  1. 24 hours or so remaining for any revisions/corrections. I believe CF & Edgy at least were/are planning to revise.
  2. Ah, thanks for the reminder as my self-imposed deadline snuck up on me. So assuming that others forgot as well, let's say Thursday night (Feb 2) at midnight for any late entries and/or changes and revisions.
  3. btw, Lin-Manual Miranda is up for the song "How Far I'll Go" from MOANA, which is significant in that, if he wins, it'll make him part of the exclusive 'EGOT' club designating those who have won an EMMY, a GRAMMY (2 in his case), an OSCAR, and a TONY (3). He also has a Pulitzer (PEGOT?). But don't feel too bad, it will have taken him nearly nine years to accomplish all that so he's practically a slacker.
  4. Wow, I saw a whopping 20 movies released in 2016 (quite high for me) even though many of them were seen just recently via cable and/or DVD In rough order of goodness, although that bottom section are essentially just interchangeable versions of 'Meh' that could go in pretty much any order HELL OR HIGH WATER - loved it the first time (theater) and even more the second (DVD) LA LA LAND - I'm not quite as over the moon as some, but very good ————————— CAPTAIN FANTASTIC - odd story well told, and the rare feat of having multiple child actors that I didn't want to strangle A MAN CALLED OVE - well-done version of the popular book which, by coincidence, I finished on the day this became available on disc. yes, it's in Swedish SING STREET - Irish music movie where I almost needed the subtitles as much as the Swedish film above ——————————- HAIL, CAESAR! - those goofy Coen boys get some good performances out of Clooney, Brolin, Swinton (x2) MANCHESTER BY THE SEA - well done but geez is it depressing SULLY - just watched it last night and found it better than I expected. (spoiler alert: Tom Hanks plays the hero) THE NICE GUYS - silly fun with R. Crowe and R. Gosling WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT - silly fun with Tina F. - albeit during a war and shit I SAW THE LIGHT - as bio-pics go it wasn't bad MIDNIGHT SPECIAL - Well done but, like this guy's other movie w/Michael Shannon (Take Shelter) I don't get where he's going with them A BIGGER SPLASH - Ralph Fiennes plays a music industry asshole, then things happen around him ——————————- ——————————- MONEY MONSTER - George Clooney solves the financial crisis in a matter of hours ... and with a gun pointed at his head no less DEEPWATER HORIZON - the better of the two Peter/Wahl Berg flicks (see also: Day, Patriots) THE BOSS - Melissa McCarthy being Melissa McCarthy PATRIOTS DAY - not sure if it wanted to be a procedural, a documentary, a tearjerker, a fundraiser, a flag-waver - so wound up as a confused slice of each RACE - a cookie-cutter-like bio like that Jackie Robinson one from a year or two ago, only not even that good 13 HOURS - I guess it gives a reasonable account of when things went sideways in Benghazi, but mostly just a lot of shit blows up EDDIE THE EAGLE - pretty much a waste
  5. Well, for me it was more that even guys that were on the team would have been more effective And, like I said, I think sticking him below the likes of Johnson, Flores, Conforto, and some others is perfectly justifiable. I just couldn't see off the list entirely or at the very bottom down below the guys who barely hit AND barely played. Is there a deadline to this? Midnight Jan 31 -- aka: one week from tonight -- sounds like as good a cut-off as any.
  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I don't remember now... At the time the Mets signed Loney, what was Duda's prognosis? Was there still hope that he'd be back earlier than it turned out? It certainly wasn't known immediately that it would be essentially a season-long thing. And the real impetus for Loney came after Wright when down in addition to Duda which meant that Wilmer was no longer the first option. On the subject of his ranking, I'm not trying to pull a Woody Allen here and claim that 90% of life is just showing up, but the idea of marking down Loney because you think that others who weren't actually on the team would have done better if they were isn't exactly the idea of this thing. These other maybe/possible names might have tallied more than 26 XBHs if given 300+ ABs but they weren't and so taking it out on Loney based on that reasoning is silly. And while I certainly have no issue if he's slotted behind guys like Flores and Kelly Johnson, I'm just having a heard time seeing the logic in him either off lists entirely or at the very bottom in back of likes of Ty Kelly and Brandon Nimmo.
  7. sharpie wrote: although how [Viola Davis for FENCES] qualifies as a supporting actress is beyond me. The promotional material for LION doesn't exactly paint Dev Patel as a supporting player either. Back in 1979 the Academy manipulated the rules by putting George Burns into the less competitive Supporting Actor category for GOING IN STYLE* in what certainly looked like a blatant attempt to arrange what was in effect a lifetime achievement award for the then 85 y/o. I'm sure it's happened other times as well although that's the only one that comes to mind. Maybe they're trying their hardest for an OSCARSNOTWHITEATALL hashtag. * a movie which is about to be remade with Alan Arkin, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine in the Burns, Art Carney, & Lee Strasberg roles
  8. sharpie wrote: Viola Davis' nod is for FENCES, not HIDDEN FIGURES ... That I got this wrong I believe makes me a racist; either that or the site I copied this off of made the mistake in which case they are and I'm in the clear. At least I didn't call it HIDDEN FENCES IN THE MOONLIGHT

  10. Stuff from various lists that I'm having trouble seeing: - Loney off, or at the very bottom of, several evaluations. As I mentioned elsewhere, no other player was as wildly over the map as Loney - top half of some lists, not listed at all on several others. And while he was certainly a comedown from Duda, he was still the starting 1st baseman for four months and not a bad one (fair to below average maybe, but not terrible). 350 AB guys usually have to be pretty terrible to get left off entirely and it's certainly odd to see him and his 703 OPS behind Ty Kelly and even lower OPS w/just 58 ABs. - Logan Verrett (5.20 ERA, 1.56 WHiP) ahead of Harvey (4.86, 1.47) in essentially the same number of IP. Henderson is well above Harvey on several lists as well. Yeah the Dark Knight was lousy and then out of the picture, but we shouldn't be grading on the curve here. - Rene Rivera shutout and way behind d'Arnaud despite similar stats and much better defense. Maybe that one was accidental (JCL)? - And, yeah, Neil Walker in 2nd place
  11. Revising my list: 30 - SYNDERGAARD 29 - CESPEDES 28 - CABRERA 27 - COLON 26 - deGROM 25 - GRANDERSON 24 - MATZ 23 - REED 22 - WALKER 21 - FAMILIA 20 - REYES 19 - FLORES 18 - LUGO 17 - GSELLMAN 16 - LONEY 15 - CONFORTO 14 - JOHNSON 13 - ROBLES 12 - R. RIVERA 11 - BLEVINS 10 - d'ARNAUD 9 - HARVEY 8 - TJ RIVERA 7 - WRIGHT 6 - DUDA 5 - BRUCE 4 - DE AZA 3 - SALAS 2 - HENDERSON 1 - VERRETT
  12. Schaefer was significantly lower than our emerging consensus (haven't added TMonk's vote yet) on Gsellman (9 slots lower), also Blevins (11), TJ Rivera (7), and Lagres (5). But our PotG votes were higher on Loney (+5), Harvey (9), DeAza (7), and Verrett (11) Not really sure what all that says. Schaefer tends to be a bit more erratic year by year than we as individuals are but I've never be able to suss out a particular pattern [low on relievers, too high on part-timers, etc.] to predict how it varies.
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Walker over cespedes? need to think about that one. Seems like Cespedes might be getting dinged a bit too much for the CF play when it was more of a desperation thing. There's just no fucking way Neil Walker was the best player on the Mets last year. I can't see him any higher than 3rd and even that's a stretch. To me he's neck and neck with Grandy for 3rd best offensive player. Then he drops from there depending on how many pitchers you want to slot ahead of him.
  14. Vic Sage wrote: Vic Sage is high on (well we won't know for sure until the lab comes back with the results) but also Lagares, Salas, Henderson, Kelly; low on Loney, Wright, Conforto, Flores, Reyes how can i be high on my rankings for Salas and Kelly when i didn't even include them? This makes me question your record-keeping. I DEMAND A RECOUNT! Yeah, not sure what happened there, maybe I was the one who was high. I seemed to have mis-copied only your list and even then only part of it - so at least the whole thing wasn't a mess. As it stands now, you're low on Loney, and then less so on Flores, Reyes, and d'Arnaud. Higher than most others on Lagares & Henderson.
  15. btw, if you do make adjustments to your list, re-print the list or at least point out what you changed. If you just re-edit the earlier post I probably won't see it.
  16. can we post the high/low/avg for each player so we can have a frame work for some debate? Like I said earlier, most of the variation is among the part-timers, those in the middle/bottom of the list. The top is more or less consistent. As of now, compared to the existing consensus: - EDGY is coming in high on Lagares, Salas, Ruggiano, and Kelly; low on Flores, Conforto, and is off the board on Loney & Wright - Nymr: high on Bruce & Wright; low on Reyes & Harvey - Vic Sage is high on (well we won't know for sure until the lab comes back with the results) but also Lagares, Salas, Henderson, Kelly; low on Loney, Wright, Conforto, Flores, Reyes - Seawolf is high on d'Arnaud, Henderson, Verrett; low on Gsellman, Harvey, Duda - JCL is a bit up on d'Arnaud & Harvey; low on R. Rivera (off the board) & Johnson - Grimm is high onDe Aza; down on d'Arnaud - Ceetar is up on Walker, Harvey, Lagares, De Aza; low on Blevins, Loney (off the board), Flores None of that means you're wrong about those listed, only that you're higher or lower than the pack on those particular guys.
  17. I'm going to say the end of January for this one. So if you still want to contribute and/or change/update an existing submission, do so by the close of January or forever hold your peace.
  18. Yeah, I have to rethink a few things. I wanted to get a list together and put it up there but may have rushed things a bit. The part-timers are always the toughest call and we as a group are all over the map with some of them. - Conforto is a high as 9th place and as low and 24th - Gsellman is 12th to 22nd (although that 22 is the PotY results which tend to vary from opinion votes) - Johnson: 14th to 26th - Loney: 13th best on one ballot but also dead last in one and off the board entirely in another - d'Arnaud: anywhere between middle of the pack down to 29th - Rene Rivera is off the board in one case - Lagares is off the board in several cases and middle of the pack in others - Wright is not on a couple lists yet as high as 15th - ditto Verrett - and we have a couple of Ty Kelly, Ruggiano, and Salas votes that are considerably higher than the pack
  19. 30 - SYNDERGAARD 29 - CESPEDES 28 - CABRERA 27 - COLON 26 - deGROM 25 - GRANDERSON 24 - WALKER 23 - REED 22 - FAMILIA 21 - MATZ 20 - REYES 19 - FLORES 18 - LONEY 17 - LUGO 16 - GSELLMAN 15 - CONFORTO 14 - JOHNSON 13 - ROBLES 12 - R. RIVERA 11 - d'ARNAUD 10 - BLEVINS 9 - HARVEY 8 - T. J. RIVERA 7 - DUDA 6 - BRUCE 5 - HENDERSON 4 - VERRETT 3 - GOEDDEL 2 - DE AZA 1 - WRIGHT
  20. I was considering seeing this, as I wondered how this story went unknown for so long, but then even some of its own ads made it seem a bit too cutesy. Probably will wait until it hits cable this summer.
  21. I haven't looked at the pitchers yet, but my thinking on positions players thus far is ... CESPEDES - the most dynamic even if not the most consistent CABRERA - when the 2nd best offensive player on the team is also the SS he’s going to be near the top of the list GRANDERSON - once again another slow start followed by a bigger finish, but his atrocious RiSP hitting keeps him out of the top echelon WALKER - a power-hitting, switch-hitting, middle-infielder … he led the team in hyphens REYES - just what the team needed when it needed him FLORES - if only he’d quit getting injured right when regular playing time is staring him in the face LONEY - was the perfect fill-in and, for a while anyway, gave more than we could have expected JOHNSON - a replay of 2015, not a great player but a useful fill-in who seems to get a bunch of timely hits CONFORTO - was on the verge of stardom in April, then faced Bumgarner on May 1st and hasn’t been the same since R. RIVERA - that his defensive edge gave him, the spare part, playing time down the stretch over two touted prospects says something although only partly about himself d’ARNAUD - worst run creator on the team … except of course for all the other catchers TJ RIVERA - not sure he’ll ever be a regular, but he at least worked his way into the conversation DUDA - wound up with too few ABs to make much of a contribution BRUCE - wound up with too few hits to make much of a contribution DE AZA - turned useful in the 2nd half, now if only that 1st half weren’t so god-swful WRIGHT - contributed walks & HRs while he was in there … which is something even if not much REYNOLDS - v - NIMMO - Reynolds wins this battle for 11 XBHs vs 2 and for positional value out of the running: LAGARES, CAMPBELL, PLAWECKI, KELLY, RUGGIANO, CECCHINI
  22. Mr. #28 is missing. Or at least somebody is.
  23. Not since last year.
  24. A little delayed this year, but still time for your 2016 NYM Rankings. You know the drill; top 30 by whatever method you choose, just be prepared to defend your position. This past year's cast of characters: [u:1wuh97j0]Position Players[/u:1wuh97j0] (by most ABs) GRANDERSON — CABRERA — CESPEDES — WALKER — LONEY CONFORTO — FLORES — REYES — d’ARNAUD — DE AZA R. RIVERA — JOHNSON — BRUCE — DUDA — WRIGHT LAGARES — PLAWECKI — TJ RIVERA — REYNOLDS — CAMPBELL NIMMO — KELLY — RUGGIANO — CECCHINI [u:1wuh97j0]Pitchers[/u:1wuh97j0] (by IP) COLON — SYNDERGAARD — deGROM — MATZ — HARVEY VERRETT — FAMILIA — REED — ROBLES — LUGO GSELLMAN — BASTARDO — BLENINS — GOEDDEL — HENDERSON MONTERO — YNOA — GILMARTIN — SALAS — SMOKER NIESE — EDGIN
  25. Raising six kids out in the woods, off the grid, and very far from the mainstream, has upside to it but also some complications and, surprisingly, not all extended family members approve. Wow! Whoda thunk that? Viggo Mortensen and Frank Langella star, plus a bunch of rug rats.
