  1. I suspect it's been more than a few years since a pitcher has topped 100 ABs in a season now that we're in the era of 30 or fewer starts/year and 3 or fewer ABs/per
  2. Braves started the 5th inning with a 1-0 lead and a no-hitter going (Ian Anderson). By the time that half-inning was done, 13 batters had faced three different hurlers, seen some 80 pitches! (yes, really) over what had to be at least half an hour, the Dodgers were 8-1 After more than 2-1/2 hours in, they're just now starting the top of the 6th
  3. While we're toiling away out west ... -- Braves host the Dodgers -- Phils host Nats -- Marlins are in Pittsburgh (series started Thursday with a Pirate win) -- and the Sawx are in the Bronx (guess who's on ESPN SNB this week?)
  4. The AAA game between Durham & Norfolk was suspended last night after Durham Rays pitcher Tyler Zombro was hit in the head with a line drive. He is listed in stable condition at Duke University Madical Center.

The withering criticism that the NFL will come under for this will force them to ... Who are we kidding here? This will go unmentioned by those whose job it supposedly is to cover the league.
  6. Braves won this afternoon so they wound up splitting that four game set with the Nationals. Yanx lost to TBR earlier which means that four-gamer ended in a split as well ... somewhat of a moral victory for the Yanx considering how hot the Rays were coming in and how much they had dominated NYY over the past few years. The downside for the Yanx is that this was a Gerrit Cole game [5 ER thru 5 IP] and a competitive season from them means winning all or most of his starts.
  7. There was a virus goin' 'round / lots of people caught it and died last spring
  8. Dodgers put up up an 11-spot on the Cards in the 1st inning Wednesday night.
  9. Or at least in Atlanta to which they'd have likely flown Delta.

The really sad part about this "joke" is that I've been waiting four seasons to use it. First conceived of back in 2018, y'know what keeps you from using the line on June 3rd? Having a near fatal heart attack on June 2nd, that's what! So you hold onto it until 2019 but the Mets were off that day. No worries, I'll just use it in 2020 ... until a fuckin global pandemic knocks out baseball for not just 6/3 but the entire month of June. It's a long time to hold on to an extremely mediocre reference, I know, but the longer it took the more determined I was to finally get a chance to cash it in.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: I think Frayed Knot's defining old white guy moment came when it described Blastings Thrilledge pursuing a fly ball while wearing a cross "only a little smaller than the True Cross." I don't recall that particular comment but I'll take your word for it. The only distinction I'd make is that I'd say the same thing if I saw a white OF'er with a hunk of chain flapping from chest to face as he ran. Besides, I was a much younger man when Milledge was playing.
  12. Speaking racial profiling, the NFL has now pledged to stop the practice of racial "baselining", that's the one where black players (ie., most of their league) had a tough time qualifying for settlement money for concussion related dementia and other issues because they were assumed to start out with lower levels of cognitive function in the first place therefore making loss of function more difficult to prove. And keep in mind that they haven't actually ended this practice, only that they've now pledged to do so. And that this pledged didn't come in 1968 or sometime 'round about the turn of this century but EARLIER TODAY
  13. IGT 6/3/2021 Another sleepy, dusty, delta day.
  14. OK, a sweep in the desert would have been nice, but no disgrace in taking Only five of seven from the weak sisters of the NL West
  15. Definitely a decrease in agita on grounders hit at Lindor vs recent NYM SSs
  16. Villar should be under V Put R-mando Benitez as the R
  17. Colin Mi-Que And Shawn Ess-tess works better than Lagar-Ess

(NOTE: That's his handle, not my assessment, it's his name, he chose it, I am quoting it, I think, verbatim.) There's an entire world out there of 'Internet Celebrity' with which I am totally unfamiliar, as in unfamiliar with the whos and with the whys.

  20. And that's going to bring everyone... to another base You can't get that kind of analysis just anywhere.
  21. ... In 2019, [brenley] said that “it might be easier to run the bases if he didn't have that bike chain around his neck,” about Fernando Tatis Jr. Shyeeet, I've said that a ton of times about multiple players over the years.
  22. Mets' odds of a big inning are Mantiplying here.
  23. William McKin[CROSSOUT]l[/CROSSOUT]ney really assassinated that pitch.
