  1. From 'Hardball Times' ... from 1998 to 2005, the NL has had a 54.7% winning percentage at home; the AL's is 54.2%, compared to a 53.6% win percentage at home for all teams, including interleague games In other words, the theory that home teams in Interleague games would have an "unfair" advantage based on playing with their own rules in their own park doesn't really hold up. Home teams in IL games have only a slightly better winning pct than home teams do in all games.

  4. Actually, I screwed up and my mistake is tempting the TH Gods; I didn't realize that the Braves' game was delayed by rain and isn't yet final!!! As a result, they are still playing so TH #10 is not yet official. It's currently 6-2 Cards in the 8th.
  5. #10 Double Digits for Triple Happiness makes me a singularly happy person!!!! July 4th, 2006 Mets 7 - Pirates 6 Indians 19 - Yanquis 1 Cards 5 - Braves 2
  6. Reyes - 2.2 Glavine - 2.0 Nady - 2.0 Chavez - 1.2 Sanchez - 1.0 Wagner - 1.0 Castro - 0.3 Wright - 0.3
  7. Yeah, I'm going under the assumption that this move is in response to the 6-games-in-the-next-5 days scenario - and presumably all of it w/o Pedro - rather than something more permanent. Lima may get a start in addition to Maine come this weekend rather than instead of. After the break we go to the opposite extreme with 3 games over 8 days so it's probable that this is a one-shot deal for Lima no matter how he pitches.
  8. Reyes - 2.0 Floyd - 1.5 Maine - 1.5 LoDuca - 1.3 Oliver - 1.0
  9. Soler demoted - although he's going to get his leg checked out in NYC first. Apparently he was complaining about something with his "drive" leg last night. I just hope it's good enough for him to be able to drive to Norfolk. (on edit: slow typing)
  10. No reason so far for the switch from Oliver or what moves were made to get him up here. (acc to WFAN)
  11. The Pirates are a weird team. They've got some talented players: Bay obviously, but also Freddie Sanchez the 3rd baseman is having a real good season, and Jose Bautista has good CF numbers. Sean Casey might be overpaid but isn't bad and Craig Wilson is a decent fill-in. Jack Wilson isn't hitting too much now (he comes and goes) but is a great SS glove, and Jose Castillo is giving reasonable power from 2B. Plus, they're in what seems like their 10th consecutive year of having good arms who should get better results than they're showing: Duke, Snell, the recently-demoted Oliver Perez (what da fuck happened to that guy?). Seems like baseball people have been waiting for (and getting dissapointed by) Pitt pitching since Kris Benson was their #1 overall draft pick. And then they go out and get thumped by the Royals whose roster looks almost totally barren.
  12. Beltran - 2.4 Reyes - 1.0 Valentin - 1.0 Franco - 1.0 Feliciano - 0.3 Bradford - 0.3
  13. Unfortunately, still shots can't do justice to that Mathews catch. That shot is merely the spinning aftermath of a whole-arm-and-chest over-the-wall, back-to-the-plate backhander at a full gallop. Cancel all further play-of-the-year entries, we already have our winner.
  14. NL actually won the day on the final day of IL play (no thanks to us of course) but the final totals for this year give the AL about a whopping 61/39% edge. No other year prior to this had one league winning as much as 55% To put that into perspective; the AL won at about the same rate as the ChiSox did last season, while only the Royals in 2005 played worse than the NL did during this year's IL sked.
  15. I thought Willie was just too slow to replace Soler - although once he did I had no problem opting for Bell there rather than scrapping all plans for tomorrow and the rest of the week by getting Oliver up at all costs. Then, once Bell was shelled also, it made the most sense to keep him in there even if it meant taking the bullets. I mean, yeah, Morgan was correct here in that Torre stopped the bleeding by yanking Wright earlier than Willie yanked Soler - and that was certainly part of the difference. But the bigger part is that Villone stuffed us for 2+ innings while Bell turned out to just throw more gasoline on the fire. Only so much you can do when your pitchers decide to suck on a given night.
  16. Former NYM farmhand (with the condradictory name) Angel Pagan hit his first ML HR for the Cubs today on his 25th birthday. Then he hit another.
  17. Yeah, I just don't know when "eventually" is. He was only eligible to come off the DL just in the last week (remember he was moved to the 60-day) and I don't think he's even pitched anywhere yet. Sounds like he's at least another month away - and it's not like we know what he is yet either.
  18. ]Really underscores the Valentin at home play though. I like Wright with 'em loaded and 1 out so much better. When 8 straight guys reach base, including 2 XBH, you should score more than 4 runs. It's back to the bad base-running/giving away outs we were talking about the other day.
  19. Well I've been figuring all along that our current rotation would make it until the AS break before any changes would be implemented ... but it doesn't look like we're going to make it that far. Between Pedro's hip, Soler sucking, and the DH coming up this week, some move (and maybe more than one) is going to have to be made. Maine probably sometime this week, I'd guess in exchange for Soler getting on the Norfolk express hopefully to get straightened out. Bannister still isn't pitching regularly, which leaves Lima *ugh), MacLane (who hasn't been pitching well lately), or Pelfrey (who has). This all supposes no deal is made. I still think they'll wait a bit more on Pelfrey - at minimum until after the AS break and our 3-games-in-8-days gap is behind us. Then again, what da fuck do I know?
  20. ]I don;t get the impresion the brass ever thought much of Bell anywhoo. - Heath has never been consistant enough to earn the team's faith. Too many turkeys thrown in with his occasional good outings. - Anyone besides me get the impression when Wright skied out in the 2nd that we were going to regret not cashing in on those add-on runs? Of course you did although it turns out to hardly matter. - Soler, in addition to his other problems, just doesn't have 'swing-and-miss' stuff. That was true even during his good starts for the most part.
  21. And the reason for that - in addition to the DH of course - is that Pedro will miss his start tomorrow due to this bad hip of his. It's unclear at this point whether he's going to miss an entire go around or just get pushed back a few days. Either way I'm betting that Pedro pulls out of the AS Game appearance.
  22. Trachsel - 2.8 LoDuca - 1.8 Reyes - 1.4 Wright - 1.0 Heilman - 0.9 Marrera - 0.7 Castro - 1.0 Wagner - 0.4
  23. OHernandez - 3.0 Sanchez - 0.2
  24. NL getting killed again tonight. It would have been worse except that the Reds came back from being down to Cleveland 7-1 in the 8th - including a 2-out, 9th inning, down-by-three, walk-off GS from Adam Dunn 5th time in the last 20 years where there was a walk-off GS by a team down by 3 runs w/2 outs in the 9th.
  25. The Angels recalled RHP Jered Weaver from AAA today. To make room for him on the roster, they designated for assignment ... his older brother Jeff
