  1. I think it's pretty good bet to count Porky+Wacha in the rotation, if that's how it shakes out, as an upgrade over Jason Vargas.

  4. =smg58 post_id=28249 time=1576160677 user_id=62]Rosenthal should just stop. Our biggest need was starting pitching, which has NOT been adequately addressed, and now we're going to make our rotation even worse just to move Lowrie's contract?
  5. Edgy MD wrote: It think it's a pretty good rotation, and the beginning of the season is fifteen or sixteen weeks off. It's also not really locked in as such. The Mets were a “pretty good” team last year with a better rotation. We shouldn't settle for “pretty good.” Well, we're not discussing the team here, or the organization, but one unit at one point in time, in December. I think there's a lot to be said for not locking in to one alignment certainly at this point.
  6. Anthony Rendon to the Anaheim Angels for seven years, $245 million. That's an average annual value of — HOLY SHIT! — $35 million a year. Good strategy! Sign while teams are pissed about missing out on Gerrit Cole. Now somebody's going to sign with the Nats while they're pissed about missing out on Rendon. Time to wake up your agent, Joe Panik. 8. There you go. Now, I'm not saying I'm gay, but my favorite players to this day are Dick Pole and Johnny Dickshot, and I don't feel like I should have to apologize for that.
  9. Let us please not go there. Let us speak only of our own gayness.
  10. Overlooked back in September was the announced retirement of 2015 draft choice Kevin Kaczmarski. He was hitting .300+ for Las Vegas back 2018, and it earned him a brief look with the big team as a lefty pinch-hitter, despite his never having showed enough power for a corner outfielder. The one time he reached base, in his second pinch-hitting appearance, was on a walk. He then tried to show the qualities that he hoped would get him a ticket to stay, taking off for second and being thrown out pretty easily by Pirates catcher Elias Diaz. His helmet flew off and there was some kind of resignation in the way he picked up his helmet and walked off. "I'm in the best shape of my life, putting together the best sustained run of hitting I've had as a pro," his body language seemed to say, "but I really don't belong here." They were up 3-0 in the seventh at the time, and as much as you might have tried to chalk the caught-stealing off to experience, it totally sapped the the Mets' mojo, with the team going on to lose, 5-3, featuring Jeurys Familia's worst appearance of the year, giving up four earned runs without getting an out. If you have any memories of Kevin Kaczmarski beyond that, well, I'd sure like to hear 'em. http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Kevin+Kaczmarski+Pittsburgh+Pirates+vs+New+KVfspIzud42l.jpg>
  11. Looks like Korean stadia have natural grass. The NC Dinos seem to at any rate.
  12. Yeah, he also had a heck of a vertical leap. I suspect he's a good basketballer, and I suspect that his athletic skills make him more attractive than his stats do. He was shit at cornering, though. https://twitter.com/SamanthaAltherr/status/1194101893414506497
  13. marte v nimmo Can't wait 'til this movie comes out.
  14. Even counting that awful, shitty start to last season, I think Nimmo is, at this point, perhaps the third-best player on the team. Maybe fourth, depending on how you feel about McNeil. And he hasn't really played a full season post-to-post. My main concern about him is that he so openly hunts for walks and HbPs that I think umps have turned on him and are starting to increasingly expand the zone against him, probably without realizing they are doing it. As with Starlin Castro, I find that guys with "star" in their name have an artificial premium on the market.
  15. Whoah, hey, not cool. You're counting his performance with the Giants (0-for-1) and the Phillies (1-for-29) against his record, when in fact, these outputs helped the Mets. By comparison, his 4-for-31 (.129 / .200 / .258 // .458) run with the Mets was positively robust. His lone home run came with the Mets as a pinch-hitter (vertreter) in his very first appearance with the team.
  16. Some organizational attrition in recent weeks, including some guys disappearing while you were sleeping. 17. We missed it when it happened two weeks ago, but before Flexie or Gaggie signed to play in Korea, 2019 outfielder Aaron Altherr did. Not without his moments, but ultimately failed to surpass Ron Gardenhire (although maybe Tobi Stoner) as the greatest-ever Met born in Germany. Ultimately got more time on the roster than other bigger reserve-outfielder names such as Carlos Gomez or Rajai Davis (though GoGo saw more playing time). And hey, Gregor Blanco and Travis Taijeron saw no time at all. Matt Kemp, too! https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2019/05/aaron-altherr-1.jpg?quality=90&strip=all>
  18. Daniel Zamora's shot looks like a high school photo of Matt Harvey.
  19. Our newest signee is an athletic, defensive-first catcher, although with some puncher's power, said to be great at keeping pitches in the dirt from getting away. He appears to have had a good Winter season in the Caribbean, however. I suspect that he's a signal that the Mets are preparing to lose Patrick Mazeika in the Rule V Draft, as he'll be the fourth catcher for the team that did most of their work at AA last year, creating a minor logjam for playing time. 21. For what it's worth, those rankings don't represent last season, so much as career trends. They're designed to resemble golf and tennis rankings, so if a guy is a top pitcher is at the top in 2018, but merely average in 2019, he still won't fall out of the top 12 or so. Which isn't to say those three weren't terrific. They were.
  22. They can pick up somebody, they just have to make a move to clear a roster spot if and when they do.
  23. Anyhow, I like the new look division rival threads. I looked at the Marlins roster, though, and I could hardly find anyone I know well enough to hate on.
  24. Was mostly a starter in the minors, but only got one start at the big league level — his debut, in which he was hit pretty hard as well. It was something of a https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-sports-mets-phillies-gamebox-20180710-story.htmllowpoint for the 2018 squad. Part of the reason I don't like the rotating cycle of faces they've been using in the bullpen during the Callaway era is that instead of letting one guy take his licks until he figures things out as a big leaguer, they rotate a guy out after a few outings and throw another into the breach. Nobody really sticks around long enough to get a chance to turn a corner. A former LBS Dirtbag.
