  1. McKinney still paying dividends for the Mets after his first plate appearance.
  2. The first 13 votes give us an average of 7.54.
  3. https://twitter.com/djshort/status/1426005212955910145 I demand Shea Stadium be reconstructed for an Odd Couple game.
  4. =G-Fafif post_id=74324 time=1628861993 user_id=55] Remarkable setting. Spectacular (not to mention desired) conclusion. Imperfect but ultimately moving movie served as inspiration for baseball to do something out of the ordinary that came off as extraordinary. Tim Anderson was transcendent. It was the most brilliant baseball ending of the day, and that's taking into account Pete Alonso's exploits hours earlier. Here's to a little joy on a Thursday night.
  5. Oh, I've got other quibbles. A major theme of the film was the redemption of the reputation of Joe Jackson. MLB, in presenting this game, appropriates the warm feelies generated by that cinematic redemption while still perpetuating the damnation of the same in Jackson's real-world ban. Putting a fence in between the cornfield and the baseball field undermines the pastoral theme of baseball on the prairie with it's perpetual outfield stretching into eternity, actually becoming a gateway between eternity and the temporal world the film. Beyond the warning track should have led right into the field, and any hits out there should have remained in play, giving us the joy of outfielders chasing deep drives through the stalks and invisibly launching blind throws out of corn while mesomorphs try to circle the bases. That would be some good baseball! The leftfielders wore shoes.
  6. I'm again disappointed to read you calling people garbage. Frayed Knot wrote: Edgy MD wrote: I didn't see anybody killing him. "Bad job by Luis" "Why are we coddling these guys?" My point is that using your closer to cinch a three run game is, at best, more often than not an inefficient use of resources. At worst it's playing for stats above wins. Now throw in that Diaz was used twice in the previous 20 hours and I'd argue that using him in a low leverage situation against a (currently) bad team would be closer to blatant misuse. Yeah, I'm going to support that. Add in that there was a dangerously high heat index and it's not far fetched to say a second appearance wouldn't necessarily have been the best thing for everybody. I'll also note that McNuggett may have failed to keep the ball in the infield on the game-tying hit, but he had spent two games in the sun out there today playing on a weak leg.
  7. I didn't see anybody killing him. I questioned it because: (1) I was ignorant, having been out in the sun all day and not realizing I was watching game two and not game one, in which Diaz had already appeared, and (2) It was only after May exited with the bases bloated and Familia came on. My bad, but no killing under any circumstances. And I'll even step up for Familia. Awarding a single win or loss exclusively to any pitcher is archaic, but Familia more or less got the job done, The Mets just didn't make the plays.

For a while that was considered the big thing among environmentalists but it proved to be more promise than performance to the point where even Al Gore finally admitted that the (public) money poured into it had been a mistake. And it's still subsidized and it probably will be as long as the primary season continues to start with the Iowa Caucus.
  9. (DebbieDowner)I'm pretty sure the ballfield is several hundred yards from where the field stood in the film. And beyond that, building an actual ballpark around the field kind of undermines the spirit of the enterprise, no?(/DebbieDowner)
  10. McNeil owes this team a homerun here.
  11. HA! I was out all day. Missed the other game. Hey, look! They won!
  12. Not that I distrust going to Familia, but if the reason is that you don't want to use Diaz in both ends of a doubleheader, why is this the game you want to keep him out of. Is there a reason to presume he'll be more needed in the second game?
  13. This brings up a curiosity: If a game is scheduled for seven innings, and then rescheduled (or continued following a suspenion), does it maintain the seven-inning status even if it is played on a later day without a second game?

  16. I'll take Nimmo scoring from first on a double as an expression of good baserunning.
  17. I'm not sure it's Villar's aggressiveness (or even necessarily aggressiveness) that has been the major factor. But hopefully Pete can do his baserunning in a trot.
  18. Are these two games single admission or double? Because I can imagine the weather/last-minute rescheduling/weekday afternoon factors might lead to a crowd of about 75 peeps if they aren't willing to admit folks with a ticket to the later game early.
  19. Yup. Continuity is the rule.
  20. Excessive Heat + Thunderstorms is generally a dangerous recipe. Do the teams get their extra dude for the roster?
  21. I missed the strife in this thread because the subject wasn't one I was interested in. Can we please keep political discourse in the NBF? Beyond that, the Red Light Forum is also a lovely place for off-topic confrontations. Let's please keep the poop out of sandbox.
