  1. Remind me again how many replay challenges a team gets? Braves delay the game to challenge one but then decide against it. Then they do challenge another and lose the challenge and lose the argument after the challenge and the manager gets tossed for doing so. And then a half-inning later they don't like another call and they get to challenge that one. Essentially there's been three judgement calls tonight and the Braves have stopped the game to review the calls all three times. I hereby take back the nice things I said about the replay process 10 minutes ago.

But the 'I can't tell' response is exactly why it shouldn't be overturned. And I've got to say, whether by coincidence, by policy, or just small sample size, the umps back in the bunker seem to be my biggest fear with the replay rule and that's the one where guesses are made based on minute evidence is used as evidence enough for flipping the call.
  3. The sad part is that that was BY FAR not the worst bad-info Francesa has given out over the air
  4. These type of hypothetical questions get asked of every team every year: but if you were to be told that the 3-4-5 in a mid-season lineup would be James Loney, Neil Walker, Kelly Johnson, how many dozen games below .500 would you guess they'd be?
  5. MFS62 wrote: My mom (may she rest in Peace) would call someone a "real pup" meaning son-of-a-bitch. Could that be what Terry means, or just an obedient puppy who just follows his master(s) around and obeys every command? Probably the second. Oh it's definitely the latter. The question is whether it's an enduring type of term that's often used around the office to describe Jay, or if it's something Terry free-lanced on his own as a way to derisively mock how Jay obediently follows every order from the suits above and so now he had to go and tell the reporters what he preferred to keep in-house at least until they had some kind of initial word from the medical folks. That Terry didn't seem too pleased during his terse announcement there leads me to believe he went a bit off the reservation there and, well, aired some dirty laundry.
  6. 1. Cespedes has hit four homers in 14 games versus Atlanta and was 4-for-6 against Kansas City before exiting Wednesday's game. Yeah, but it sounds like he'll be out a couple days with this wrist thing so he may not ever bat the whole weekend.

  8. What's more unusual, that the CF/leadoff hitter had five Ks and the game-losing error, or that Yasiel Puig was actually hustling on the play? ba-dum-ching! Nats not faring too well on their first west coast swing of the year. They started out taking the first two in SD but have lost five straight since. Today they get a travel day en route to a weekend series at Milwaukee in advance of our matchup with them next week.
  9. KTE revenge series. Thursday 7:10 -- Matt Harvey vs Matt Wisler [3-7, 4.23] We lost to Wisler back on May 3rd on a combined 1-hit shutout. Friday 7:35 -- Steven Matz vs Aaron Blair [0-4, 7.19] We nicked Blair for 3 runs in 5 innings in the middle game of the sweep disaster last week when Matz, Henderson & Reed blew the 3-run lead when they combined to give up solo runs in four consecutive innings Saturday 7:15 -- deGrom vs Julio Teheran [3-7, 2.66] Was last seen twirling the one-hitter on Sunday Sunday 1:35 -- Bartolo Colon vs Bud Norris [2-7, 4.69] We bopped Norris around in an early season start, but then basically couldn't touch him during two different 2-inning relief appearances. Braves lost Wednesday afternoon to Miami which busted up their six game winning streak which included games started by Harvey, Matz, deGrom, and Jose Fernandez Remember when we hit OF Mallex Smith with a pitch last week? Well his thumb turned out to be broken so he won't be around in this series.
  10. Yanx went on to win that game after both teams blew 4-run leads ... and it wasn't even at Coors! Nats down 1-0 early in LA trying to not get swept by the Dodgers. Cubs got thumped by the Cards - and with Arrieta on the mound no less. First time Cubs were swept all year.

  12. So now it's 8-7 Rox on account of Beltran's 7th inning 3R HR - his 19th!! He hit 19 & 15 over the last two seasons and is 39 freakin' years old. and now it's 8-8
  13. Ceetar wrote: - Yanx jumped out to a 4-run lead on a Chase Headley 2nd inning Grand Slam but Sabathia, who had been pitching well recently, gave it all back and more by the 4th: 5-4 Rox after 4. . oof. CC had been unhittable so I picked him up in fantasy. Serves you right for relying on Yanquis. Now 8-4 Rox in the 7th. 6 runs (5 earned) for CC over 4.1
  14. Of all the things to complain about this season, Neil Walker is WAY down the list. And not exactly "Comtastic" on that play to throw out Dyson (who actually suxx) Meanwhile, if this game goes into extras (or even if it doesn't) we could be in trouble. Not only is the pen over-worked from yesterday but we're already down to just d'Arnaud on the bench. De Aza already in for Cespedes, Conforto for Reynolds, and Kelly farmed out for Verrett
  15. Forget Hillary & Trump ... I'm voting Asdrubal for Prez!!!
  16. Duffy is doing the pen to starter transition thing and has yet to throw as many as 90 pitches this year. He's already at 75 thru 4 so we'll be into their bullpen fairly soon. Whether that's a good thing or not I'm not sure.
  17. Several other day games today: - Braves 6-game winning streak is ended by the Marlins, a 3-0 shutout for Adam Conley & help. - Yanx jumped out to a 4-run lead on a Chase Headley 2nd inning Grand Slam but Sabathia, who had been pitching well recently, gave it all back and more by the 4th: 5-4 Rox after 4. - Cubs & Cards finishing up their series after the Cards have taken the first two. Wacha vs Arrieta, just underway at Wrigley.
  18. An actual RiSPy hit!!! (first one in 28 ABs) ... and we'll ignore the fact that it wouldn't have scored a run had the throw been better. Or that, other than the opposite field flare, none of the other batters hit a fair ball in an inning that started Walk - Single.
  19. A walk, a double, and a couple of other hard-hit balls, but once again the well-timed GiDP saves us from scoring any of those run things that I hear about from other teams. Mets now 0 for their last 25 w/RiSP
  20. Most people think about abandoning the pool to go to the Jersey Shore for summer solstice. Here at Crane Central, Jersey Shore suddenly shows up at the 'Pool on the summer solstice. Like Gary was saying last night, not really sure what kind of role Jose plays if they sign him or how good he'll even be when they use him however they wind up using him.
  21. Last night was a much delayed and much appreciated TH night. Mets 2 - Royals 1 Rockies 8 - Yanx 4 Dodgers 3 - Nationals 2 (3 LA runs in the 8th) And you can even make it a Fourple Happiness day if you throw in the Braves (6 straight wins!!) knocking off the Marlins in 10 innings to help us regain 2nd place. It's been a long Happiness drought.
  22. Mets will give Cuban emigre Yunesky Gourriel a workout "We're gonna do our due diligence on that player," general manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday. "We've made arrangements to do that. At the same time, this player hasn't seen live pitching for weeks, if not months. It's not clear how long a player in that situation would take to be ready. Of course there's the investment and all the other issues, and making an evaluation based on workouts primarily … and not game competition. But we're gonna go through that process."
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: I'm just hoping that the Mets out-score Messi tonight. I put the odds at about 50/50 Barely, although Argentina out-scored the Mets overall.
  24. The Mets last hit with a RiSP was the 5th inning last Thursday when Neil Walker doubled in a runner from 3rd Since then they are 0 for 24: the final 6 such ABs on Thursday, 0 for 7 on Friday, 0 for 8 Saturday, and in Sunday's game they just cut the suspense by not actually getting a runner as far as 2nd. Monday there was no game so we had the same opportunities as Sunday and they're 0 for 3 tonight.
  25. Yeah, lotsa fly outs tonight. Which beats Sunday when there were lots of [u:ut2tzylp]Infield[/u:ut2tzylp] pop-ups for outs, but only slightly.
