  1. Would seem to be worth a 2-year deal if the price is reasonable - although I'm not quite sure where I'd stick the boundries for "reasonable". Wouldn't want to go beyond 2 years though.
  2. Cashman "guaranteed" after Friday's loss that Girardi would be back. In other words it's probably 50/50 TEAMMgr - Sept 10STATUS / UpdatedMgr (NEW) 2011AsB. GerenOption Picked up for 2011B. 3. "The Giants have three former Yankees on their staff - the batting coach Hensley Meulens, the first base coach Roberto Kelly and Righetti." Yeah boy, that's a trio of real beloved Yanquis. OK, Righetti was, but Meulens - who, seeing as how YLDBs were touting him as the next Mantle when he was in their system, must only be considered a failure, and Kelly - who YLDBs actually liked and wondered why the team was trading him for that NL loser Paul O'Neill, meaning that the best move of his Yanqui career was his departure
  4. Your post implies that K-Rod is entitled to close (or finish) Mets games. No, I'm saying that because he has closed games his entire career, was signed by the Mets as a closer, is being paid like a closer, and the club put in an option in the current deal saying that the three year deal becomes a four year as long as he is healthy enough and still effective enough in that role, that a sudden departure from that use just as the vesting threshold approaches would make it tough to view the change as anything other than a move designed solely to make sure the option was never reached. I would shirley see it that way.
  5. That Phillips was bitter towards Rickey and didn't want him to get a ring is certainly not a secret. Not then, not since. I don't specifically remember him trying to hide that sentiment behind some goofy and made-up-just-for-the-occasion "rule", but it wouldn't surprise me.
  6. It's New York vs Washington!! Man those east coast teams always dominate everything. Francoeur, btw, is the last remnant for the Rangers from their ARod signing. Joquin Arias was the throw-in (the Rangers reportedly chose him over another young player named Cano) on top of main bait Alfonso Soriano from the Yanx in exchange for ARod, and now Francoeur continues that trade thread. And think about how, when the Rangers signed him to that monster contract all those years ago, they must have envisioned ARod on the field and maybe even in the batters box at 'The Ballpark' when they clinched their first WS appearance. Well, their wish came true. I'm pulling for the Giants in 7 - but don't have a lot of rooting interest in this one way or the other. Just hoping for a good series.

  8. "I'm Ken Rosenthal here with Giants' outfielder Aubrey Huff" "What, I hear something" "Down here Aubrey" "Oh, hi Ken"
  9. Ryan Howard joins ARod & Beltran in the 'End the LCS while looking at a curve ball with the bat on your shoulder' club.
  10. The Second Spitter wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Gotta pinch-run for Polanco, no? You should be managing a MLB team. Well, he eventually went with a pr although not with Brown. His move saves one player if they tie it up and Valdez would be the replacement, but Brown is faster than either and if they miss scoring a guy by a stride or two while their fastest guy sits on the bench ...
  11. Gotta pinch-run for Polanco, no? Where's Domonic Brown?
  12. PH (prolly Domonic Brown), then Rollins, then Polanco
  13. Wilson hitting w/sacks loaded and 2 outs ... oh wouldn't this be nice
  14. Aubrey Huffed and he puffed, but he couldn't blow the Phils' house down
  15. Same on you Shane !
  16. The type of fan Bondy prefers to promote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztPQieRucKE&feature=related
  17. If I was the arbitrator hearing your arguments, I'd throw your case out the window and out of my courtroom. Because you really don't believe in the legitimacy of the argument or because it doesn't fit your hoped-for outcome? Don't bother, I think we both know the answer to that already. And look, it's not like I'm rooting for the option to kick in or anything. I just don't share the optimism some of you share in thinking that it's going to be simple to side-step.* * Maybe this topic should be split-off and some of the legal beagles on this site can chime in.
  18. Bondy long ago admitted that he's a YLDB and NYM hater to the point where he's incapable of thinking or writing about either subject with an unbiased eye. It's probably the main reason he is assigned to the NL series lest he be moved to (again) write long and lovingly about the obnoxious and sometimes criminal behavior of the "bleacher creatures". That his main point about history determining this year's outcome - despite that history involving no current Rangers and only a few current Yanquis - was shot down by the only two players he quoted clearly didn't stop him from making an ass out of himself by clinging to the theory. "a New York Times reporter declaring with anguish her retirement from sports writing after fighting the backward postgame flow of fans" What exactly is a "backward flow of fans" ? Did they leave the stadium walking backwards? ... Did the poor writer's dinner plans get upset by her unfamiliarity with the local traffic patterns? ... Did some of the patrons look like extras from the caveman Geico commercials and drag her off by the hair? What I remember most from the late '90s Ranger-Yanx series was more than a few NY writers spending most of their time tripping over themselves to tell us what a backward outpost the Dallas/Ft Worth area was, specifically things like the lack of good Italian restaurants where sportswriters could mingle. Gee, life just doesn't get much tougher than that.
  19. Ryan may have a pot belly and several heart procedures under his ample belt, but he still looks like a tough ol' bird.
  20. metsguyinmichigan wrote: No new uniform number for Girardi next year. He still has to worry about just getting a uniform next year. Also, last game for Pettitte? ... there's talk he may retire. Last MFY game for Jeter? ... highly doubt it, but his is going to be one interesting contract negotiation
  21. Well, Houston got to a World Series first but the stRangers can claim bragging rights even if they don't win simply by not getting swept and being the first Texas team to win a WS game
  22. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Didn't even swing!!!!! So does his bat on the shoulder to end an LCS get brought up as a symbol of franchise failure every 20 minutes like Beltran's did/has/still is
  23. OK, now I'm all in on San Fran Was hedging my bets thinking that Philly might be better anti-MFY venom but now that excuse it OUTTA HERE
  24. Nope, he's going to Feliz.
  25. I had every confidence that the stRangers were going to hit Hughes tonight. I just wasn't so sure that the Yanx weren't going to hit back. Lewis proved that wrong.
