That it's not a straight-forward bio-pic -- and seems to be getting better than average reviews -- means I might check this one out, maybe while it's still in Thee-Ay-Ters or down the road via DVD/cable. Still have yet to see 'Bo-Rhap' for essentially the opposite reasons. And if the highlight of the film is a remake of the LIVE-AID performance then I can just check-out a video of the actual LIVE-AID performance.

I haven't seen many DD films either, although I'm not sure that NOT watching them constitutes a sheltered childhood. In fact, one could argue that it's kind of the opposite. There's an old joke concerning Doris and the studio-created chaste image that served her for many roles and many years. I can't remember now to whom it was first attributed, but whoever it was claimed that; 'I knew Doris Day before she was a virgin'.

My local theatre had 41 showings of this film today, starting at 8:30 AM with the final one at 11:50 tonight. 37 regular plus 4 more in 3D Looks like only 38 time/screen choices on the docket for Sunday But I'm on team FMan on this one, the appeal of these superhero films eludes me. And, let's face it, I highly doubt this movie is going to be the 'endgame' of anything.

Saw this like a million years ago -- so long ago that Mickey Rourke was still thin, and recognizable, and not crazy (or at least less outwardly crazy). I remember liking it at the time but can't say now that I remember enough to comment on it or give a rating. Not sure I even remember what its 'most famous line' is.

Yeah, although saying that a guy who does this sort of stuff for fun is a bit of an odd duck seems kind of unnecessary. Mostly what he seems to be is totally emotion-less, but I suppose that trait is pretty much a prerequisite.

Yeah, that metal supply company building was a pre-existing structure with landmark (or something akin to it) status so the stadium was built around it. So where as you'd normally set home plate where you want it and adjust everything around that, in this case everything radiated out from the corner of the building which, because it's not square to the field, doubles as the left-field pole.

Saw roughly the front half of it. Agreed that the non-host wasn't even an issue and probably helped in some ways. None of the lame pre-planned bits (selfies, people off the street, etc) which seem overly-forced. I have fun making predictions and am often right considering I only sometimes have seen the movies, but here I thought Glenn Close was the biggest lock of the night. Spike got his screenplay win but loses best picture to a black/white driver/passenger movie for the second time: Do The Right Thing/Driving Miss Daisy and now Klansman/Green Book

The whole concert scenes thing seems to be both the strength and weakness of the movie: if the recreated live scenes are good, you could save yourself the rest of the movie by just hauling the actual 'Live Aid' concert video with the actual Freddie Mercury up via YOUTUBE

Saw it shortly after it first came out. But aside from the obvious parallels to apartheid, I can't really say I recall much beyond that.

Usually I just don't get around to seeing most of the nominated flicks, at least not in time to have a pre-award opinion. And that's certainly on me. But it's tough to remember a year in which I just plain had so little interest in seeing most of them. “Black Panther” -- heard it's good, but I always hear superhero movies are good and I always like them less than seemingly the rest of the planet “BlacKkKlansman” -- Actually have the DVD at home so this will be the first one I get to. True story, interesting subject ... so why do I get the opinion it's going to be simplistically one dimensional “Bohemian Rhapsody” -- oooh, a bio-pic about a guy who died young. And to make it authentic we gave the actor fake teeth! “The Favourite” -- high society ladies being mean and manipulative towards each other. Next! “Green Book” -- put two strangers in a confined area over a period of time and they'll both iron out their polar opposite differences and solve racism at the same time. OK, it's probably better than that but that was my opinion upon first seeing the trailer some six months ago and I'm having a hard time shaking it. “Roma” -- ton of critical acclaim although I don't know the first thing about it “A Star Is Born” -- if you see just one fourth remake this year ... “Vice” -- looks cartoonishly and gratuitously nasty
