  1. Bill Madden - after months of articles about how the NY teams and their 'barren' farms were doing things the wrong way while Theo's club and his build through the system method was the way to go - is suddenly praising Cashman's spending spree and mocking Theo's "cheapness" as the ALEast threatens to turn into a rout. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2009/08/09/2009-08-09_yankees_and_red_sox_rivalry.html?page=0 Funny, innit, how the team on top is always the one who did things the right way to get there?
  2. Figueroa - 1.5 Redding - 1.9 Parnell - 0.5 Cora - 1.5 Murphy - 0.2 Francoeur - 0.2 Reed - 0.2
  3. Saturday, August 9 - Fulton County Stadium: Mets 5 - Braves 3 -- Tom Seaver vs Pat Jarvis Seaver, leading off the 7th in a game tied at 3, singles and later scores the go-ahead run when Jones singles 3 batters later. Mets score again in the 9th while first McGraw and then Koonce finish up the game. HRs - Agee (solo in the 3rd) Aaron & Cepeda - back to back solo in the 3rd Future Met George Stone is the loser in relief. Game Time = 3:11 61 - 48; 2nd place; 8.5 games out of 1st, 1.0 games ahead of 3rd place StL (Cubs beat Dodgers 4 - 0)
  4. It's like Sean Green has no idea where his pitches are going.

  6. Chase Headley Hedley Kase http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt94/FHSart/sc013f66ef.jpg I think I see a resemblance
  7. OK, we're lucky not to be down about 8-1 at this point.
  8. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: 17th time the Mets walked in a runner from 3rd this year. Is that what he said? 15 walks plus 2 HBPs in bases loaded situations.
  9. Who is Matt Latos? Good question ... and since I just discovered it was my turn to do the SD KTE but had no freakin clue, I guess I better answer it A not-yet 22 y/o, 6' 5" rookie right-hander making his 5th major league start tonight - that's who! Starting from the unheralded beginnings of being an 11th round draft pick out of an Alexandria Virginia HS in 2006, he seems to have starting hitting his stride in 2008 as he shot through several levels of the Padre system. By the beginning of this season it was 4 quick games in the (low-A) Midwest League followed by 9 dominating starts in AA San Antonio. During those combined 13 games (11 starts) he racked up some ridiculous numbers (8 - 1; 1.37 ERA; 42 hits in 72 IP; 73 Ks to 12 BBs; 0.75 WHiP) which earned him a free trip to Sandy Eggo where, so far anyway, he hasn't missed a step: 4 starts; 23.2 IP; 15 Hits; 16 Ks/6 BBs; 0.89 WHiP (3 -1 record).
  10. There's been a Matt Franco sighting at YSIII today. He's there checking out his [step-cousin's?] main squeeze along with his Uncle Kurt and kind of Aunt Goldie. Oh, and just by the way, the Sox are being no-hit thru 5, meaning that they're now working on 20 scoreless innings w/just 4 singles. Come to think of it they didn't score over the last 4 or 5 innings on Thursday night either.
  11. ="metirish"]On the play at the plate to tie this up who made the cutoff throw , Schneider looked like he did all he cold with that throw. The newly called-up and just-in-for-defense Andy Handy is your culprit. He got rid of it quickly and the throw was hard - but putting it on the 1st-base side of the line is the worst thing you can do there, If anything err to the 3rd base side. Worst that happens there is the catcher gets killed. And maybe I'm just imagining things but it seems that just about all our relay throws this year have been just off enough to prevent a bunch of outs. They're either in-between bounces, or on the wrong side, or whatever. That's why I thought it was a stupid move to send that big lug home - a better throw has him dead and there were no outs at the time. Of course when your closer faces 5 guys and retires none of them it kind of doesn't matter.
  12. But Jeter scored the winning run don't you see? ARod's run was meaningless. I mean, yeah, he went one-for-seven and left a small village on base in several game-winning situations, but he saved his one hit for when it really mattered and thus inspired Alex to his stat-padding hit.
  13. Perez - 3.5 Wright - 2.0 Stokes - 1.0 Francoeur - 0.8 Pagan - 0.4 Sullivan - 0.3
  14. Friday, August 8 - Fulton County Stadium: Mets 4 - Braves 1 (Game 1 of DH) -- Jerry Koosman vs Milt Pappas JC Martin single knocking in Garrett w/2 outs in the 3rd is the only run for either side over the first 8 innings. In top 9th a Cleon Jones double plates Agee (and chases Pappas) and then 2-out RBI singles from Clendenon & Martin again make it 4-0 Mets. Koosman - the only Met who didnt bat in the top of the inning - completes the 7-hit CG with only a 2-out solo HR from catcher Bobby Tillman spoiling the shutout Game Time = 2:24 Game 2 - Braves 1 - Mets 0 (10 innings) -- Ron Reed vs Gary Gentry Gentry holds the Braves scoreless on 4 hits and 2 walks through 9. But Ron Taylor retires only one batter in the 10th as Felipe Alous bases-loaded single brings in the only run of the game. Reed goes all 10 innings for the win on 5 hits (all singles) & no walks Game Time = 2:11 60 - 48; 2nd place; 8.5 Games out of 1st , 1.0 game ahead of 3rd place StL (Cubs lose to Dodgers 5 - 0) I know I keep harping on it, but look at these game times! A 4:35 DH where one of the games goes extra innings (19 innings total). The Yanx & Sawx went just under 4 hours for a 9-inning game on Thursday and were closing in on 6 hours for a scoreless 14-2/3 on Friday.
  15. Frankie's last 13 batters faced: 5 hits (1 1B, 3 2B, 1 HR), 4 walks (1 intentional), 1 error (Cora), 3 retired (1 K, 1 deep FO, 1 shallow PO) = 7 runs
  16. If you're going to blow it might as well ruin the ERA while you're at it.
  17. That curve ball is the only thing he's getting over.
  18. Unfrickinbelievable!! SD makes a bad call to send that big galoot who makes a bad slide at the plate where the ump makes a bad call ... but all that's secondary to the leadoff walk shit.
  19. Time for Frankie to get back on our good side.
  20. I heard exactly ONE phone call on FAN today - it was a Yanqui fan calling to say that ARod is a "disgrace to the team" Wonder if he wants to give the win back?
  21. We suck for not scoring more since inning 1.
  22. Sawx got some Japanese pitcher who's apparently working his first ever MLB game right now - and they've got no one left in the pen so it's his to win or lose. Had a couple of screamers hit off him there but one at'em ball and one great running catch by JD Drew
  23. Lotta speedy Padres out there.
  24. Gary & Ron's "eulogy" was triggered by Burkhardt having filmed a kind of 'Day in the Life of Jerry' feature this afternoon.
