  1. Not a problem though, it's just Ohtani and Freeman coming up as go-ahead runs w/tying runs on base.
  2. Chance for three outs = one We hit IF grounders in two GiDP situations and LAD turns two DPs (4 outs) They hit IF grounders in two GiDP situations and NYM turns neither. (1 out)
  3. Let him at least start the 8th sez I. Thru seven on about 6-1/2 innings worth of pitches (98). Doesn't look like they will, though. Nor does it look like we're going to get any more hits in the near future.
  4. My first guess of the day for TEX/.300 was Toby Harrah. I remembered the 1982 season when he was hitting .400 at the end of April, just shy of .390 at the end of May, and still over .350 as July began en route to a season where his BA would fall to .304 but still a career year even as he just missed a .300/400/.500 line [.304/.398/.490] w/58 XBH. And while he wasn't voted onto the starting eight that year (on account of George Brett also being an AL 3rd sacker) he was a reserve so it became a controversy when AL mgr Billy Martin made him the only player not to enter the game despite his ongoing great career season. Harrah wound up playing in 162 games that year but couldn't get into that one. Martin had managed the Rangers a few years earlier and there were rumors of friction between the two. Of course everyone had friction with Billy sooner or later so this was just typical two-bit pettiness from him. What I didn't remember was that Harrah was playing for Cleveland by '82, not Texas, and it turns out he never hit .300 for the Rangers ... so, Strike One! I didn't feel like playing after that ... so I didn't.
  5. Among a long list of other stuff which hasn't gone right so far this year, yesterday's game was our sixth rainout of the season, a season which started exactly two months ago today ... with a rainout!
  6. =metirish post_id=156846 time=1716899667 user_id=72] I've always got the feeling that Angel was actually well liked within the game , not his game calling the last several years , but him personally
  7. So with Joe West and now Angel Hernandez gone, who takes over the title of MLB's worst ump? C. B. Bucknor comes to mind.
  8. The soccer/football fields converted into baseball brings up the extreme example of when the Dodgers first played in the extreme oval that was the LA Coliseum while awaiting the eviction of Mexican Americans out of Chavez Ravine in favor of what became Dodger Stadium. Even with a temporary fence built, CF was so long and the lines (particularly in LF) so short that the joke had it that the building had room for 100,000 fans but only two outfielders. [FIMG=500]https://sports.cbsimg.net/images/visual/whatshot/Bxd0StLCEAAIyXu.jpg[/FIMG] There's a make-shift screen in front of the seats in LF -- sort of a mesh monster -- to prevent pop-ups from becoming HRs and fans from becoming decapitated by line drives. Another make-shift fence ran from CF to the RF corner or else a batter could circle the bases twice on a gapper to RCF. Lefty swinging Dodger Wally Moon learned how to slice outside pitches over that screen (19 HRs in 1959 for the 170 lb OF/1B) in what naturally became known as 'Moon-shots'.
  9. Odd mid-season retirement ... which means there's some back story going on here.
  10. That's three knee injuries for the still just 26 y/o Acuna including two ACL tears, one on each knee. And while there's no one who thinks that his baby bro has anywhere near his ceiling, it would be nice if Luisangel turns out to have better ligaments than his brother. Braves, btw, lost today to the Nats and are just 11-12 in May, 4-8 in their last 12, so it's not like they were going great prior to this injury. Of course the last time they lost Acuna for the season they won the World Series so it's probably a bit too early to start writing their obituary. Still, six full games out of 1st place (Phils also lost today to the Giants) and sliding.
  11. Ya gotta like one of the Gameday descriptions from MLB.com: Matt Chapman flies out sharply to center fielder Harrison Bader
  12. Gary mentioned during the game how little they have been winning this season in any of the home alternates (blue, black, or C.C.) ... but they did today in the blues.
  13. Was out all day, just finished watching now, which also means you guys were spared my bad mood through 95% of that game. Amazing what a few timely hit will do. Mets had four hits thru the first 8 (with the usual never more than one in any inning). But then four more in the 9th which, as it turns out, is a good way to generate runs. I wish I had known that prior to today.
  14. Left out of GKR's post-mortem there which basically blamed everything else under the sun for the loss ... THEY GOT FOUR FUCKING HITS!!!!!! (in ten innings) And the only runs were scored via solo HRs (all we hit these days) and they were oh-for-13 w/RiSP We can blame the pen all we want and they have sucked (whose turn will it be to blow up tomorrow?). But they're also being put in a position where they have to be perfect every day because the offense is so bad and can't even take advantage when 9th inning errors erasing GiDPs happen two games in a row or score ghost runners.
  15. They weren't coming back after the first run scored so the next four were merely window dressing.
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: Bottom line: we don't get hits late in games; we give up lots of hits late in games. Oh yeah, and the bottom of the opposition lineup out-hits the middle of ours.
  17. 9th inning Mets: PO, BB, GO(E), GO, FO 10th Giants: 1B, 1B, E, BB ... Bottom line: we don't get hits late in games; we give up lots of hits late in games.
  18. Luke Jackson had the cool hand that inning.
  19. These are the kinds of breaks we HAVEN'T been taking advantage of.
  20. Not a good swing on a 3-1 count Jeff.
  21. Mets are 2-11 in their last 13 This now makes it the third blown 9th inning lead of those now 14 games. And in four others they've had the tying or go-ahead/winning runs on in the 9th or extras but failed to score them. These games have, for the most part, been winnable but we haven't been winning them.
  22. Does McNeal have to give those glasses back to Doc Brown after the game?
  23. Now 0/8 w/RiSP The last eight HRs by the Mets, and 10 of the last 12, have been solo. The two that weren't had one runner on, so 12 HRs = 14 RBI across 5 games.
  24. OK, that's it, no more HRs today or we'll definitely lose. OK we'll probably lose anyway. But no reason to make it a certainty.
