  1. Four perfect for Harv - and on about three innings worth of pitches. Now all we have to do is: a) have him keep in going, and HIT!!!!

It's just recently been announced that Howie is leaving his Islanders gig. Doesn't sound like it was a push-out but rather his choice to simply cut back. And of course the win-win in that is fewer missed April Met games. Mitch's unsteady gait was likely related to somewhat recent spinal surgery. It is. He's been on the wheelchair to walker to cane to the current limp line of progression, all of which must suck although it certainly beats the other way around. - Gooden's gauntness was apparent during his FOX drop-in inning as well. - Someone needs to tell Lenny that the jersey tucked into the dress pants look doesn't cut it.

  5. 1:10 start (WAKE UP EVERYONE!!). Any rain in the area looks likely to exit prior to game time. Matt Harvey (you may have heard of him) vs Jose Quintana (who may be the best pitcher you've not heard of) Quintana, a 27 y/o Columbian lefty (yes, another lefty) is in his fifth season with the south-side Chicagoans. Currently 5-4 but with a 2.22 ERA; a 1.015 WHiP; 60 K / 12 BB (funny how a K/BB ratio of ONLY 5-to-1 looks like nothing special compared to last night) His stats were even better up until his last two starts where he gave up 3 and 4 runs; prior to that his earned runs allowed had been a string of zeros, ones, and twos. Basically the White Sox are a bit below the AL average in run scoring this season but second best (behind only Seattle) in run preventing. We need to know more about them.
  6. A weekend with what was essentially a non-appearance for Syndergaard plus two horrid outings for Familia. Tough to win with that formula. Oh well, at least we have Harvey going tomorrow.
  7. The problem, quite obviously, was the walks. No one hit the ball hard that entire inning but he missed with something like seven straight pitches that weren't even close to the zone.
  8. Rockin' Doc wrote: Of course, I wouldn't go to Familia in a non-save situation here. There won't be a save situation tonight. This is the time to use him.
  9. C'mon Juan. This might be our last best chance to score.

I've been watching that, thinking ESPN would switch to the Mets as soon as the softball game ended. The the game was tied in last inning. By accident I found the Mets were on the next channel! This game was scheduled for ESPN2 because they thought they might have playoff basketball tonight. Normally they'd have the hoops on ABC but they've got racing there right now so that's why baseball was due to be bumped over to the poor neighborhood. But when that series ended in six the main channel was freed up.
  11. I'd reject this challenge if it were up to me ... but I also have no idea what the rule is at this point.
  12. Clayton Kershaw looks a bit like Tom Waits's more athletic and somewhat cleaned-up brother.
  13. Sometimes after a couple of bad games (well one bad game plus a large blown lead from the night before) it helps to look at other fucked-up outings throughout the league. - The White Sox [u:21177rra]blew a 7-1 9th inning lead[/u:21177rra] in KC. Former Yank David Robertson even got the leadoff batter in the 9th, but six hits, a walk, two intentional walks, and a wild pitch later, a bases-loaded single by a 27 y/o rookie call-up in his 2nd ever ML game (Brett Eibner) won it for the Royals. - Boston was almost as bad (bad day for teams with Sox) surrendering 4 in the 8th then 2 more in the 9th to lose to Toronto. Kimbrel didn't start the trouble but he also couldn't save it. - Yu Darvish went 5 innings for Texas and got the win vs Pitt in his first game since TJ surgery in Aug of 2014 And for our own mental health and well being, the Nats, Marlins, Phils, and Yanx all lost on Saturday -- even if probably not is as annoying a fashion as we did.
  14. A T. J. Rivera write-up
  15. MFS62 wrote: And to make room on the roster they .... ? Didn't do anything yet. Loney was on a minor league deal so there's no move to make until he's added to the 25, probably after the weekend.
  16. I'd keep Reynolds and exchange Campbell & Kelly for Loney & Flores. Which order that happens in is pretty much irrelevant. Wilmer to be activated on Sunday, Loney on Monday or Tuesday according most recent scuttlebutt.
  17. The Dodgers were 10th in the NL in HRs up until about three hours ago.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: Who called for this replay? They should just stop pretending that there's a per/game limit. Any play that's sorta/kinda close and we'll take a five minute break to review it to within an inch of its life. It's a good thing that I don't have any alcohol in the house tonight otherwise I'd be pretty stinking' drunk right about now.
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: In the meantime, in (almost) six games with the Dodgers this season we have just 3 runs and 9 hits off their bullpen in 17-1/3 innings - all of the runs and most of the hits came last night. While the Dodgers have scored 12 runs off the Mets pen is just the last 7 innings.

  22. Not sure it's possible to write a worse script for tonight.
