  1. Pile it the fuck on!!! This game's not going to end until midnight at this pace anyway, so we might as well score 20. Besides ... we may need it.
  2. And now another piece of shit baserunner to lead off an inning (I'm assuming an overturn here)!! oe: like Ronnie, I think I've been more wrong this year about replay than in any past season.
  3. Five Yanqui hits in two-plus innings ... four of them cheapies. I've seen this movie before.
  4. Edgy MD wrote: I don't think there's anything wrong with the notion he's espousing, it's just real dicky to be calling him out publicly. These conversations are usually started with the press folks asking some variation of the question why Trout isn't as well known or talked about as often as LeBron. And at least some part of the answer is: because he doesn't want to be. Not sure that's the same as publicly calling him out.
  5. I heard Manfred's comments and I don't think he's as harsh as being portrayed here. He's saying that it's ultimately up to the player as to how much he wants to put into marketing himself and that, absent that, there's only so much MLB can do. They can't force someone to be Face-smash savvy. MLB gets criticized often for 'not marketing their players' well enough (I've been hearing that since the dawn of time seemingly) but this isn't the NBA which is, and always has been, a star-driven league. That's trait is the main strength of the NBA although it's also their greatest weakness (Cavs are likely to go from 60-20 to 20-60 on account of one player moving). Plus, I believe 43% of the league is currently dating a Kardashian/Jenner although that number may have changed in the last ten minutes so my math may be off a bit.
  6. Machado to the Dodgers is a done deal - for five prospects highlighted by Cuban born OF Yusniel Diaz, a 21 y/o back of the top-100 prospect prior over this past winter but one who had stepped up his game in AA this season (.314/.428/.477)
  7. So let's see here: 10 innings, 18 pitchers, 14 combined runs scored with 13 of them coming via the HR; also 9 BBs & 25 Ks against 20 hits, a full half of those 20 hits were HRs Ladies and gentlemen: welcome to major league baseball, 2018 style! Perhaps no ASG has more symbolized its year since Willie McCovey knocked in the only run of the game on a 1st inning GiDP back in 1968, a game which featured eight hits combined, seven of them singles. Oh, and the run was unearned. Some rookie named Koosman came on with 2 outs in the 9th to strike out Yax for the final out and the save.
  8. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: geez someone discovered a lot of really inappropriate, and really old, remarks on Haders twitter, evidently during the game! Two steps to take after becoming famous: Step One: Erase everything you've ever said or done on social media Step Two: See 'Step One'
  9. Only because they agreed to move the game to his backyard.
  10. I think the owners -- or at least Manfred -- are kind of frustrated with Clark. He seems to be reluctant to commit to any of their suggestions. Manfred was on ESPN's PTI today and, when asked what he would impose if he could do so unilaterally, his answer was the pitch clock and would do so for less than the 20 seconds currently being discussed. The implication was that the players' side is reluctant to even concede to 20 just as they were last winter to any other pace of play mechanism. It almost seems like Clark is being contradictory because he thinks that's the role he supposed to play.
  11. Schwarber is undoubtedly quite strong, but he strikes me more as the 'body by Pizza Hut' type of build.
  12. And speaking of Harper's father ... you see the guns on that dude!? Makes one wonder whether the BP pitchers are subject to PED testing. That question might wind up in front of the Supreme Court too.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: There's nothing wrong with liking to see displays of patriotism. Those are real vets out there. The issue is the cynical and untransparent relationships, agreements, and money behind them, along with the heavy-handed enforcement from league offices. Or from the NFL which, it was eventually revealed, was flat-out selling their patriotic 'displays' which were nothing more than bought and paid for advertisements by the U.S. gov't (aka: your tax dollars at work) gussied up to look like tribute.
  14. So apparently there are Cubs fans -- guys who take this stuff maybe a bit too seriously -- who are demanding that Kyle Schwarber be declared the real HR Derby champion on account of Bryce Harper, along with his pitcher/dad, serving up the next pitch prior to the previously hit HR landing. This is apparently in violation of the rew-ells which, if followed properly, wouldn't have left Harper with enough time in the final 'round (or whatever they're calling it) to catch and pass Schwarber for this all-important 'title'. I wonder if this is the sort of 'cheating' which would make him ineligible for future HoF consideration?

  16. JdG's biggest problem is that he's not going to hit FAgency until age 32
  17. Peter Alonso just fouled off a bushel full of 3-2 pitches -- maybe a 12-pitch AB -- before finally going (very) high and (very) deep down the LF line in Nats Park with 2 outs and a man on to extend the USA lead to 3 in the 7th On the downside, I think he has a bit of a silly haircut (but I'm also old sowhatdoIknow?) He's now being interviewed by the pretty lady in the dugout, but I've got music on (George Harrison - 'Wah-Wah') so the TV sound is down and I can't hear him.
  18. First Cardinal manager fired mid-season since ... Joe Torre with the 20-27 Cards back in 1995 Matheny was in the midst of his seventh season leaving only La Russa, Schoendinst, and Herzog as guys who managed more StL games than Matheny's 1,064 and all of them (along with Torre for that matter) are in the HoF*. The kicker is that Matheny's record as skipper (.555) is better than all four of them. But, as pointed out, there's been clubhouse trouble lately and this is looking to be their 3rd straight season without post-season play (3rd in NLC - 7.5 games out) and maybe their first sub-.500 year since 2007 (currently 47-45) * Red more as a player than a manager, but still. BoSox hit their 9th Grand Slam of the season on Saturday (and their 3rd in the last week or so), this one a 10th inning walk-off from Xander Bogaerts Didn't the Mets go like two-plus seasons at one point not that long ago without hitting any?
  19. Centerfield wrote: Read a blurb that says Zack learned from deGrom to throw his fastball exclusively to the glove side. Anyone know what that means? Glove side for a RHP means inside corner to LHBs/outside corner to RHBs And it's not that he only throws his fastball to that side but that it's the tougher pitch to spot and so deGrom took to only warming up that way so as to make it more likely he'll be able to pull off that pitch if/when needed. Wheeler is now trying the same pre-game approach.
  20. He hasn't pitched since way back ... yesterday. The Yanx only had a three run lead and, in fairness, the Indians did have the bottom of the lineup due up.
  21. The problem with the AL is that everyone is beating up on the Royals & Orioles who are both on near-historic bad seasons so the league standings are very 'strung out' as opposed to the NL which is more 'compact'. The AL is also, for the first time in something like 15 years, losing the overall inter-league series to the NL - although it's still close enough to turn around (96-82) What's funny about the AL East race is that, the Sawx & Yanx play each other 6 times in the final 13 games including the final three. So, assuming the winner posts the best record in the league (not a given with Houston in the running) they could play the final three, then, following the WC play-in game, play each other all over again in Round 1 of the playoff making it up to 8 times head-to-head in 9 games, or 11 times in a 19 game span across late September/early October.
  22. Howard batted .189 in 96 PAs across two stops in AAA in 2017 -- Albuquerque (Rox) & Gwinnett (Braves) -- but has yet to register a BB-Ref entry for 2018
  23. Aroldis Chapman is this year's entry in the annual Yanqui tradition of pulling out of the All-Star game citing a strain of his 'I don't want to pitch in the All-Star Game' tendon.
  24. Q: The only thing better than a Mets win? A: A Mets win where you quickly click over to the Yanx game and see the last out of their loss 5 seconds later.
