  1. In addition to all the gifts Pete Alonso has offered this season, he may give the Mets their fourth-ever home run title, following Dave Kingman (1982), Darryl Strawberry (1988), and Howard Johnson (1991). He not only leads, but his team has more games to play than most, projecting him further than the rest. Let that not be Alonso's fate. He has also moved up to 44th on the Mets all-time homer list, despite playing less than a season. He just passed Hubie Brooks and sits a single homer behind John Stearns. Longtime Mets, those guys.
  2. Despite seeing something like 40% of the playing time the regulars have seen this year, Brandon Nimmo is now sixth on the team in walks, having already passed two teammates since his activation from the IL. Moreover, it's not unthinkable that with regular PT, he could climb as high as third by the time the season ends.
  3. Maybe I'm just over-correcting for last night's brain-breaking ninth inning, but I'm seeing as to where the Mets have a day off tomorrow followed by a Matz-Eflin matchup on Freeday, how about trying to bolster the bullpen by shortening the rotation to accommodate this day off and their last one on the 19th? Matz has appeared twice out of the pen this year, and if they bump him to the pen, Stroman (and everybody else) would be on normal rest for the next turn, with a somewhat more accomplished option in the pen. I hate to get all Gene Mauch, but I'm kind of advocating getting a little bit Gene Mauch. More meaningfully, I'm averse to ever seeing a ninth inning ever go that way ever again ever.
  4. Something like. Anyhow, if they weren't all that tight, maybe I was just projecting, like, a lot.
  5. Man, how tight did they look in the ninth? Wilson fielded the comebacker cleanly for the first out, but hooked his throw to first pulling Alonso into the baseline. Had the runner been fleet and busting it, it might have been an ugly situation. Davis' basket catch for out two looked like he was trying to catch an egg with a glove that wasn't broken in. Rosario fielded the ball cleanly, then stepped on the bag and threw to first, indicating either (a) he didn't know how many outs there were, or ( more likely, just wanted to add an extra out to be safe in case somehow the runner heading to second was called safe, even though he had the guy by a mile. Or perhaps © he knew how many outs there were, but didn't quite fully trust himself.
  6. Nice to finally update Alonso's march after a win. It's cool to see him tie Fred Lynn 1975 in RBI, as that year Fred became the first rookie to win the MVP, a feat since equaled only by Ichiro Suzuki. His 105 RBI also equals what had been the Mets' all-time record up until 1991. 7. That was Jerry who ignored Perez. And it was more than a month.
  8. Let's bat around and get Buffalo one more swing.
  9. Ramos swung at about seven balls there.
  10. Next is hopefully getting Wilson Ramos a hit.
  11. The Mets have always hit Fernando Rodney.
  12. Lugo for the seventh. I shit you not, I think, if he can't finish the game, the next out of the bullpen is Syndergaard. Should be, anyhow.
  13. Better to fail in the bullpen earlier, because that gives them time to get the runs back?
  14. Who else was hoping we'd get an extended Jim Abbott feature that inning?
  15. A two-run single by Rosario, and we're talking Moneyball with Mike Rizzo. Then the Mets inning continues and we get sketch comedy.
  16. "And now we're happy to have Pauly Shore in the booth with us. Pauly, what do you look for in a leadoff hitter?"
  17. Wheeler isn't playing flat, anyhow.
  18. Oh, fuck me, they're talking about Jeter and his mythological dive, actually suggesting that it wasn't an event, but it happened regularly.
  19. I'm not sure he's been plugged in. I think he just asked if the National League has adopted the DH yet.

  21. I was so looking forward to updating where Pete Alonso's historic season was heading after a win. It's getting to be that the only thing that's a worse omen for the Mets than a deGrom start is an Alonso homer. 22. The whole "Let's save this reliever for tomorrow" strategy? That's some smoking bullshit.
  23. Holy sticky disgusting liquid shit running out of me all over the bathroom. Nay ... the bedroom.
  24. I hadn't even realized Zimmerman was still at it.
