  1. Rosario into the game as the pinch-runner and the next guy off the Mets bench is ... Matz?
  2. I'm kind of Nerised out. Let's pound this guy.
  3. He sure earned his Mets stripes that inning.
  4. Ron says he couldn't pull off Castro's shoes. Ron, you wore Roos!
  5. Yeah, he didn't know there were two out. He should have scored standing up. Tied up going to the bottom of the eighth. Nimmo and Ramos out of the game. I see the point of DHing Alonso these days, but putting him on the bench just gives him more time to tear his hair out between at-bats.
  6. I wonder if anybody in Philadelphia held a grudge about Asdrubal Cabrera's bat flip after he became a Phil.
  7. Yeah, I think a lot of what gets relegated to the luck column is just stuff that we haven't figured out how to quantify.
  8. A clout by Davis is a dear thing, because none of their righties — Davis, Alonso, Ramos, Todd — had been producing during this skid.
  9. So much bonin'. But Ramos could hardly have done anything with that.
  10. Yes, and in my experience, a close race is bad for the defending champ.
  11. McNeil is a much better defensive third baseman than Davis, and his lineup weakens two positions defensively. I don't think this season's defensive metrics would support that. It's limited data, but it's current.
  12. It's funny but it's hard to get a solid read on Rojas' in-game calls when his face is covered.
  13. Is something heating up between Jeff McNeil and his manager? Jeff has seemingly had the red ass for two weeks, and his sudden explosion of power didn't seem to lift it, or stop him from making some boneheaded moves. The team has some lovely redundancy in the infield, but it'll be a shame if they can't come to an understanding and he wins his batting average title for someone else. I've already seen that movie and it was called The Jeff Kent Story.

Bunt, especially if they're giving it to you. Yes that leads to other sorts of outs, but the upside is greater because I say it is. Ways to get a guy in from third: Take early in the count. Bunt, especially if they're giving it to you. Shorten up with two strikes. Make like a Marlin and just steal the damn plate if the nearest defender is 60 feet away. Enough of this notion that, if a guy's game is swinging from the heels, you've got to let him do that. Learn to take what you're given. The game is too hard and you're just making it harder if you don't. I don't need another half hour of shots of Pete Alonso in existential agony. This is the best hitting team in the league and they can't score. That's way too much irony for me. Responsible baserunning, effective bunting, clean fundies, and heads-up play shouldn't be rare virtues, but basic organizational standards.
  15. Man, this is such a fixable thing.
  16. No, he's been walkhunting since before he came up. I'm not asking you to count on anything. I'm asking Nimmo to attempt to be cool. Also, he inexplicably swung at strike one in the ninth. For a walkhunter, he sure doesn't seem to get that you never swing there.
  17. Conforto has been swinging at balls in on his belt buckle this evening.
  18. Another 10-hit game too.
  19. Edwin Diaz does not look defeated. Or maybe he does but it just makes him more relaxed and therefore dangerous.
  20. Everybody on this team looks defeated.
  21. Kingery didn't gak on that throw. He rushed it and threw off balance. And the Mets run their way out of the inning.
  22. Gary's wrong. He says Aparicio is the only MLB offensive player to play only one position his whole career, but https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/smithoz01.shtmlOzzie Smith never played anywhere but shortstop.
