A collection of toys, now in the possession of a younger child and taking an RV trip, go on an adventure to reunite with one of their lost companions. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/iDIAAOSwMRJckPyg/s-l640.jpg>

Oh, I wrote a spritely review of the recent play of St. Lucie. I submitted it, went to eat my din-din and now it's GONE! GONE!

They're falling fast these days.

In between attempts to burn down their own facility, The St. Lucie Mets have been trying to capitalize on their strong start in the Florida State League's second half. While that has meant a soggy four wins in their last 10 contests, the team has won it's last two outings in a row, boosting them to 7-11, two and a half games out in The Florida State League South Division. Richard Pryor was right: Fire is inspirational. Also inspirational has been Kevin Smith. The starter has taken his turn in the rotation 15 times now and returned a 3.39 ERA. His last two starts have been particularly effective, allowing only two runs total over 11 2/3 innings, striking out 15 while walking only two. After killing it in relief for Brooklyn last year the 2018 seventh-round pick out of Georgia is starting to look like somebody worth noticing. Smith is a native Georgian, but while you're scouting down south, it's hard to find a more southern name than New Orleans' Andrew Longstreet Mitchell, but The General is more than just a name evocative of dead, corrupt aristocracy. It's the name of a future Major League reliever. (Or, you know, whatever it is you call a Mets reliever. HAH!). ALM has pitched shutout ball in nine of his last 10 appearances, a span covering 15 1/3 innings, in which he has fanned 23 and walked but 4, while compiling a 1.17 ERA over those appearances. That makes him the hottest reliever on the team not named Darwin Ramos, and it's kinda close. But Darwin has been red-hot since being promoted from Columbia, while Give-My-Regards-to-Longstreet started slowly and keeps getting better. Do you like it hot? Hell, I know I do. And that's why I like a young catcher by the name of Mitch Ghelfi. The Mitchblade had been a defensive specialist so far this year, catching 16 of 31 would-be stealers of base, and I assume calling games and framing pitches in a manner that can bring a tear to an old man's eye. But lately? Well, lately, I'm-a-Mitch-I'm-a-Mitch-'Cuz-the-Mitch-Is-Back has been swinging the bat in a manner that makes something primal build up in your amygdala. The old part of your brain. The part that ain't for reading and reflecting, if you know what I mean. Over his last 10 games, If-I-Were-a-Mitch-Man has gone .353 / .410 / .529 // .939, while knocking in eight runs. That's the kind of performance that has earned him the nickname "Wealfi Ghelfi." I mean, he HAS earned it, but nobody actually calls him that. Thank God. Hey, do you like sweaty young men, great baseball, a new pitching coach, and a legitimate chance of a conflagration beyond the outfield fence? Then come on down to First Data Field, where the Mets are hosing the Daytona Tortugas. We're already in the third, but it's scoreless and there's still plenty of good seats available. The ninth inning. WHOAH!!!

Also, a nice little pack of Rumble Ponies are Eastern League East Division All-Stars, scheduled for next week in the charming town of Richmond: Harol Gonzalez, sp: 3-3, 3.33 ERA, 68 SO and 19 BB in 73.0 innings (I'm a Harol supporter, but this spot would have gone to Anthony Kay, if they allowed since-promoted players to come back and represent the team they've been starring for most of the season.) Adonis Uceta, rp: 3-3, 2 saves, 1.91 ERA, 36 SO and 12 walks in 37 2/3 innings. (His name certainly screams "All-Star!" and he's played well, but this spot too, was probably reserved for Stephen Villines, before he got called up. Fun fact: There will be TWO Adonises representing the East Division next week.) Patrick Mazeika, c: .250 / .320 / .425 //.745 in 252 PA, with 9 HR and 45 RBI. (The Mazeika Runner has split time between catcher and first, but with the modestly good line above and catching 17 of 33 would-be basestealers may make him the team's MVP. So far, at least.) Sam Haggerty, 2b: .288 / .415 / .417 // .832 in 171 PA, with 1 HR, 8 RBI, 14-of-17 SB. (Haggerty has been an on-base pirate, when healthy, but he's appeared in only 39 games. He's currently on the IL, so his participation may be compromised.) Braxton Lee, cf: .273 / .354 / .352 // .707 in 261 PA, with 1 HR, 24 RBI, 5-of-9 SB. (Well, the 2018 Miami Marlin coffee-cupper is another beneficiary of a name that says 'All-Star'!"

It's a perfect storm, when your team has three wonderful all-stars having wonderful all-star seasons, and you have a game where all three are contributors, but the rest of the roster is performing like such dead weight, that they can't carry them across the line. I think I mixed three or four analogies and metaphors there. Fuck.

=kcmets post_id=15195 time=1562382454 user_id=53]Loser talk? Most certainly.

Worst Constatine's Bridge Day EVER. I think I'm, like, 0-3 in IGTs this year.

AVILAN FOR CLOSER!

That David Letterman-lookin' guy is looking half dead behind home plate.

It would be a good time to get J.D. Davis some work on the mound, but he's already been burned.

It's a volatile marketplace.

Chance for Familia to win at least part of his old job back.

I'm certainly for the decision to challenge only being made on the field in real time. Also, you get the second challenge only if you bet your neck, and accept that you get a red card if the play isn't overturned. SKIN IN THE GAME!

Mickey, not only did you huh-waste your challenge, you've got to sell the idea of a crew chief challenge or get tossed trying.

KAPOWIE!

I've been waiting my whole life to meet Felix Millan.

I really like the Constantine's Bridge-themed hats the Mets are wearing.

Heck of a reality check. On the other hand, considering the time Lowrie, Frazier, Canó, and McNeil have spent on on the Injured List — often two or three at the same time — without his name getting called, reality has probably punched him in the nose more than a few times this season.

https://doublegsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/985f0665-53ea-4eaf-b428-a53628ef8479-Peterson3.jpg> Folding the tent with a 3-7 record down the first-half stretch, The Binghamton Mets closed the semester finishing 2 1/2 games back, at 35-29 in The Eastern League Eastern Division. You've got to seize the opportunities, before you, though, as they may not arrive again — a fate that can be exemplified in their 6-12 record to open the second half. Maybe the first half was your shot, guys. Which doesn't mean all bad. Ask top-shelf prospect David Peterson. The lefthander of Syndergaardian stature has come on strong in late June with a 3.60 ERA over his last four starts. If that doesn't get you hot, consider that (a) it's the same ball MLBers are throwing, and ( he's struck out 26 guys in 25 innings over that period, and walked only four. His ERA may be sitting at 4.37, but he's definitely trending in the right direction, and is likely to see AAA before the year is out. If strikeout:walk ratio is really what gets you dressed up at night, though, take a long look at Blake Taylor. Blay-Tay has only been up from St. Lucie since June 11, but word has gotten around The Eastern League. He has 11 innings over six appearances in that time, and has already struck out 17. SEVENTEEN! That's, like, almost 14 per nine innings. So you think he must have a lightning spear of an arm but no idea where the ball is going, right? That's wrong. You are so presumptuous, and frankly, stupid. Those 17 K's have come against only two walks. That's 8.5 strikeouts per walk and a 1.64 ERA. Somebody has figured something out. Do you want to figure something out? See if you can figure out what it's gonna take for Patrick Mazeika to mazeikan impact on the prospect lists. The 25-year-old catcher out of deGrom University (sorry, Stetson). His 26 extra-base hits are tied for 14th in the league, plus he's caught 48.5% of would-be base-stealers, while playing first base half the time. Awesome. But it's going to take more than that to turn around the crappy second half start for Kevin Boles' squad. It's going to take you. Support your local Rumble Pony — whoever that might be. And that's a real caveat, because two of the Ponies' starters hit the DL after their last turn in the rotation. When tonight's starter got announced as TBD, they serious.
