I'm hitting Citi three times this year, after not going at all (save the "open workout" before Opening Day) last year. So maybe I'll have a chance to build some comparison. Were they? RFK seemed really really high. Maybe higher. (And Coors field is a mile high! hahahahah) My first thought was 'The Vet' in Philly - that place was huge (and ugly). The highest (700 level?) seats there were REAL high and from the ones in CF (admittedly not used all that often for baseball) the game must have seemed like a rumor. Although now that I remember looking down at the top of the RF foul pole from seats at the Todd Pratt/Arz game it's possible that those Vet seats weren't necessarily higher than the top row at Shea but I bet the combination of height and horizontal distance probably made them further from the field.
  4. Three perfect IPs for Hisonori and we're headed for FREE BASEBALL!!
  5. Taka says Nix to Lance
  6. The problem with Reyes's & Bay's fly outs is that they came in the wrong order. Bay's could have gotten a run in but there were already two out by that point. Reyes was the guy up with one out but his was far too shallow and with Bruce throwing and Blanco running the tag out would have been closer to 3rd than to home.
  7. Mets start the game in Grand Dragon fashion: K - K - K Stuff like that tends to happen when your top three have sub-.300 OBPs (OK, Pagan was at .301 prior to his K, but you get the picture)
  8. Cot's contracts has all that info: http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2004/12/new-york-mets.html

(i think a white sox game?) Not that certainly. That guy - a father/son team of drunks actually - went from the stands directly at the coach with obvious menace in mind. running away from the authorities is enough for me, you don't belong on the field and you know it. security/police should not have to give you the benefit of the doubt when you are already trespassing and risk the safety of the teams' personnel or their own safety. plus, he's a phillies fan, so taze his ass. It's a judgement call as it usually is with good law enforcement. In this particular case you have a skinny teenager running aimlessly in circles while waving a towel with no attempt or even hint that he was going after a player. In cases like that I'd prefer that going to the taser not be the first option nor be the choice based on not wanting to spend another 15 seconds cornering the guy.
  10. Maybe the last of the group (Barber, Mel Allen and others) with their announcer roots in the southern story-teller tradition. Now you wonder if a schtick-less announcer like him would even get hired today.
  11. He's making outs at a rate unlike Piazza (about 75% of the time) but fully half of his 18 hits have gone for XBs including 7 of those 9 over the fence. Overall that out rate isn't a great trade-off but both backstops have been providing the defense we never had with MP, aren't (IMO) ever going to get from Santos and probably not Thole either, and were hoping to get but never came close to with Schneider. Neither one is a long-term solution but are plugging holes this season so far at least.

There is no timetable for his return. I think you need to have a turn to have a return. Well, THAT was money well spent by the Mets. Why Omar and various placed medical staff members still have a job after this I don't know. Oh c'mon. Fans call for teams to take risks on players all the time with no guarantee as to how they'll turn out. They'll then pick on the ones that don't work out and act as if the outcome was known all along and that it's their money being paid to the guy.
  13. My point about Martinez is that even if he's ready to hit at the ML level (and I don't think he is) there have always been questions about whether or not he could man CF on a regular basis. Most touts have long thought that he is destined for a corner slot.

    Third

Predictably there are those just waiting to pounce on his lack of hitting and duct-tape it to the #3 slot. Problem is, not only don't I believe there's a connection but it's also not like his constant pop-ups are going to hurt less if he's hitting 1st or 2nd. The way he's hitting now he should be in the 8-slot but we know that's not going to happen. I always wanted him #2 anyway behind Luis but apparently that idea is a non-starter w/Jerry. Bottom line is that if he's swinging the way he's capable his bat will play almost anywhere and if not then it hardly matters where he's sucking at that moment. At this point I'd just let him hit himself out of his slow start in whatever position he's going to wind up in long-term.
  15. I said this in another thread in the last day or two -- but they got GMJ to have a "real" CF in case Pagan floated off into the ether somehow and until either Beltran returns or they find another 'real' one I don't think they're cutting ties with him and making do with some stop-gap corner guy as their ersatz CF. Maybe Pirdie is that guy, but I don't think Fernando is (nor is he hitting particularly well) nor is Evans, and I bet they want to stay away from tinkering with both Bay & Francoeur.

The cop/security might have been shooting the thing at him but missing or just aiming it with intent but never pulling the trigger, but it looks like the dope just goes down on his own when he realizes his time is up. I always think it's best if the biggest cop just happens to "trip" on his way to cover the guy and by doing so drops a knee into the back of his ribcage. Makes it tough for the douche to take his bows on the way out if he's trying too hard to catch his breath.
  17. It depends. If the guy was resisting in some way - other than just being a stupid drunk who is having fun until he's caught and goes quietly - then it's one thing. But tasers occasionally kill people and I prefer cops/security folks didn't pick that as their first option based on the premise that he might do something or because it's easier than chasing him.
  18. You'd have to say that this is a pretty brutal line for Kiko Calero: 1.1 IP; 7 ER; 8 H; 1 HR; 1 K -- but 0 BB so, y'know, it's not ALL bad
  19. Acosta - 0.5 Bay - 0.7 Wright - 0.7 Blanco - 0.8
  20. Feliciano - 0.5 Rodriguez - 0.5 Nieve - 0.5 Wright - 2.0 Barajas - 2.0
  21. Perez - 3.2 Nieve - 1.0 Feliciano - 0.5 Mejia - 0.5 Castillo - 1.5 Davis - 0.7 Francoeur - 1.0 Reyes - 1.0 Wright - 0.6
