  1. LoDuca drops his appeal and will serve the suspension during Thursday's and Friday's games.
  2. Cleon, put before after it. Your Sports Illustrated picture has too many symbols screwing things up. The Img button above does it automatically to anything you highlight.
  3. Carlos Gomez goes on the DL with a broken 'Hammate' (sp?) bone in his hand. That, IIRC, is one of those pebble-sized bones that your hand has a bunch of, he apparently did it during a swing in his last AB Wed night. Surgery will happen tonight and he's out for 6-8 weeks. David Newhan has been recalled and is expected by game time.
  4. Judging by these mid-term results, it's kind of tough to label the NL East as the 'Division of Suck'. The end-of-season projections show the divisions to finish the year at*: NL West = +42 (games above .500 as a division) AL West = +40 AL Central = +26 NL East = -10 AL East = -22 NL Central = -68 * The totals don't exactly "zero out" here due to some teams having played a few games over the 81-game mark
  5. All teams have now reached the half-way mark. Their wins thru their first 81 games are projected out to a full season then compared to last year's finishing mark. TEAMWins Thru 81Proj. 6. And speaking of relatives; the Dan Hernandez currently playing for the GCL Mets is apparently Keith's nephew. How & when did he get in the org? I didn't see him on the recent draft list so I guess we're talking an undrafted FA? Meanwhile 36th rounder Glen (son of Howard) Johnson is one of the unsigned ones remaining from last month's draft. He may be headed to college instead. * I'm Craig Swan ... I can help.
  7. Wright - 2.5 Heilman - 0.5 LoDuca - 0.6 Green - 0.4
  8. Sandys Sr. & Jr. are tied for hits as NY Mets
  9. Vargas sent down - almost certainly removing him from the Sunday starting slot - and Sandy Alomar Jr. gets the call-up, making him the third member of the Alomar family to play for the Mets (a first I assume). Sounds like Dave Williams - who contractually actually HAS to be called up by a certain date (Mid July) - sounds like he's the likely choice for that last game before the AS break. Also, the LoDuca appeal gets held on Friday so he'll miss one or both of the games on the final weekend.
  10. Castro - 1.4 Wright - 1.0 Mota - 0.5 Schoeneweis - 0.5 Delgado - 0.6
  11. There's been too many "it's just one of those nights" games lately.
  12. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I'm surprised to learn that he got as small as 3.75 inches. So were Joe's lady friends. Surprised, AND disappointed.
  13. What happened to GI Joe was that the anti-war crowd got after him (or, more accurately, his makers) forcing them to turn him from a soldier into an "action figure". So gone were the more blatant instruments of war accesories to be replaced by; Joe as Scuba Diver; Joe on Safari; Joe the big game hunter (PETA wasn't well organized yet), etc. I don't remember (I never had any) if the changing roles specifically coincided with the shrunken figure.
  14. Pelfrey - 1.0 Mota - 0.5 Schoeneweis - 0.5 Reyes - 0.5 LoDuca - 1.0 Delgado - 1.5
  15. Wright - 1.5 Green - 1.5 Gotay - 1.0 Smith - 1.0
  16. btw, He'll apparently resume "baseball activities" next week in Florida.
  17. First of all, note the starting time: 8:05 EDT, or 6PM local time - an hour earlier than last night. Apparently there's a fireworks thing after the game and I guess Denver goes to bed early and they can't shoot off rockets past 9 o'clock or something. Vargas vs Aaron Cook (4-9, 4.70, 1.40 WHiP) We last faced Cook during the series at Shea in April where he kept us scoreless for 7 IPs (6 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks) - that game stayed scoreless thru 9 (7 IPs from OHernandez). Both teams then traded single runs in the 10th (2-out double & triple off Wagner, then an Easley HR) before Endy won it in the 12th with a bunt. Vargas's only start this year was that wacky day game in May vs the Cubs where Willie put in the scrub lineup and they proceeded to look like shit before scoring 5 in the 9th. Prior to the fireworks, Jason didn't exactly distunguish himself that day: 7 IP, 5 R, 6 H, 2 K, 0 BB
  18. Hirsch stayed when he shoulda went and was going when he shoulda been staying ... and got hurt because of it.
  19. "A-Rod gets hurt" Which'll improve the team according to many of their fans.
  20. Reyes has this thing pop-up down pat lately.
  21. And now Cincy cans Jerry Narron - making it a two managerial opening day.
  22. Except that they committed to the full amount of the contract before that year - or any year - was in the books. How they chose to divide it up is basically an accounting deal and unless they found someone who was willing to take on the expensive years of the contract absolving the Marlins of all but the cheap year (they didn't) it worked out the same as it would if the per/year amount was just the total divided up evenly.
  23. I've been tracking the times of games for the last few weeks. So as to not be totally nerdy by tracking the exact minute of every game, I put each into a 10 minute window; counting the number of games between 2:00 and 2:09 for instance; and between 2:10 & 2:19; between 2:20 & 2:29, etc. My only real point here was that I was looking for whether or not there was a noticable difference in NL, AL & IL games. There is. The results here are for all [u:2f22a97fd0]9 inning games[/u:2f22a97fd0] for the month of June. Lg# of games< 2:30< 2:40< 2:50< 3:00< 3:10AL7614%24%43%55%67%NL9218%37%50%65%85%IL18616%31%45%65%81%
  24. Murray & Chili Davis hold the ML "record" for those with 11 each -- but apparently Murray never had any as a Met.
  25. ]How about if you get the Mercedes for $2 down, make no payments for a year, drive it around for a year and then sell it to me for the full price? I'm pretty stupid then, aren't I, letting you drive around for 2 bucks in a new Mercedes for a year, especially when I could have bought it for the same price myself a year earlier, huh? Which isn't even remotely congruent to what happened here. ]PS Tell me about the specific anount of money the Mets had to pay to equalize the contract. All I can find is that they included cash in the deal, no specified amount, and no specific mentions of equalizing contracts either. I remember it being about 7 to 9 million dollars, meaning that the Marlins paid about 1/4 of Delgado's contract for 1/4 of the length, and that they paid approx 3 times for one year of Delgado than what the Mets paid for one year of Mkwicz.
