  1. =kcmets post_id=63233 time=1620271755 user_id=53]This magic moment
  2. I always kind of root for more attrition when the manager gets tossed — successive ejections just to see who is next in the line of succession. Did Vance Wilson get to take over?
  3. Drugging your way off a first place team and then going to a cellar-dwellar, helping turn them around, getting clean, and leading them into a bitter rivalry against the team you drugged your way of can certainly leave something of a bad taste in the mouth for a while. Gary mentioned today how polite and tolerant he has found St. Louis fans to be. That hasn't been my experience.
  4. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: The frisbee play I meant was just getting totally horizontal at speed, but O'Neill couldn't hold onto the ball. Agreed. I was just thinking that there's this magic moment on such plays, when a frisbee is thrown ahead toward the end zone, and the whole swarm on both sides realizes about the same that only one player has a chance to run it down. Everybody else stops running at once and as he streaks on ahead and goes full extension into a high impact dive, even the other team is kind of rooting for him to come up with it.
  5. Steve Henderson's Met career ended when he was traded for Dave Kingman in the 1980-1981 offseason. He was acquired in the Seaver deal in 1977. Neither of those facts is particularly obscure, but you put them together along with the fact that the Mets dealt Kingman at the same time as Seaver in the same Midnight Massacre, and it becomes suddenly clear that Steve's 3 1/2-year career the team was perfect Henderson sandwich nestled stunningly perfectly between two big slices of Kingman. It was almost literally an interregnum. One or the other was on the roster for nine years, but they never spent a day as teammates.
  6. I'm remembering when it was a tossup whether Goldschmidt or Ike Davis was the better asset at first.
  7. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: That was an ultimate frisbee kinda effort That's exactly what it was. The kind of effort that turns everybody else on both teams into spectators.
  8. Did the Cards just bring Jody Watley into the game?
  9. Six pitches and done for Mr. May.
  10. Time to sign Villar to a 10-year, $342 million extension.
  11. It's like the second opening day today. Maz was called up last year but never got into a game.
  12. Aaron Loup came real close to turning into Aaron Poup there and, well, we're a few notches into the pen already.
  13. Loup leaving some junk over the plate to righthanded hitters.
  14. Nido is putting Lindy to shame also. Apparently, guys coming up from the minors are being treated like it's only the second week of spring training with regard to pitch counts.
  15. Yammy seems to be cut from Stro's cloth, intensity wise.
  16. Bunting against the shift. Totally a legal thing!
  17. Mr. Stroman threw a man of an inning there.
  18. Use two claws, polar bear.
  19. The Rube Walker of the O's.
  20. I won't make too much of which umpire blew this call, because he's not wrong that the LED display on the outfield wall is a visual impediment. Special appearance by our own Vance Wilson.
  21. That's pretty clarifying. I suspect Rojas' defense was more about loyalty to his crew than in believing in the the process that was unfolding. At least, I hope so.
  22. A strong start by Tyler Megill (he called himself "L'il") in last night's opener against Akron resulted in only one run on two hits in five innings, striking out 10 and walking three, but they lifted him after only 74 pitches because the world has gone mad. Asked to defend a 4-2 lead in the ninth, Joseph Zanghi got only one out. He managed two walks and a three-run homer by the Rubber Ducks' baby-faced #8-hitting masher Oscar Gonzalez and the https://www.milb.com/gameday/rumble-ponies-vs-rubberducks/2021/05/04/646695#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=646695game was over. Two Ponies were cut down at third base.
