  1. Not Boho. But interestingly, this guy's two tenures in Coorsland came something like immediately before and immediately after Brian's. While you're working on that one, this array (we'll call it group appeared last night featuring two Mets plus one forum member: https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/screen-shot-2020-03-23-at-8.17.27-am.png> Group C hit the mat this morning, featuring but one Met, although there was also one Mets coaching-staff-member type. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/screen-shot-2020-03-23-at-10.40.06-am.png>
  2. The Rocky is not HoJo, but he is our final Mets face.
  3. So far, so good. The last one played nicely for the Mets, but nonetheless, was on the wrong end of a lopsided trade.
  4. Four Mets in today's array at baseball-reference.com https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/screen-shot-2020-03-22-at-9.32.36-pm.png>
  5. I like game action. If I buy the download, I'd be happy to skipper some GM-only guy's team. I'm pretty sure The Old Mole plays too, but prefers historical teams. But I confuse OotP with Diamond Mind.
  6. I played two seasons back in the day. Enjoyed it but found it time consuming. I was trying to finish off a game with a big lead one night and fell asleep, and woke up having intentionally walked six or seven in a row. Still woke up and won that one though. I started out with the Mets in Terry's first season and I ended up winning 108 games in year two. I figured I had established my genius and I put it aside. I'm pretty sure Seawolf plays it religiously, and is currently up to like 2048 with the Mets and has won a dozen championships or so, getting 300 wins out of Yusmeiro Petit. Put I think he just GMs his teams. I tried to GM and field manage them at the same time. I like the idea, but everything is seeming cost-prohibitive right now. I need to either sell a manuscript or put the KISS dolls on ebay.

As a sidenote from several months ago (or decades, in Trump time), Lexington Police https://www.lex18.com/police-continue-search-for-melanie-flynn-despite-no-sign-of-remainsreopened the case last summer of Doug's long-missing (and presumed dead) sister.
  8. Actually, I'm thinking Fudgy the Whalen wasn't an official Mets camper anyhow, despite reports to the contrary. As you bunker down wherever you're bunkering down, and life has seemingly ground to a stop, the ever-professional Mets execs have still found the time and capacity to get their jobs done. Unfortunately, at this time of year, their job is http://companion.thecranepool.net/recent-transactions-blog/while-you-were-quarantiningbreaking young men's hearts. http://companion.thecranepool.net/recent-transactions-blog/while-you-were-quarantining[fimg=400]https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/transaction-3-20-2020.jpg[/fimg] https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/current-mets-coaching-staff/https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/02/view-mets-mlb-coaching-staff.png> https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/current-roster/https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/02/view-mets-mlb-roster-1.png> http://companion.thecranepool.net/recent-transactions-bloghttps://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/visit-blog-button.png>
  9. Even then, I realized it was a TV cheapie knockoff of Black Sunday. I was rooting for it to succeed, hoping to see how far down the feeding chain they would go. Hailstorm During the Stanley Cup Finals! Super Windy Day at the Masters!
  10. This featured the two most colorful teams a TV could handle at the time, if I recall correctly. Houston and Oakland?

  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I knew who my pick was going to be even before I read the list. R. Lee Ermey. (Who was also in Toy Story. "Where is your honor, you dirtbag!") Hey, you get three picks!
  13. Good job pointing out Ermey's other roles. I guess James Caan and Jack Webb are the only ones here where the drill instructor is the protagonist.
  14. Howe played professionally under eight different presidents and six prime ministers (seven if you count Pierre Trudeau twice).
  15. Gotta be Howe. Not only jumped teams after two decades, but leagues as well.
  16. San Juan series cancelled, as well as a Padres/Diamondbacks trip to Mexico City April 18th and 19th. For now, the Cubs/Cards visit to London June 13th and 14th is still on. And yeah, the press release says "cancelled," rather than "postponed," so I'm guessing a rescheduling isn't in the cards.
  17. I say "hey"! And I say "Hammer"!
  18. As stock characters go, it's hard to beat abusive asshole drill sergeants for Oscar bait. Yeah, they're rarely the protagonist, so they have to go for supporting Oscars, but being that they allow you to go broad instead of deep, rattle off shtick at a shouting level nose-to-nose with recruits who are usually the stars of the film, putting emphasis in weird places, they usually get to steal virtually every scene they're in. With luck, there will be an ambiguity of whether Sarge is just molding men, is an actual sadistic asshole, or even perhaps has an underlying personality disorder that only becomes fully clear later when he gets his drink on. Which one is it? Will we find out before basic training is over and we ship out? Oscar gold. Some sergeants aren't sergeants at all, but higher-ups. Officers. But they still have to play the sergeant's role in the film, abusing recruits during training, trying to turn some sad sack of shit into a soldier. Or a sailor. Or a marine. Some sergeants aren't sergeants simply because the film is set in a different military branch where the ranks have different names. Although several of these guys come from comedies, I tried with the choices to stay out of outright burlesques — like abusive boy scout leaders who act like drill sergeants, and shit like that. On the other hand, nothing is better than Andy Griffith Show episodes where Gomer and/or Floyd and/or Goober or some other Mayberrians get deputized and Barney tries to drill them into shape. Pure comedy gold. Also, these films should be set in large part, or en toto, in training. In movies that are mostly combat, sergeants are usually cool dudes. They still scream, but they suck on stale cigars and wear dogface shaves and charge in bravely under fire and their men would follow them to the mouth of Hell. It takes three or four wounds (or more) to kill them and they usually die saving the day. But training sergeants are mostly colorful assholes. I should probably take The Dirty Dozen out based on that distinctions, but it's already in there. Vote three times. Also, even though the voting mechanism will only allow three votes per customer, I feel like MFS62 should get a few more. 19. Ummm ... good point.
  20. Phil Hughes, not particularly jazzed about being honored by the Yankees.

We're calling Lunchbucket our winner because he participated most and times are hard and a participation trophy is a nice break from the bullshit. Seawolf would have walked away with the win if he had earned his bonus points on that last question by stylizing his answer as Dwight Bernard. Too bad! NAME THOSE METS BEARDS was filmed live before a television audience at our studio in Television City, Los Angeles. All viewers in our studio audience will go home with prizes provided by our sponsors. I'm Edgy MD. On behalf of CBS, Dom Smith, and all of our NTMB family, we look forward to seeing you next time on ... NAME THOSE METS BEARDS! Good-bye everybody!
  22. While I assume transactions are still eligible to happen, and maybe a few have, the wire is not going to light up a lot in coming weeks. In fact, I think this could be the end of the line for a whole class of ballplayers on the margins. If you're not in somebody's camp yet, a late invitation is unlikely to happen, because nobody even has any idea what their budget is anymore, because they don't know how much of the season is washed out. Also, as nobody else is likely to blow out an elbow in the next few weeks, sudden openings won't be popping up. Probably the opposite, as injured players are given that much more time to heal, teams feel less pressure to have Plans B and C ready for opening day, whenever that might be. And these marginal players probably won't even have much of a chance to fall back on the indy leagues as a chance to stay in the picture and stay in shape. I imagine they are all seriously considering canceling the whole season, as they seemingly tend to operate pretty close to the margins themselves. Even non-roster players who are under contract are in a tough spot right now, as they may end up getting cut or released never really having a chance to show what they could do. You can hang on to your Devin Mesoraco and Ervin Santana stocks, but I don't think they're going to bounce back.

This guy made folks think about beards even when he wasn't rocking one. This is our final beard of the program. So it's time to buzz in.
  24. [FIMG=450]https://themetssiahdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2017/08/img_5287-1.jpg[/FIMG] I guess so, but if you double-guess, I show you the middle-aged dad-bod I was rocking at 21, plus my super-cheesy little-boy-with- Jesus tattoo. Did somebody ask for a BEAR? (Not Ed Glynn.)
