  2. Niese - 4.5 Parnell - 0.3 PFeliciano - 0.1 Wright - 1.8 Cora - 2.5 Francoeur - 0.6 Tejada - 0.2
  3. And it took Leo Nunez three whole batters to lose the game: walk - double - 2RBI single Gained a game on everyone tonight EXCEPT Atlanta
  4. - Phils lost 2nd straight to Pittsburgh. Scored 2 on Thursday night and got shutout 2-0 on 5 hits by Ross Ohlendorf & O. Dotel on Friday. - Braves took a late 2-1 lead vs Florida but Wagner served up a leadoff 9th inning HR to Gaby Sanchez. Now in the 11th, Marlins got 2 on and tried a suicide squeeze. Batter missed the bunt but the Braves dropped a rundown throw so he scored anyway. Fish now have to hold in the bottom up 3-2 - And just for good measure, Yanx gave up 5 in the 11th to lose a Friday afternoon game (what's up with that?) against Toronto Real culprit was Joba who blew a lead in the 8th even after getting bailed out by his fielders twice.
  5. Maybe the Aussies need to tell Nilsson that they can't play if playing is without you.
  6. Q: How do you tell the difference between New York and Toronto? A: In New York you take the A train while in Toronto you take the train ay!
  7. - It's hard to tell a Canadian from an extremely boring regular white person unless he's dressed to go outdoors. Very little is known of the Canadian country since it's rarely visited by anyone but the Queen and illiterate sport fishermen. It is thought to resemble a sort of arctic Nebraska. It is reported that Canadians keep pet French people, which, if true, is their only interesting trait. At any rate they are apparently able to train Frenchmen to play hockey which is more than any European has ever been able to do. -- from P.J. O'Rourke's "Foreigners Around the World" -- National Lampoon, May 1976
  8. Clark Gillies - one-time NY Islander star and native of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan - when asked where one would find Moose Jaw: "about six feet in front of its ass"
  9. Saltalamacchia was always a questionable defensive catcher to begin with even before various injuries - mental and physical - kicked in. I think what Texas wants out of Bengie is a good "receiver" for all their young pitchers as they're in an actual pennant race for the 2nd half - and one they're not committed to beyond this year - while they wait to see what to make of Salty. Whatever bat they get out of him is a bonus, particularly if Hamilton & Vlad keep hitting like they have been recently. Meanwhile, Molina reportedly opted for SF over the Mets for the supposed "stability" and comfort level he'd get there when Omar wouldn't guarantee a 2nd year. How's that stability looking now fatso?
  10. Dessens - 0.3 Igarashi - 0.6 Rodriguez - 0.5 Parnell - 0.4 JFeliciano - 1.3 Wright - 1.8 Tejada - 1.0 Davis - 1.0 Bay - 1.0 Carter - 0.8 Thole - 0.8 Cora - 0.5
  11. Dessens - 0.2 Rodriguez - 0.5 Parnell - 0.4 Wright - 1.3 Tejada - 1.4 Reyes - 0.5 Pagan - 0.5 Barajas - 0.5 Francoeur - 0.5 Carter - 0.8 Thole - 0.8
  12. We need a single here Rod. Cut down on the swing and just meet it.
  13. G-Fafif wrote: One must never enjoy the physical suffering of another human being. It's mean and it brings bad karma. But oh man... Are you kidding?!? Fans getting snacked in the face because they're on a celly is the definition of a good day. That it happens to be a Yanx fan can only be described as a double-bonus.
  14. Nice of McClellan to ring up Hanley by the time he was back in the dugout.
  15. Not that the Marlins don't have a bunch of hard-hit balls tonight ... but they got a ton of shit hits too; dribblers, bloops, stuff too crappy to turn DPs
  16. Murphy's Law applies whenever we play Florida. I'm going to need some of that Puerto Rican Rum to get through this game.
  17. I'm flicking back and forth between the game and a NatGeo documentary on that guy from 'Midnight Express' and life in a Turkish jail seems less depressing than the game.
  18. This game suxx but Elmer continues to ascends.
  19. So this "starts the clock" on Ollie's "rehab" Within 20 days they'll have to either promote him or find (invent, cause) a new injury.
  20. IIRC, Sherman was the guy who praised Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik prior to the season - "look who these idiot Mets let get away" - while the Ms were everyone's pre-season trendy breakthrough pick (how's that working out?). Not that a poor half-season is proof that he won't make a good GM, only that it's not as automatic as we were led to believe and if his moves were golden then Lee wouldn't be up for discussion. But if Zduriencik is determined to hold out for top prospects there's always a point at which you walk away. There's always some other fish in the sea (Oswalt et al) and you can let some other team pay his ransom. He can also follow through on the implied threat to take the draft picks although that's frequently not nearly the no-brainer it's made out to be. Depending on who signs him, those picks could be as high as upper-teens or as low as the 50s or 60s; choices probably less sure to make it to MLB than even those less than blue-chippers already halfway through the minors. As for Sherman's packages -- a three-for-one suggestions involving Flores plus two good pieces sound too pricey to me. As far as Thole, I don't let him stand in the way of almost any deal. I'm not convinced he's anything other than a backup in the future.
