    Cubs have a 9 - 0 lead in the 5th against Milwaukee and have hit five HRs so far. None as of yet from PC-A who is 0/4. Tyrone Taylor has one though!

    How does Yandy Diaz Not challenge one or both of those borderline pitches?!?!? (one at the top of the zone, the other at the bottom) Rays had both challenges remaining and go into the clubhouse with an 'L' around their neck and both challenges sitting in their collective pocket. The Mets, meanwhile, challenged a pitch at least 4 inches above the zone seemingly just because they could.

    If that bouncer/botched GiDP to Lindor remains scored as a hit then just do away with the classification of 'Error' altogether because it has lost all meaning. If the inning-ending ball had gone off Morel's glove, as it very nearly did, that would have been the fourth NYM glove to touch the ball in the same inning without actually gloving it [the hot shot off Bichette's AND Lindor's glove; the bouncer off Lindor's; and very nearly off Morel's] and, sadly, all the runs scored as a result (likely at least three) would have gone down as 'Earned'.

    It was kind of odd for them to deal away Adley Rutschman at the trade deadline then pick up Robert for $5 mil for less than four weeks (plus playoffs?). It could work out for them as LR Jr is as good now as he's been all year (and maybe in a couple of years) so, like the Mets, the O's are taking a shot that he'll be an occasional difference maker in a handful of crucial games. Their bet on him is just a whole lot shorter than the one the Mets did. and, btw, Luisangel = .237/.268/.273 in over 200 PAs which is ... not good. I mean the .237 is low enough. But to have the OBA just 31 points above the BA means he's walking at less than half the rate of ML average (65 to 70 is around avg) and to slug just 36 points above the BA is to not slug at all. He has 46 hits this year and 41 of them are singles. And then there's the 40 K vs 8 BBs The good news is that he's only 24. The bad is that hitting like that might not allow him to stay in baseball much longer if it doesn't pick up.

    Yanx wound up taking three of four from the BoSox dropping Boston 4 G back (and winning the season series in case of tie-breaker stuff). So at this point Boston needs to worry more about being caught from behind than they do about catching NYY. And in Wrigley PC-A just led off the bottom of the 1st with another HR. That's 37 on the season (and 4th in his last 7 ABS). His previous two+ seasons added up to 41 HRs. At the rate he's going he might reach that mark by Wednesday or Thursday. And with Ohtani's pitching career on the shelf for the time being, the MVP race tilts PC-A's way more every day. Cubs/Reds are NBC's Sunday Night game. Not sure why they had two today but they appear to have four bodies jammed into the TV booth for this one. I recognized Rizzo and Votto. Not sure who the other two are.

    This kind of stuff is all very lookup-able. Innings 1 - 3: .228 / .293 / .338 // 631 Innings 4 - 6: .252 / .317 / .409 // 726 Innings 7 - 9: .222 / .301 / .360 // 661 Looks mostly like random variation rather than any kind of predictable pattern.

    Well of course every NFL game is done by one of the networks so they all have set teams in place to cover each game. I think NBC is just trying something different by using 'local' guys who 'know' the teams involved, maybe because it's been so long since they had a full-time working crew in place. And I didn't mean to imply that the analysts du jour are expected to root for one side, more like they're there to provide semi-insider knowledge. In this case Zeile certainly knows the current Mets. Whether some of these other choices are as connected to the squads they once played for or not probably varies.

    Two runs without a ball leaving the IF: K, walk, HBP, muffed come-backer*, 3U + E3 (2 runs), K * is an easy inning-ending GiDP if he lets it go

    Bichette (double) gets the first hit since Bichette got a single two spins of the lineup earlier. But then no one after him can get the ball out of the infield so no runs. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

    Well that's a kick in the Pintaros. Wade has four, now five, HRs in his last 350+ PAs across 2025 & '26. Mets still have just three hits after getting three by their first three batters.

    A two-base 'steal' without a slide at either base for Ewing. Clearly he's not a 'dirty uniform' kind of guy.

    Well, the NFL has never been adverse to three-man booths although now it seems they've returned to two-man crews almost exclusively, most likely because the color man is now a **STAR** ex-player ('We've got Brady, 'We've got Aikman') whom the network wants to feature to the point where he's getting better pay now compared to when he was playing. That said, football essentially invented the 'sideline reporter' role and now has at least two per game (one on each side) as well as an ex-ref nearby who's called upon wherever there's a rules/replay question (which is about every third play) so there are often five voices chiming in from time to time although the other three only when they're called upon (raise your hand first!!). Burkhardt was the first time I remember a 'sideline' guy being used in baseball but most local broadcasts have one now. Not in my opinion, no..

    And of course the real problem with a three+ man booth on the network is that all of them are encouraged to talk all the time. The old phrase 'Silence is Golden' becomes 'Silence is Forbidden'. G-K-R works well because no one is in competition to out-talk the others. Gary calls the action while K & R defer to him and then chime in if/when they have something to say rather than merely because Gary stopped. It also helps when the two color guys have known each other for 40+ years instead of just meeting earlier this weekend*. * OK, I don't know whether that's true or not but if you told me that Zeile & Blum have worked together even five times in their lives I'd bet the 'Under'.

    Three in the booth itself, and then CC Sabathia is sitting in the front row somewhere with a headset on chiming in wherever they throw it to him. NBC, in its first season doing MLB in a while, has opted to go with one p-b-p guy plus a non-permanent rotating crew of color commentators, one each with ties to the two teams playing that particular day. So Zeile is 'representing' the Mets for today with Geoff Blum carrying the flag for the Astros. For decades this sport managed to present the game, even on network telecasts, almost exclusively on two man booths: Curt Gowdy/Tony Kubek, Scully/Garagiola, Buck/McCarver. Keith Jackson/Cosell, etc.. Now it seems that none of them can survive with fewer than four.

    There's no longer any 'waiver trades' in the way there used to be so it's not like the Mets are free to trade him if/when he clears waivers. Now either some club claims a waiver player or his existing club retains him, there aren't any other options - except outright releasing him I guess but they could do that without all this theater. So any club who claims Louie Bobby assumes his contract for the pro rated portion of this season ($3 mil-ish) plus either the $2 mil buyout for next year or the $20 mil for his 2027 contract. The list of teams who both see Robert as someone valuable enough for their stretch drive/post season to be willing to pay between $5 and $23 million for the privilege is somewhere between few and none. iow, he'll be a Met for the rest of this year. Cincy did the same with Eugenio Suarez and T.J. Freidl last week, No team touched either.

    No evidence of that. Christenson did win his ML debut vs the Mets (4/13/73) with a complete game 5-hitter in a 7-1 PHI win And in 1976 he beat the Mets five times while holding them to one run or less in each including twice in back-to-back starts: 5/19 - 6 IP, 4-1 PHI win 5/24 - CG, 5-1 PHI win 7/26 - 6 IP, 4-1 PHI win 7/31 - 5.2 IP, 2-1 PHIL win 9/5 - 8.1 IP, 3-1 PHI win The 101 win Phils went 13 - 5 against those bicentennial (86 - 76) Mets.

    No way that's interference in my book. oe: and it's not Yeah, Gary, he went past the base, but not until after the throw was away. Let's not get too picky about that sort of thing.

    I think at worst he's half of a 1B/DH platoon plus a defensive replacement (depending on who the other half is) and a dangerous late bat off the bench.
