  1. Well that may not have been the prettiest series win of the year but, y'know what, it was a series win.
  2. We scored a Reyes run via a running Reyes.
  3. And in the end he winds up coming close, and also not all that close.
  4. btw, if it does come down to a 9th inning relief job, Reed threw just 7 pitches last night and didn't give up a long HR while JF needed 15 pitches to get through his inning and did serve one up. Just sayin'
  5. Gary's overdoing this pitch count thing a bit. Matz is at 95 thru 7 which is under the 15/per you'd like your guy to be. Now the young guy, the hot day, the bone spur, and the 120 pitch outing last time are all factors, but Gary is acting as if Matz is already on the high side going into the 8th rather than somewhat below (approx. 13.6/per) Obviously it's all going to come down to who the 8th progresses, both in whether he still has the no-no but also how tough the road is to get there.
  6. So Matz started the game by walking the leadoff hitter but has allowed nothing since and has faced the minimum thru five thanks to that lone runner getting caught stealing. Mets meanwhile have their solo HR thing thing going (Flores & Walker) for a 2-0 lead. Other than the HRs, Mets have had 5 baserunners [1 single, 3 walks, 1 error] and have had three of them erased by two GiDPs plus a pick-off/CS.
  7. Marlins just lost. Pitt lost earlier, so did Rox (yes, we're reduced to worrying about the Rox). LAD won as did StL
  8. Infield grounders ... THAT we can do!
  9. Well if nothing else, the moves to bring up first Lugo and now Ynoa have been quite timely ... and necessary.
  10. And so it goes. But, y'know, when your offense consists of four singles (two of them infield) it's tough to blame the pitching. (now five hits)

  12. They got deGrom all of one run in Detroit last week too ... and that one didn't end well.
  13. Wow, someone actually got off the DL! I was beginning to think that list was becoming something like the old 'Roach Motel' ads: 'They check in, but they don't check out'
  14. Rodriguez: DH'ing and batting 3rd, 1 for 2 w/an RBI 2B
  15. you mean a three way tie for second? yes They should decide who gets the Silver, Bronze, and nothing via an intense session of Rock-Paper-Scissors (actually I think they just award three Silvers in this case) Meanwhile, between Keith making references to 'Paint Your Wagon' and 'Archie Bell and the Drells' they should get Warner Wolf to dust off one of his old schticks and comment on some of Keith's commentary: "... and if you had Keith Hernandez and a reference from the last half century ... YOU LOSE!!!"
  16. Getting the tying run to the plate after the start to this game is something, but we're also past moral victories at this point of the season. side note: Ledecky just won the 800 meters ... by about 400 meters (OK, probably only by like 50 or 60 meters but it might as well been 400)
  17. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Oh, I wasn't suggesting that was a good option. I just didn't know what the alternate options were. Judging by today ... Seth Lugo c'mon down!! I mean with Harvey & Wheeler already not available, Verrett came into this season as the 7th starter so once that option fails it's not like whatever you go to after that is going to be ideal.
  18. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: So, who replaces Verrett in the rotation? Niese? Considering that Niese gave up six in an inning yesterday it's tough to slot him in to replace the guy who just coughed up five.
  19. A caught stealing ... take the ball out of play!!!!

  21. Eh, no problems, we can get five runs in an inning too, right? Oh wait, we're the team that struggles to get five hits in a game.
  22. bmfc1 wrote: d'Arnaud starts tonight against a team that has 4 steals this season... of home! Although it's not like starting Rivera on Thursday slowed their running game down.
  23. We never did get a KTE for these guys back when we split a four-game series out there in May -- which is OK because it would be unusable now anyway seeing as how the entire team has turned over since then now has a almost a complete new cast of characters. C - Derek Norris is still there but is hitting .191 though with usual catcher's pop (12 HRs) 1B - Wil Myers is a once highly-touted prospect who just starting to come into his own now that he's on at least his 3rd org and 3rd position change 2B - the only thing I know about Ryan Schrimpf is he's last in the league in vowels SS - Alexi Ramirez is the Cuban ex-ChiSox who was one of the endless post-Reyes candidates we discussed here. Kind of good that Sandy et al didn't listen to whichever of us was touting him: .237/.273/.327 3B - Yangervis Solarte had like six good weeks in the Bronx a couple years back before being dealt off for Chase Headley in a move the Yanx probably regret: .292/.357/.490; 11 HRs LF - Rookie Alex Dickerson has been playing lately because the name change didn't reverse the declining fortunes of Melvin Upton CF - Travis Jankowski (Seawolf is going to remind you that he was a Seawolf) took over when Jon Jay got hurt and might not give the job back. He runs .. A LOT! - 25 steals in just 187 ABs including home twice RF - some rookie named Jabari Blash got the job when Matt Kemp was sent away in the latest episode of a team sending Matt Kemp away. Blash appeared in the May series but spent most of this year in the minors They sent away every pitcher who started against us in the series out there (Rea, Shields, Cashner, Pomeranz) even though they then got Rea back after he hurled 3 innings for the Marlins but he's DL'd now anyway. So we'll see former Astro/Marlin Paul Clemens on Friday. We should kick his ass just for the name alone Saturday, facing deGrom, will be Jared Cosart who, just for variety, is a former Astro & Marlin Sunday they've got TBD going against Matz. Not sure if TBD also pitched in Miami and Houston but I'm going to assume he did just to make things easier.
  24. Yeah, I can't see the Mets, or anyone else for that matter, claiming him. He'll most likely clear waivers in another two days and then someone will take a chance on him for the ML minimum. He's only signed through the end of this year so the bigger question is who gives him a chance this winter and how big a commitment it'll take. I have no idea how to judge him at this point and I think the Astros were as perplexed as anyone barely a year after giving up four prospects for him.

LZ is actually his name, printed that way on his birth certificate. I always thought that was cool. I've seen him in passing on TV here and there and I noticed whenever his name was shown that there were never dots indicating that L and Z were initials.
