  1. So what are we up to now, 9 hits in the last 27 innings (two long games plus one short one) or something like that? If we can take two of three while doing that we should consider ourselves very lucky.
  2. LoDuca's hearing won't be until next week sometime and the plans are to let things be until at least then, meaning that he'll be active for the DH on Friday and the whole Philly series. After that they can either decide to; - drop the appeal and start serving right then, which has the advantage of choosing which games you'll sit out. - go through with the hearing and maybe get it reduced to one game. The disadvantage there it that you may not get it reduced and he'd have to start serving the suspension (whatever length) as soon as the ruling comes down, probably that same day.
  3. CARDINALS: Taguchi - CF Ludwick - LF Pujols - 1B Encarnzcion - RF Rolen - 3B Bennett - C Miles - 2B Ryan - SS Reyes - P =blue]METS: Reyes - SS LoDuca - C Beltran - CF Wright - 3B Delgado - 1B Green - RF Easley - 2B Gomez - LF Glavine - P And there'll be a late start due to rain
  4. Willie Randolph, already selected as a coach for the mid-summer classic, will instead miss the game in order to have shoulder surgery. The procedure will clean out some wear and tear injuries that have built up over the years and Willie wants to have it as soon as possible so as to be able to return to batting practice pitching by Spring Training of the '08 season. No word on any roster moves to replace him.
  5. Oakland, missing their usual closer Huston Street, gets burned by it Tuesday night: Alan Embree in to protect a 2-run 9th inning lead in Cleveland: - Josh Barfield: Pop out - Grady Sizemore: Walk - Casey Blake: Fly Out - Victor Martinez: Walk - Travis Hafner: 2 RBI Double -- Tie Game - Jhonny Peralta: Int Walk - Kelly Shoppach: Pinch-Hit, 3R Walk-Off HR
  6. Exposing him to waivers isn't the problem. I'm reasonably sure he could refuse a minor league demotion just based on seniority - although maybe he'd agree to some sort of short-term fix-up with a specific recall date. I agree that he's got to be used as a more lefty-specific guy. Willie kept insisting in the Spring that - when his sinker is right - that he's capable of facing either although recent years stats don't seem to agree. Those L/R splits are hideous, but at least make sense. The H/R splits defy any logical explanation.
  7. I don't even know what to say here. I never liked the signing from the beginning but that was more a case of not liking a 3-year committment, not that I thought a guy with at least a decent track record, and one that at times was quite good, to collapse like this. So between the money and the hope that he'll find himself again, they're not going to just cut him. Also, as a vet he'd have the right to refuse a minor league demotion, and you wonder if a short-term demotion would have any beneficial effects - aka: The Trax Factor - although if Rick can't help him ... Also, check this out: ---IPERAHHRBBKWHiP HOME179.532151582.12ROAD10.20.0090551.31 I mean that's too bizarre to even attempt an explaination.
  8. Perez - 3.3 Valentin - 0.6 Beltran - 1.0 Reyes - 0.3 Green - 0.3 LoDuca - 1.0 Feliciano - 0.4 Mota - 0.5 Wagner - 0.6
  9. Proctor also fielded a popped bunt in that 9th inning (nice diving catch) but was too intent on showing the glove to realize that he had an easy DP if he looked to 2nd. That kept runners on 1st & 2nd and then the two walks followed. (I'll take my good news where I can find it tonight)
  10. That's 9 hits in 21 innings against one of the worst staffs in the NL. We're lucky to have stolen one game with that kind of production.
  11. This reminds me of '86/Game 6; the first run didn't worry me all that much but that 2nd one seemed like a back-breaker.
  12. Valentin's trying to be the hero AND the goat.
  13. With all the righties coming up there you wonder why it wasn't Smith all along.
  14. Well, the best part of their pen is gone ... but so is ours. Top of the order doesn't even get the ball out of the infield off of Thompson. Who's left beyond Schoeneweis; Smith & Sele? And only Castro left on the bench I think.
  15. Proctor walks 3 Orioles in the 9th, including a bases-loaded game-winner
  16. Running through the whole bench here
  17. Great decision running there.
  18. We have threee shots at redeeming this pathetic hitting display.
  19. Dye - who, to my surprise, is only 33 - is having a Delgado-type year and has had more of that type of so-so year than he has real good (2006) ones. IOW, Delgado is at least as likely to perk up the offense as an influx of Dye is. I'm not objecting to bringing in another bat but I'm not sure I'd want it to be him.
  20. - Does personality make that big a difference? - Do they see Griffey as more noble because he took less money to go home? - Or was it just because A-Rod came back as an opposing player right away, while Griffey was gone for 7 years? Yes Yes Somewhat There were some scattered boos for Griffey on the first night, but maybe all the nice things he said made a difference by the end of the weekend. It might have also helped that his hitting didn't hurt them. He HR'd twice on Sunday but in a losing cause so it didn't matter. A-Rod just seems to have an almost stunning ability to rub almost everyone the wrong way and come off as a phony in the process. And the harder he tries to repair his image - and Lord does he try - the worse he makes it.
  21. Sosa - 3.0 Wagner - 1.4 Feliciano - 1.0 Heilman - 0.7 Gomez - 1.6 Green - 2.3
  22. You know it's a nice shot when Jose's shirt is untucked before the ball even lands. * Am I really Roger McDowell or is this some kind of practical joke?
  23. Let's kick this Springer guy's ass
  24. Moises to be re-evaluated by doctors a week from today. Then they'll take it from there. iow, not before the AS break.
