  1. And Tejada's legs pay off!!!!!
  2. A rare successful bunt by Lagares and I STILL wish he hadn't done it.
  3. Lots of injury news this week. In the division, David Robertson, who has barely pitched most of the year anyway, has NOW just had Tommy John surgery knocking him out for the remainder of this year and next. He'll turn 36 y/o by opening week 2021 so it's possible that his career is essentially over right now. Also, Jake Arrieta needs bone spurs removed from his elbow meaning that his 2019 season is done. Elsewhere, Chis Sale of the BoSox in IL'd with 'elbow inflammation' and has an appointment with Dr. James Andrews. Only about a zillion dollars still owed to him thru 2025 And concerning Pete Alosnso for ROY news, Fernando Tatis Jr [.317/.379/.590] has been dealing with a 'back issue' and now is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
  4. And O'Neill, of course, was one of the YES Yappers complaining that the umps were the ones on the lookout for a fight. Which, btw, they very well may have been doing just that. But it's just the attitude in the Bronx where, because Yanqui hitters are such "savages" at the plate (Boone's description) all borderline calls that don't go the Yanquis' way means that the umps, not the players, are by definition the ones who are wrong. Gardner, who wasn't even the guy called out on the pitch, nevertheless went childishly banging on the dugout roof with a bat afterward which got him tossed by the 1st base ump who, prior to that, wasn't even involved in the argument.
  5. Brewers @ Nats winds up 15-14 to the Brew Crew in 14 innings/5:40 11 HRs (4 MIL, 7 WAS), 38 Hits (18, 20), 31 K (13, 18), and 18 Walks were issued by 19 Pitchers as neither starter (Lyles, Sanchez) was around for the 5th inning And, in a funny twist of fate, the game was both won and lost by J. Guerra (Junior, Javy). I guess the game really was an all-out war! We somehow continue to NOT have the worst closer in the division as Sean Doolittle came in with a 3-run lead in the 9th and went: HR, 2B, HR, HR to his first four batters!! But then even long-haired lefty Josh Hader couldn't close out the bottom of the inning and they were off to extras. Both teams scored in the 13th, then Brews scored twice in top 14 and the Nats could only come back with one as pitcher Joe Ross K'd with 2-on/2-out while pinch-hitting for pitcher Javy Guerra In the rest of the WC race: Cubs won, Braves beat Dodgers, Reds over Cards (or are we calling them the Cads now?), Phils lost, Giants won but beat the DBacks in the process. So it's: WAS +1.5 Cubs --- (who are technically in 2nd place by percentage points to StL) __________________ Brewers -1.0 Phils -1.0 Mets -2.0 Giants -2.5 Snakes -4.5 Communists -6.5 Spanish Fathers -7.5 Western Mountains -9.0 Oh, and the Yanx went #Savagemode again yesterday, getting three guys tossed out of the game over a borderline strike three call in the 6th inning of a game they were winning (and won). Boone, Gardner, and Sabathia (who wasn't even playing) were tossed by multiple umpires. YES announcers thought it was all a disgrace. I believe it was Gardner's 78th ejection this season although I'll have to double-check the records to be sure.
  6. Long drive by KC to CF ... but we got a man there.
  7. Lagares having hisself a week!
  8. Gotta cash in on this inning. Baserunners in the game: Mets = 10, KCR = 3 ... and yet the game is tied. Aside from the rule where we're not allowed to win Jacob deGrom games, there's no reason why this should continue.
  9. Newberry & Hill warming up in the Royals pen. My heart, for one, is going boom, boom, boom.
  10. Once again our opponents are bunching their hits (and their walks and their errors) while NYM bats are unbunching theirs. Starting with the Atlanta games, the Mets have out-hit their opponents 36-25 but have been out-scored 18-16 in the process. 13/52 w/RiSP along with hitting into 11 DPs in those 4-1/2 games hasn't helped.
  11. The only surprise thus far in top 9 is that the game didn't end on a GiDP
  12. Here's an idea for Diaz that he might want to try at some point: How 'bout retiring ONE batter. It would be a start anyway.
  13. THE most predictable result of the season. We also would have accepted 'Bases-clearing double'
  14. And now we're just going to remove any doubt before even getting to the 9th.
  15. I can't believe we're going to lose this fucking game. Too many wasted opportunities early and absolutely shit since.
  16. The 'Pine Tar Rag', was that Scott Joplin? Probably so seeing as how they're in Missouri
  17. Keeping our DP roll going -- Three DPs last night (one in the air, two on the ground) and now three more already tonight (one in the air, two on the ground) -- which, not surprisingly, results in our large on-base advantage [5 hits + 1 BB + 1 HBP + 1 Reached on Error --vs-- 1 hit + 1 BB] translating into only a small edge on the scoreboard.

He sounds like someone who actually didn't know that (rather than just conflated them for some reason) but is spouting "facts" in order to make himself sound knowledgable on the subject. But either way, keeping track of G Apple's mistakes just so far in this game will take a spreadsheet. That's American history. How does nobody in the booth let him know? I suspect it's because they'd rather pretend it didn't happen than bring it up and further embarrass the substitute teacher when half the students are already making fun of him.
  19. End of 4 innings and we're just over one hour into the game. At this point in last night's game they had barely reached the top of the 2nd.
  20. =kcmets post_id=19085 time=1566002033 user_id=53] Has entire series off.

  22. Hamilton OPS'd 648 during his first full season, the above-noted ROY silver medal year of 2014, although his SB success that year was actually sub-par [56 in 79 attempts - 70.8%]. The running kicked into gear after that [57 of 65, 58 of 66] but only once since then did he match that rookie year OPS despite playing all or most of the time. Mostly he's gotten just a bit worse w/the bat each season -- OPS = 664, 634, 626 -- until crashing and burning down to 544 this year w/KC You gotta feel that some contending team will pick him up when rosters expand in September figuring that his pinch-running and/or late inning defense skills just might win them a game or two down the stretch. After that though I suspect that this is probably the end of the line for this unique, though limited, talent despite not turning 29 until next month. But .211/.275/.269 [305 PA] just ain't gonna cut it, even if that bat comes with golden feet and flashy leather.
  23. So, not a great night on Thursday for the Cubby bullpen either. Up 5-0 with 1 out in the 8th they bring in something named Rowan Wick. Never heard of him; 26 y/o, twenty-some ML IP He allows an inherited runner to score but get the final two outs of the frame, albeit with one of them thrown out trying to score the 2nd run on a hit. So it's 5-1 heading into bottom 9, Wick still in. Wick: -- FO, E-6, Single, Infield Single. So he's not exactly being hit all over the park, but now a second run is in and on comes Pedro Strop to replace Wick (these sound like medieval weapons). Strop: -- Another Infield Single (now 5-3) followed by a HBP. Bags are now loaded; out goes Strop and in comes newly acquired (off waiver wire) Derek Holland Holland: -- Bryce Harper Walk-Off Grand Slam
  24. Between the reports that Dansby Swanson (still sounds like he should be in a polo lineup rather than a baseball one) isn't progressing in his rehab very quickly combined with the less than stellar defensive efforts they've been getting (and we've been seeing) at the 6-spot from Charlie Culberson and Johan Camargo, I suppose this isn't a surprise. Hech can't hit like those two but he also doesn't treat grounders as if he's a human pin-ball bumper either.
  25. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Michael Conforto is likely to eventually knock Edgardo Alfonzo out of the tenth slot. Just like Wright was likely to knock Darryl out of the top spot. Cue the diagnosis of Nepalese Striped Fever: Three, Two, ...
