarily appearing in a regular season game for the big team. Fun Father/Son Kwiz: Name these five families and which member of the families provided the Mets connection.

http://dailyorange.com/resize/800/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/08224751/Flexen.jpg> Yeah, he got raked last time out. Six runs in three mop-up innings. Good luck, Seannie. A vet of 380 games with Pittsburgh, Washington, and Los Angeles. When a parent club has the injuries and instability in the roster the way the Mets have had the last few weeks, it echoes, and usually amplifies down through the system. The best players are called up on a moments notice. Other guys have to sit out for several days because they are DFA'd. infielders are asked to play the outfield for a few days, and relievers make emergency starts. Even guys that the organization has brought in may not be able to play until they've worked out for a few days. And even then the rust might still not be off. That was going to be my lede no matter how the Syracusans had fared of late. And they've fared poorly, winning only two of their last 10 games, and dropping from 2 1/2 games up in first place to 2 1/2 games behind. First place! Fumbled away! But hey! That includes yesterday's Memorial Day 9-5 hammering of the Yankee-affiliated Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Even when you go 2-8, somebody's usually flying the flag with some pride, if only somebody. Well, yeah, that somebody is named Chris Flexen. While the world was falling apart around him, the newly buffed out Flexie has stood strong. With a 5.25 ERA on April 15, The FlexMaster has been burning his jets for a month and a half. With a 3.04 ERA in 23 2/3 innings in that time, BoFlex has amassed (count 'em) 35 strikeouts and only nine walks in that period. I've been clamorin' and hammerin' for Drew Gagnon to get a start the next time one opens up in the big leagues, but Captain Flexible surely has pitched himself into the picture. in the big relief pitcher shuffle, none other than Stephen Nogosek has gotten his first trip to Syracuse. Following a blink-and-you'll-miss-it ERA of 0.95 in his first 19 innings for Binghamton, Nogo has headed on up the highway and just right-on continued that show in Syracuse, giving up no runs in his first four innings, and only allowing one hit. The last remaining piece of the Addison Reed deal, he has a good chance to pitching in New York by the end of the summer. He went to Oregon and Michael Conforto to Oregon State, so hopefully Scooter isn't keeping him down. One person who can't be kept down is René Rivera. The veteran former-big league backstop, who might not even have a job if not for the principles of Devin Mesoraco, has been a forest fire of productivity his last 10 appearances, going .389 / .452 / .667 // 1.119 over that period. That span includes a 4-4 game with two homers. Most likely the team's first catcher up in an emergency, the once-and-future Met has caught 14 of 24 would-be basestealers. That's a meal with awesome sauce. But even a layer of awesome sauce doesn't make a shit sandwich go down all that well. So the Mets try to cook up something a little more savory tonight in Buffalo. The starter is listed as TBD, but look for Flexie back on the mound and not backing down. 1) He was a firstbaseman with limited power. 2) It was like, Gospel, for ballot stuffing boys everywhere to believe in the American American-ness of Steve Garvey. American in a way that Al Oliver and Tony Perez and Bill Buckner and Keith Hernandez and Richie [CROSSOUT]Hepburn[/CROSSOUT] Hebner and Mike Ivie could never be. So, if Garvey got the automatic vote that he was due from every right-thinking, flag-waving, barbecue-grilling American, and the sentimental old-guy selections went to Willie McCovey and/or Willie Stargell, there weren't going to be a lot of All-Star appearances left to dole out among National League firstbasemen during Buckner's best years. The only way Garvey's lock on the starting first base slot in the All-Star Game was broken was by Pete Rose moving over there — with appreciation of pre-Dowd Report Pete also being a near-requirement of citizenship, despite being perhaps the weakest starting firstbaseman in the league. His pursuit of the hit record and his being held up as the model of American grit and hustle outshone even the gleaming smile of rugged Park Ranger Steve Garvey.
