  1. Wright taketh away and gets taketh awayeth frometh ... or sumthin like that.
  2. Time to remind Ortiz that he just ain't no good
  3. Doesn't look like there were any gaps big enough to indicate time spent on the official DL -- just eased off into the sunset it seems.
  4. Johnson may only hang around until Alou is ready.. Gomez is OK and is starting tonight
  5. Giants decided a few days ago that today would be Barry's day off in the series. Zito - Cain - Lincecum has a chance to be a real good top of the rotation for the next few years.
  6. By the way, here's the same cast of characters sorted by their Isolated Power numbers (the gap between Slg Avg and BA) Garrett is down there with Mags & Hubie slumming near the catchers and middle infielders 1Strawberry.2572Piazza.2463Kingman.2344Ho Jo.2085Hundley.1986Hernandez.1927McReynolds.1888Foster.1709Milner.17010Carter.16311Agee.15712Alfonzo.15313TSwoboda.14513TReyes.14515Staub.14316Mazzilli.13217C. 7. I don't think they're intentionally sterring games away from NYC, it's just that it's tougher to make a sked that's all clean & tidy these days and the main culprit is inter-league play plus the odd number of divisions and the differeing number of teams within each division. In this case, the wheel turned up us against the Giants this week and the Giants were home on the West coast until late yesterday so I guess they feel that the day-off makes a lot more sense than a game with a quick turnaround.
  8. Garrett it is!! Not just a less-than obvious name but also it was the size of the margin that struck me as I was looking at this stuff!! All of which leads to the thought - spoke here at least once by one of ira's past identities (which is why I thought he'd be the one to guess it) - that in a more Sabermetric age Garrett would have been a more appreciated player. Plus, if you were to stick 'Red' into not only a more Sabermetric age but also a more weight-lifting and "nutrition" aware age he could have been a real monster since his main drawback was that he finishes 21st out of that group of 30 in "Isolated Slugging" avg (diff between BA & Slg). Ahh, what could have been! 1WAYNE GARRETT.1112Magadan.0993Strawberry.0964Milner.0945Mazzilli.093 6THernandez.0906THarrelson.0906THoJo.0909Hundley.08310TStaub.08210TStearns.08212TPiazza.07712TSwoboda.07714Alfonzo.07515TBackman.07015TCarter.07017Kingman.06818Agee.06719Grote.06520Boswell.06221TMcReynolds.05921TC. 9. Good choice with Magadan who just barely got his 2K NYM ABs ... but he came up just short. ]. I have a feeling that the player we're searching for didn't hit for a very good average. I wouldn't be surpised if we're looking for a player with a career batting average in the .240-.260 range. Or even lower .1----.1112Magadan.0993Strawberry.0964----.0945Mazzilli.093 6THernandez.0906THarrelson.0906THoJo.0909----.08310TStaub.08210T----.08212TPiazza.07712T----.07714Alfonzo.07515T----.07015T----.07017Kingman.06818----.06719----.06520----.06221TMcReynolds.05921T----.05923TKranepool.05523T----.05525----.05126----.04827----.04528----.04229Reyes.04030Flynn.030

  11. Sosa - 3.7 Smith - 1.0 Feliciano - 0.4 Wagner - 0.4 Heilman - 0.2 Wright - 1.5 Chavez - 1.0 Delgado - 0.5 Easley - 0.5 Franco - 0.4 Reyes - 0.4
  12. I don't even think Wilt Chamberlain ever had a triple-triple (well, at least not during a basketball game)

  15. I should have mentioned HoJo before since he is tied with Keith & Buddy Think away ... will be back tonight
  16. Damion Easley is the outfielder du jour in the wake of all the injuries Reyes - SS Gotay - 2B Beltran - CF Wright - 3B Delgado - 1B Castro - C Chavez - RF Easley - LF Sosa - P Reyes with a lead-off double but is stranded Cabrera with a 2-out single but Sosa Ks Willingham
  17. Mazzilli is 5th at .093 * Now starting, Game 3 of the 1969 World Series: Gary Gentry
  18. Straw = 3rd (.096) Keith (probably would have been my guess) is tied for 6th with Buddy Harrelson at .090 Olerud's 3 seasons were not enough to get him 2K ABs
  19. Jose Reyes has recently made it an even 30 Mets who have lasted long enough in the blue & orange (and occasionally black) to amass 2,000 NYM ABs. To date, among those 30, his career "walk rate" of .040 (the diff between his OBP and BA) is lower than all except for Doug Flynn's .030 - although I guess we can take solace in the fact that it's improving all the time now. Which Met, among the other 28, has the highest rate? (and it's not particularly close)
  20. ="iramets"]Do you buy the current meme that says these Mets are utterly unaffected by the history with the Braves, particularly the inability to win in Atlanta ... [and that] so it's mainly the fans who perceive this as a chronic problem? Yes, particularly since Joe Baddabingo doesn't buy it. He's still convinced that the Braves are "in the Mets' heads" - although he never attempts an explanation of how it would affect those who weren't there way back when or the reverse domination of last year. The Mets are 3-6 this year because the Braves have played much better overall in those games. Using excuses that can just be pulled out whenever convenient but then ignored in those cases where they don't fit the circumstances is always fun and easy ... and ultimately worthless.
  21. Antonio Alfonseca, Philly's designated closer until further notice, closed out the Braves for his first save on Saturday. Philly has now won 11 of their last 16, going over .500 for the first time this year after starting the season 3-10 Atlanta, meanwhile, is barely a .500 team ... whenever they're not playing those scrub-ass Mets that is: Braves vs non-Mets = 22 - 18 Mets vs non-Braves = 28 - 11
  22. Maine - 3.5 Delgado - 3.8 Chavez - 1.2 Burgos - 0.7 Sele - 0.3 Wright - 0.5
  23. Speaking of those two teams, we should mention the hit that both their bullpens took this past week: - Atlanta lefty Mike Gonzalez, who sat out our series with them, now needs ligament replacement surgery and will be out until the middle of next year. Gonzalez was the guy they dealt Adam LaRoche for and, after several good years in obscurity in Pittsburgh, many thought he was destined to swap roles with closer Wickman by year's end. Big loss. - And in Philly, starter - turned set-up man - turned closer, Brett Myers walked off the mound grabbing his shoulder the other day. The news doesn't seem to be as bad on him although details are still sketchy. Now, with both him and the guy he was replacing, Tom Gordon, out, the Phillie pen is in deep doo-doo. Oh, and Cox got hisself ejected again. One off the all-time record (John McGraw)
  24. Gwreck wrote: ="Nymr83"]my problem comes when a prospect is traded for a mediocrity. Accepting a fairly wide definition of "prospect," can you name 3 examples of this happening in the last 10 years? I'll spot you Kazmir-Zambrano. Two come to mind: - prospect Travis Hafner for Einar Diaz & Ryan Drese - prospects Francisco Liriano, Boof Bonser and (somewhat established) Joe Nathan ... all for AJ Pierzynski (who was then released after one season)
  25. A theoretical swapping of Alou/Green for Chavez/Gomez would represent a whopping loss of power. For all the Endy-love amongst Met fans these days, he's got 16 career HRs (~1,750 ABs) including all of 5 in ~450 ABs during his "new & improved" NYM stint. And at age 29, it's not like he's likely to find some new power in the near future. Who knows what to expect from Gomez, but it's not like he hit for a ton of power in the minors. In all, it's not exactly what you like to see out of your corner OFers. Alou + Green meanwhile produced approx 70 + 50 HRs in their last 1,700 or so ABs
