  2. Pelfrey - 1.4 Acosta - 0.6 Parnell - 0.4 Evans - 2.8 Wright - 2.0 Pagan - 1.0 Turner - 0.5 Duda - 0.6 Tejada - 0.7
  3. I don't think it bodes either way for anything. As mentioned, most of the league is placed on waivers based on the thinking that either the claiming club is in such a state of desperation that they'll offer you a deal too good to turn down (did you say you'd include your top six prospects or your top seven?), or that the sheer volume of players floating out there maybe disguises the handful of guys you really want to slide through. The age of computer data-bases and multiple asst GMs probably killed that second reason a while back but that was traditionally part of the thinking and old habits die slowly in the baseball world.
  4. Jim Palmer was crying on-air talking about it after last night's game. Rough to watch.
  5. Yeah, I'm sure Jeter's 20% XBHs (in a hitter's park) are far more meaningful, timely, and productive as compared to Murphy's soft 29%
  6. Walking Mayberry there and letting him hit a HR is essentially the same thing. but he gets Ruiz on the first pitch as I'm typing and our (sort of) long (not really) national nightmare is over.
  7. Oh good Bobby, let's start our first official save opp with a four pitch walk. It's not like Howard & Pence are due up or anything ... oh wait.
  8. Turner starts what was probably (hopefully) the game-winning GiDP - bailing out Duda's ass. Or, to put it another way, if that ball gets through I think the odds of the Mets winning this game sink below 50/50

  10. Another half-inning that wouldn't have beens scoreless if Jason Bay were still alive.
  11. At the rate this game is going it'll probably run into tomorrow's off-day. The stupid thing about this one from the Pelfrey viewpoint is that he's in constant trouble without getting hit all that hard. I think every Philly hit has been a single* and most of those have been nothing more than grounders that found a hole (some hard, others not so much) which just as easily could have been outs or even DPs. But it's the walks, the 3-2 counts, the bushel of fouls, his inability to put hitters to bed, and the S-L-O-W pace he's working at that's killing him. * Utley had a double which Pagan caught then dropped
  12. Get your misery early today. Mets will have several new and/or re-cycled faces on the team by then (at least we hope they will) so that's something to look forward to ... I guess. Odds on today's DL assignee will be posted later.
  13. Duda - 1.5 Turner - 1.2 Evans - 1.7 Byrdak - 0.3 Parnell - 0.3
  14. Via Adam Rubin: Jon Niese and Scott Hairston will be placed on the DL with rib cage injuries, Terry Collins said after Tuesday's loss in Philadelphia. (didn't know those things were contagious) Niese reinjured a muscle on his right side delivering a pitch to Philadelphia's Hunter Pence in the third inning. He originally injured the area in his previous start in San Diego, and was pushed back a day before facing the Phillies to give extra time to rest. Hairston injured his right intercostal muscle on a swing later in Tuesday's game. Hairston recalled missing a month in 2007 with a pulled oblique, but described this injury as less severe. He expected to receive an MRI after the Mets return home following Wednesday's matinee in Philly. In addition to two immediate call-ups, the Mets also will have to fill two starting assignments early next week against the Marlins -- Niese's turn and a spot starter for a rainout makeup. Collins expected the two starters would be selected from Chris Schwinden, Miguel Batista and Pat Misch. Niese regretted not speaking up after the issue got intense delivering the pitch to Pence. The next batter, John Mayberry Jr., belted a three-run homer as Philadelphia took a 4-0 lead en route to a 9-4 win.
  15. Some speculation about him being made into a starter as well. I think the Bison thing is just that they are allowed to send him down next year if the situation warrants where they could not do that this year without losing him.
  16. Doesn't help matters that this also happens to be 'Bloop one in front of our Outfielders' week.
  17. Well at least Niese was good tonight ... for two innings.
  18. Do you suppose we can keep the combined score of this series under 30-0 ??
  19. 0-6 w/RiSP by the 2nd inning, no balls out of the infield, 5 Ks, all looking. You can't even do that trying.
  20. Mid-2012 reinforcements could come in the form of Harvey, and/or Mejia, and/or Wheeler. On the other hand, you know what they say about good young pitchers; the best way to get one is to sign five of them.
  21. And speaking of the Pirates and long-term deals ... [from above]: The Pirates could sign Fielder and still have one of the game's smallest payrolls. I don't think GM Neal Huntington has committed even $20MM total to a player in his tenure, and it'd cost that much for one year of Fielder. It just doesn't seem like his style, but if ownership decides that the team is close they do technically have the need and payroll space ... ... did they really need to go out and sign Jose Tabata to a six year deal plus several options that could keep him in a Pittsburgh uni thru 2019?!? I mean he's looking like an OK player and he just just turned 23, plus it's not huge money since it's not a real FA contract but mostly the buying out arb years plus extending a couple seasons into FA territory. But, as of now, he's a .360-ish OBA corner OFer with 4 HRs in 300 ABs this season and less than 800 PAs for his career. What seemed to be the rush and the timing of it struck me as odd.
  22. From BA's 'Daily Dish' today: Double-A righthander Matt Harvey, the Mets' top pick in 2010, opposed [Tiger prospect Drew] Smyly in a prospect showdown in Binghamton [last night]. Harvey struck out five and walked two, but more importantly he shut out the [Erie] SeaWolves over seven innings, allowing four hits, to win his fourth straight start. After a rough introduction to Double-A, he's been downright mean in his past five starts, logging 29 innings and allowing 22 hits, seven walks and seven runs (2.17 ERA) while striking out 31
  23. Looks like the quake even shook-up the lineup. Now let's hope it causes some actual damage.
