He could be a knucklehead but there was a purity to it, his feuds with "Rich" were awesome fun And, in truth, those were mostly RK's fault. SC annoyed the hell out of him but it was Rick's overreactions to SC's occasional knuckleheadedness which started the (mostly one-way) feud. For a time there I was looking for an opportunity to invite RK out on a bike ride. He and I were both regular riders in those days and he lived just a few towns away and right on my way to the Jones Beach bikeway. He clearly had a lot of anger issues, although none of them were at me, and I thought he needed to vent. Never got around to it though. Pity.
  2. =Centerfield post_id=14952 time=1562164857 user_id=65]There was no anger. No vitriol. None of the animosity seen on social media. Brodie Van Wagenen sat with Mets fans for the first half of Tuesday's 4-2 Subway Series victory over the Yankees, and was treated like a conquering hero.... At one point, Mets fans chanted “Brodie, Brodie, Brodie.” One told him he should run for mayor. Another said: “He's the MVP.”
  3. =metirish post_id=14947 time=1562157613 user_id=72] The Diaz to Ramos bobble was a great way to end it
  4. =kcmets post_id=14930 time=1562120860 user_id=53] I forget sometimes I've paused 5-7 minutes.
  5. Edgy MD wrote: Ends a Yankee streak of 31 games with a homer. THIS AIN'T LONDON, HOMIES!! One thing GKR didn't mention in talking about McNeil's hustle to hold Aaron Hicks to a double is that Hicks kind of posed for a few seconds - probably thinking that he was in a different park in the city and that his hit was 17 rows deep. Not in Queens it ain't A-A-Ron.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Nice juggling act Wilson! A catcher can NOT play a foul tip off his body and still get credit for Strike 3, but that one went glove-hand-glove so it counts.
  7. I wouldn't overturn it based on what I've seen ... but I've seen worse calls flipped. Not sure what the Yanx were thinking there.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: Hech should be staying in to play second maybe. Except that it would slot the pitcher into the (Cano's) 5th slot, also the 5th slot in bottom 9 if necessary.
  9. C'mon Diaz, you've got one good game in a row. Don't ruin your streak.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: Do you really need to bring the infield in to keep Ramos at third on a grounder? Only semi-in at most. But they were in in. Coupla tack-on runs would have been nice there.
  11. Mr. Conforto, please report to the office to pick up your redemption.
  12. Mr. Conforto, please report to the office to pick up your redemption for the day.
  13. Maybe Ottovino should change his number to 1 Do I hear 2?
  14. The one I thought of was Daryl Kile (StL) since he also died on the road in the team's hotel room and at about the same age. That one turned out to have drugs involved although I forget the details at this point. oe: Kile was 33
  15. I don't want to say that Justin Wilson has been gone for a long time ... but I had no idea what he looked like. John Sterling, btw, is about to break his long streak on Yanqui radio. He hasn't missed a game since he was hired (early '90s?) but will skip their upcoming trip to Tampa
  16. So our .300+ hitting pitcher can't bunt, and their non-hitting pitcher does it perfectly twice.
  17. McNeil's foot speed forced Paxton to actually retire three batters in the third ... although, when you think about it, one was on a bad bunt by someone trying to make an out so he's really only had to retire six batters so far this game. And Wheeler is at five innings worth of throws w/2 outs in the 4th
  18. Damn! Not a great average (.258) but 34 of his 57 hits went for extra bases: 17 2Bs + 17 HRs
  19. So now thru two innings Paxton has only had to retire four batters. And so it goes.
  20. 53 pitches to get thru 2 innings even though these peckerheads haven't hit a ball hard yet.
