  1. Cubs playing their 'A' lineup and with Jon Lester on the mound, so credit to them even after their clinch.
  2. Next guess = SFG I know they won once in the early '70s, then at least one during Will the Thrill's heyday, and then their current three hop-scotching titles. I may be missing a couple somewhere, but I'll say the Giants and exactly five.

Name the other four, and guess how many division titles the franchise has won. So this is specifically Division Titles and therefore the answers all have to come from post-1968 seasons? Assuming those are the goalposts under which we're operating here (SJR appears to be off-line right now) my first though was the BoSox who, for all their success recently, they never seem to put two together in consecutive years. As for the specific number of AL East titles for the BoSox ... I'll take a shot at 7

  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: So who pitches the ninth? My guess: Montero. Warthen. That's now 25 runs scored in the last 13 innings, the last 5 innings yesterday plus today's 8.

  7. It's like Keith takes sloppy play like this as an insult to the legacy of his own playing era. And, btw, suck on this score you late-starting games!!

  9. So the Yanx, down 2-1 entering the 9th, score twice to take the lead on Toronto. But then after Bettances walks the leadoff hitter (after starting 0-2) he was pulled in favor of Tyler Clippard due to a combination of the tough 8th inning Bettances pitched (nearly 30 pitches) and his inability to hold on runners. A single, a safety squeeze/bunt single, a K, an IW, and another single later and Clippard had blown his second game of this series and sends the Yanx to their 4th straight loss.
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Cabrera is zooming up my list of all time favorite Mets. I never would have predicted that. He's a warrior on the level of Keith Hernandez AND he looks like he's having fun out there. Nice article in today's NY Times on Cabrera
  11. Did Joe West even make a call when Bruce scampered home on that short passed ball or did he just figure that the dropped relay (which I didn't initially detect and I don't think Gary did either) was enough to indicate that the runner was safe and so actually making the 'Safe' sign was more energy than he cares to expend unless totally necessary?
  12. We Met fans keep writing Curtis off and he keep writing himself back into things again.
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Also, this: The Marlins had no immediate announcement as to whether they would resume their schedule with Monday’s home game against the New York Mets. They are due to finish the season next weekend in Washington. Cruel and meaningless as it may seem, they'll have to finish out the season both for their own season and for those scheduled against them. Now today's Atlanta game can probably be skipped (assuming no miracle Marlin finish that puts them in the WC mix) and both the Mets & Marlins have an open day on Thursday so it's possible that our series vs them gets slid back one day, but skipping a game outright could cause more problems than it seemingly saves.
  14. Holy shit!! Already was a star obviously, but also seemed like one of the good guys in the sport. A bit aggressive for some tastes but mostly just highly competitive and would have been one of the faces in the sport for the next decade or so.
  15. Today's starter, 22 y/o RH Jake Thompson, is another guy who came to Philly via the Cole Hamels deal though originally a 2nd round pick by Detroit. Made his ML debut on Aug 6th; 9 starts total [3-5, 5.62, 1.47]; got knocked around pretty good early but has been better lately.
  16. In SD, Hunter Strickland (SF) just struck out Hunter Renfroe (SD) with Hunter Pence in RF And while I was wondering if it was the first dual Hunter AB in history, it turns out that there are [u:16nqcl4t]Seven active[/u:16nqcl4t] Hunters in MLB in 2016 (five first names, two last names), the three in this game plus four others who have played at some point this year.
  17. And they're tied up in Sandy Eggo!! 6-6, bottom 7, Padres still batting. oe: now the 3rd out, going to the 8th

  21. [bobmurphy] ... and they lose the damn thing 10 to 8[/bobmurphy]
  22. Td'A hasn't HR'd in about as long as Duda, so he's due too.
  23. This Mariot guy is pitching like Paris Hilton ... or maybe John Hiatt.
