  1. LaRussa would just start carrying 15 pitchers
  2. Yanx were likely to be in the market for a starter anyway. This just pushes up the timetable and the desperation. (so how is Pavano's rehab coming anyway?)
  3. ]Don't take my judgment for golden because it was the judgment of a not-quite nine-year-old hung up on stats and skewed by the presence of a 20-10, 289 Ks, 1.76 ERA future Hall of Famer on the same staff, but I swear, when it was announced Nolan Ryan, I was fine with it. "This guy walks too many people and he doesn't win enough" was my nuanced take. That was about my reaction too. For years I didn't regret getting rid of Ryan - only the return we got for him. Even though much of his Angels years I thought of him as a decent (though hardly great) and wildly-inconsistent pitcher whose rep was better than the product on account of the High-K numbers, those occasionally spectacular outings, plus the fact that the networks had just discovered radar guns. And later when he signed with Houston my reaction was that HE was the guy who just became MLB's first $1million dollar/year player?!? What he became, of course, was a much better pitcher in his 30s than he ever was in his twenties, and the longevity he was able to put together is something no one would have bet on.
  4. Maine - 2.0 Heilman - 0.4 Delgado - 1.2 Beltran - 1.6 Tatis - 0.6 Castro - 0.7 Nixon - 1.0
  5. Martinez - 3.5 Feliciano - 0.6 Sanchez - 0.6 Wagner - 0.8 Cancel - 1.3 Wright - 1.1 Beltran - 0.8 Easley - 0.5 Castillo - 0.5
  6. Axing Peterson would certainly please a lot of Met fans - although it always amazed me how many Met fans seem to be virulently (and at times almost violently) anti-Peterson. Misplaced anger left over from the Kazmir trade no doubt, but by now that's more a convenient excuse than an actual reason unless you're Benigno-level stupid. Rubin's going to be on FAN at about 11:45

  8. Killer pen for once -- 9 up, 9 down!
  9. Willie's a Genius!! (I wouldn't have PH'd either)
  10. OK, it's time to remind this pitcher that he's on the Texas Rangers and he suxx.
  11. btw, if it comes down to running on their OF, Josh Hamilton has one of the great throwing arms in the game. He was throwing 90+ in HS back when he was drafted. Shows you what kind of offensive player he was when they take a lefty throwing 90+ and DON'T put him on the mound.
  12. That's twice in the last couple of days that they've missed runners hung out to dry. Castro missed that potential groundout DP a few games ago.
  13. Gwreck wrote: Generally, the best idea is not to worry about what the morons calling WFAN might be thinking. I don't, I just threw it out there as an example of how nutty this Willie stuff has become. He's criticized for his players NOT playign slip-n-slide on the tarp, he'd most likely to be criticized if they DID go sliding, and it's come to the point where I'm a bit surprised he wasn't criticized for the rain itself.
  14. Missed it by that much!
  15. Unfortunately, the Max Smart mojo isn't looking good right now.
  16. Good call -- he never had it.
  17. Those fuckin' tack-on runs that the pen allowed are the difference between us being on the verge of tying it and this rally being only midly interesting.
  18. Trot's caught both fly balls hit to him so far. Start punching those All-Star ballots.
  19. Late night radio callers saw the absence of Mets slip-sliding on the wet tarp as an indictment of Willie's regime.
  20. So Channel 11 spent Saturday celebrating its own 60th anniversary by airing re-runs of a bunch of shows that made up much of its programming over the years: 'Three Stooges', 'Odd Couple', 'My Favorite Martian', etc.. I wasn't much interested in most of it, but I did stick a tape in for the two episodes of 'Get Smart', one of my favorites from back in the day. The first one they ran was the original pilot. Brought to you in full living black and white, the plot starts with the Chief assigning Max to hook up with the as-yet un-met 'Agent 99' so the two of them can foil KAOS's latest threat to world security. '99' will reveal herself to Max by uttering the code phrase 'The New York Mets Win Double-Header'. "Yeah, I'd like to see that" says Max (air date - Sept 1965). Then, at the Grand Central Station rendevous point, Max briefly mistakes a child for '99' when the kid reads an actual newspaper headline out loud which reads 'New York Mets Win Double-Header'. "So you're 99?" Max asks. "No" the kid answers, "I'm only seven and a half". By the time the real 99 shows up and utters the key phrase, Max dismissively replies, "Yeah I already know that" before realizing that she is his contact (although it takes him a bit longer than that before it occurs to him that she is female). So, between this and last night's rainout, I'm taking it as an omen.
  21. Gabbard, Gabbard, Hey! Both he and LFer Murphy were the guys they got from the BoSox last year for 6 weeks of Eric Gagne. Nice haul for a guy who was a FA amd sucked once he left town. Murphy especially was a former 1st round draft pick and is having a good season. And it's Rain Delay Theatre to start off the evening.
  22. Infielder Aaron Miles pitched the 9th - setting down Rollins, Victorino & Bruntlett 1-2-3 on two pop-ups and a comebacker. AL teams won the night 9-5 and hold the edge for the year while trying to "win" IL play for the 5th straight season.
  23. Oh it's not that [u:d047a76f3e]I[/u:d047a76f3e] don't want to see it. I just don't think it's going to happen.
