    2nd and 3rd/no outs, Alcantara out of the game. Mets have an outside shot at scoring a run here. Not on the first AB mind you, but before the inning is out.

    So Peralta coming off a good year with a full season of team control was worth a better package of prospects as compared to being dealt in the midst of the worst season of his career and with only two months before he could be a FA? Got it!

    I don't mind Robert Stack starting so much, it's the guys behind him that worry me. Oh wait, Robert Stock? ... Nevermind.

    River Ryan is an odd choice in that he turns 28 in a few weeks and has appeared in just 8 games over the past two years. Made his ML debut in August of 24 but then missed the rest of that season and all of '25 after pitching just four times so I'mmassuming TJS. Has thrown 8 mostly mediocre games this year at AAA Okkky City but folks must see potential in him now that the surgery & rehab is behind him. Because he was on the LAD roster when he got hurt he got ML service time for all of '25 so the Tigers will assume five years of control rather than six. Zyhir Hope (I thought River and Zyhir were Joaquin Phoenix's brothers but there's much I'm confused about these days) is a 21 y/o L/L OF w/power currently putting up a 900 OPS while living on Tulsa Time in the AA Texas League. The Tigers may use him for a playoff push this year and is probably a decent bet to be in Detroit's OF full time by some point in '27

    Prior to this season, Pete Crow-Armstrong had a walk rate of 4.9% over his two+ year ML career. This season it's 11.3% (ML avg = 8.9%). Not coincidentally his OPS+ has risen from 88 in 2024 over 410 PA, to 115 ('25/647), to 152 this year (484 PA). Kind of stunning to see that kind of dramatic transformation in such a short time from a young player (PC-A still just 24 y/o). In the 1st inning vs the Yanx today, PC-A walked leading off, went to 2nd on a WP, took 3rd on a GO, and came home on another WP. 1 - 0 Cubs and the ball never left the IF

    We just got Lake Bachar'd. Which, I suppose, is better than getting Ricki Lake'd, but not by much.

    At last year's trading deadline the Yanx dealt away four minor leaguers to the Giants for reliever Camilo Doval. But after Doval's contributions turned out to be not quite what the Bombers expected, today they spun him off to the Pirates for two prospects despite Doval not being eligible for FA-gency until after the 2027 season. In 66 appearances for NYY over the '25 & '26 seasons Doval pitched to a 4.63 / 1.47 [ERA/WHIP] (vs 3.29 / 1.26 w/SFG in parts of five seasons) and just two saves.

    I've learned today that AMEX is an official partner of Olivia Rodrigo. Of course I'm probably one of the last people on the planet to know that, but at least I know it now and so can be accepted by hip society going forward.

    Not that 'clear and convincing' is the standard anyway. It may be in word but not in practice, not now it isn't at least even if it supposedly was at some point.

    So while there's been incremental progress in the raw numbers since early in the year, the team's ranking remains pretty much unchanged now that we're four months into this little project which in turn gives little indication that it's going to be much better in the remaining four updates.

    Yes, he's not hurt and he's not not hitting because he's playing 1B, an easier physical position than the ones he played previously. Also not really old (turned 33 a few weeks back) and averaged 120 G/yr over the last five seasons and under 100 just once in that time.

    You mean his 773/117 OPS/OPS+ for the five year period from 2021-25 compared to his 391/10 this year? Sounds like just small sample size and random fluctuation to me.

    The Yanx finish up their week in Chicago with a weekend series at Wrigley. And, being Friday, the opener was played this afternoon with the Yanx winning 2 - 0. Not surprisingly their two runs came on solo HRs (Amed Rosario & Spencer Jones) because HRs are basically the only way they score. They had just five hits, the Cubs just four. - the Phils travel all the way to Baltimore - the Nats and the Braves play each other in Atlanta And Texas @ Houston is the big rivalry series for the weekend as the Rangers lead the 'Astros in the division by just 1/2 game (SEA = 2-1/2 back) at the start of today's action.

    Not quite sure what people were expecting form a Minter trade. After signing with the Mets in the previous off-season he's appeared in 36 games (out of a possible 270) and thrown 34 innings. That 34 IP, btw, matches the 34 he threw for Atlanta in 2024. Now while 68 innings represents a decent number for a reliever over a season, this is Minter's total across Three season (2-2/3 to be specific). Is a nice lefty arm out of the pen (never started a game) and his splits vs RHBs are only marginally worse than his same-side numbers over his career. But he missed two-1/2 months in '24, the last five months of '25, and then the first two of '26 so there's got to be a limit that a club will spend for him. Turns 33 next month (which is several years younger than I expected).

    I'm with 'Team Keith' on this one, Bichette would have been out by 40 feet. G & R thought it was worth the gamble but LF has the ball in his hands as Bichette is hitting the base. The next single was not only a better risk but the fact that the first run was already in made it the better time to take a risk. Benge is safe there on just about anything save maybe with a perfect throw.

    I was thinking no-hitter starting in the 2nd inning tonight ... but as I type this it ends just over halfway there (14 of 27 outs).

    The Yanx didn't blow a six or seven run lead last night, but they did blow a 4 - 0 lead in the 7th and eventually lost. And it wasn't just that they lost it's how. The game was tied after the ChiSox scored once in the 7th and thrice in the 8th. Neither team scored in the 10th but the Yanx notched one in top 11 . The Sox then got their ghost runner to 3rd but made two quick outs. The Yanqui catcher thought this would be a great time to end the game by picking the runner off 3rd ... except that he threw it into LF, game tied. Yanx didn't score in top-12, Sox walked it off in the bottom half. This afternoon, the Sox walked it off in the 11th (bases-loaded walk). Those two split the four game series 2 - 2. Incredibly, given the White Sox performance in the last couple seasons decades, this could be a playoff preview.
