  1. Just speculating, but Stroman is cocky so probably said something to provoke that.
  2. No, Gary. The DH does NOT "create another job" it merely replaces one with a different one.
  3. 4-1/2 innings worth of pitches just to get thru 3 for Stroman isn't helping matters either.
  4. Have they designated the GiDP guy for this inning yet or are they just playing it by ear?
  5. Kuhl (and his gang) keep trying to give us runs but we keep giving those opps back.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Gary claims that it always rains when the Mets are in Pittsburgh. And even in absentia, Gary makes the correct call. Now we have to see if we lose Stroman to another rain-csused short outing.
  7. =kcmets post_id=71518 time=1626476618 user_id=53] He had a long run in BAL, his google stuff says 'was' an Orioles guy so...
  8. Is Gary T. not doing Orioles games anymore? Will Keith also call him 'Gar'?
  9. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=71502 time=1626469433 user_id=68] Assuming for the sake of this post that the media does not have the right to publicize a person's medical records without that person's consent, ESPN could be liable for reporting private and confidential medical information that another news outlet already reported. One could even make the legal argument that ESPN should bear even greater liability if its circulation is far greater than that of the original broadcaster.
  10. If ESPN is merely reporting on things already reported by others (which is what they often do while trying to claim credit as the source anyway) then they couldn't be held responsible for crossing the lines no matter what the rules are. Newly on the NYY Covid IL are Judge, Higoshioka, and Urshela. Neither of the other two were in Denver this week AFAIK
  11. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=71494 time=1626467138 user_id=68] Mike Puma tweets that deGrom will start on Sunday. Why's that?
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: Marcus Stroman goes against someone not named Marcus Stroman, and in fact not named at all by the Pirates to this point. Pirates playing it cool tonight ... Chad Kuhl 28 y/o from Newark DE and U of Del. 9th round draft 2013 by the Bucs RH, 11 starts this season, 2-5; 4.73; 1.36 WHIP Did not pitch against the Mets in the pre-ASB series
  13. I think we'll bend the rules of TWiB for this week and make this our July 11 - 18 thread as baseball 2021 re-opens with a half-week's worth of games. Philly hosting Miami for 2 today (starting NOW!!!) Nats host the Padres (Fedde & Paddack) Braves also at home with TBR in town (Morton & Wacha) Boston @ Yanx is apparently on for tonight although it's possible that the tears flowing from Bristol, CT over losing that matchup yesterday on one of the slowest TV/sports nights of the year might still run downhill towards the Bronx and cause a postponement. Twins were in Detroit for two today ... already postponed, so those two will be deep into DH-ville at some timed TBD
  14. The only NYM article of clothing I own is a Blue/Orange, velcro-closure visor which a) I have no idea how I came into possession of such a thing (probably an in-game give-away although, if so, I don't remember it) and I never wear seeing as how I'm not a 'hat guy' So it's on a shelf and gets dusted off every once in a while. But if I ever need to grab a lid for some reason it'll definitely be my go-to choice.
  15. 11 HRs for Joc in the 1st half (and a sub-par OPS+) So what are we expecting for the next 2+ months for Atlanta? I'm thinking 20 dingers with about a 900 OPS.
  16. Didn't seem to lose any flexibility as he aged.
  17. By saying "not all" he's not naming anyone because that phrase could mean anything from just one of that group isn't vaccinated, to all five aren't, or anywhere in between.
  18. Gary claims that it always rains when the Mets are in Pittsburgh.
  19. Lemme tell you something you young whippersnappers, when I was a kid they played baseball games on All-Star week Thursday, not like these sissies playing today. Mets & Pirates finish up their 7/11 season series (7 games spread across 11 days). Celebratory Slurpees* will be consumed in honor, hopefully three of them. Marcus Stroman goes against someone not named Marcus Stroman, and in fact not named at all by the Pirates to this point. * old-timers will get this reference
  20. Yeah, San Jose is one of the potential locales that has been scuttled by in-fighting. It would be a shame if they left as, after years if not decades of turmoil, Oakland seems to be a city on the rebound these days.
  21. Not that I'm in favor of the passive/aggressive sort of threats that are placed on cities to build and rebuild palaces for already rich guys, but some of this is on Oakland as well. Every suggested location for a new crib seems to either get NIMBY'd out of existence or dies a slow death due to red-tape suffocation before even getting to the part about who pays what percentage. Nassau County did this with the Coliseum for years if not decades with the added wrinkle of power brokers bickering over how all the graft was going to get divided. That last part may or may not be part of Oakland's problem but, big city politics being what it is, it wouldn't surprise me if it were.
  22. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=71312 time=1626223544 user_id=68]... insofar as Rojas ruled out deGrom for this Friday, I'm wondering if the Mets aren't concealing a new minor injury or flareup involving deGrom?
  23. I doubt it was anywhere near as calculated as all that. You say this is the one time of year for them to talk about baseball but they don't anyway. The HRD is the one DAY of the year they focus on baseball because it's a property they own and that kind of 'non-event event' is the sort of thing that's right up their alley. They think last night was the highlight of the bb season. S.A.S. is merely doing what every other ESPN "personality" does which is to find a way to tell everyone how baseball gets it wrong, and in this case he's saying that it hurts the sport when the hot new thing in town doesn't speak English well enough to 'connect' with fans. For a guy like Smith, whose main focus is the star-driven entity that is the NBA, 'star power' is the lens through which he's going to see things. Now granted it's a stupid take, but I doubt it was all that calculated and at least it wasn't as stupid as Colin Cowherd saying (maybe two-three years back) "if baseball is supposedly so complicated how come Dominicans are so good at it".
  24. Saw parts of the first round. Was asleep by the second.
  25. But you also don't draft for immediate need at the major league level either and you keep making references to handedness and/or positions based on a snapshot of the ML club as it exists at the moment. But only a small percentage of these picks (all teams) are ever going to play in the majors and those who do are usually one to four seasons away when the makeup/mgmt/philosophy of the club could be very different the way it is now. Additionally, a good chunk of those who do make it will play only fleetingly and often for neither the organization that drafts them nor at the position they currently play. The best way to go about things it to take the best overall player available with your top pick then repeat that as often as possible. Any resulting issues will sort themselves out over time.
