  1. I've got an uninterrupted roll going on here - and by 'roll' I mean a one-game winning streak, and by 'uninterrupted' I mean it was interrupted for two days. But we get double the usual dose of baseball today and it starts with Recently Adequate Dickey facing on Anibal Sanchez Sanchez -- 7-6; 4.01; 1.29 WHiP -- faced the Mets on June 24 in Florida holding them to two runs through six before Wright got him for a 2R HR in the 7th and a 4-3 NYM lead. Acosta held the lead in the 7th but Parnell did not in the 8th. Marlins won, Sanchez got a ND
  2. They haven't yet finished the first game in Boston (rain delay in the 7th) so I don't think they're getting the 2nd one in. So it turns out not to have mattered whether they tried a single or double admission DH - but just the fact that they were so intent on not losing one game's gate when everyone knew the weather was going to get worse with each minute shows what a bad decision it was.
  3. - Philly's attempt to get in one of their two games with Florida goes down the drain before it even starts. - They're getting the game in in Boston (Sox lead Oakland 8-2 in the 5th) and will try to play tomorrow's game at 5:00. Even for a potential hurricane they wouldn't concede to a single-admission DH.
  4. Capuano - 5.7 Duda - 1.6 Tejada - 1.0 Evans - 0.6 Turner - 0.7 Thole - 0.4
  5. Rangers/Angels is really the only interesting series going on this weekend. LAA had won six straight to cut the Texas lead down to 2 games but the Rangers drew first blood last night and it's back to 3.0 In every other match-up it seems like a contending team is facing on that's below .500
  6. I don't know where else to put this... the world revolves around the MFYs says the MFYs: http://content.usatoday.com/communities ... Stories%29 MFY's crying over Irene forcing Orioles to reschedule inconveniently for them. Boo-hoo, no off day. Caught a portion (but not all) of the O's announcers (Gary Thorn) talking about this story. The Bal'mer angle on this is that the Yanx apparently cooked up the scenario they wanted to see happen and submitted the plan to whoever decides these things without ever consulting the home-team Orioles on the matter and then got all mad when it didn't automatically happen. Needless to say, Buck Showalter is only too happy to pull for whatever option says the biggest 'FU' to the Yanx.
  7. Chad Ochoseis wrote: Howie seemed to think that Pagan's attempt to get to second was the right move - it was just luck and perfect Brave execution after the wild throw that got him. Yeah, it wasn't horrible - I was just looking for nits to pick on an otherwise near-perfect night. Only problem was that he never looked to see if the play was being backed up. It was, plus the Braves got a good bounce making the play not all that close. He also could have used a more aggressive slide. The worse play was him not running on a 2-out fly ball although that one mattered less. Nats just lost on a walk-off 2B Creeping back up towards third place.
  8. Nuthin' else to say but, WOW! The kind of game where you figure your PotG voting by asking; 'OK, who gets the other 4 points?' And except for Pagan running to 2nd when he shouldn't have, or Pagan forgetting the number of outs at one point (not a factor as it turned out) it was virtually a perfect game all around. Couple of two-out hits, two nice plays by Turner, and a whole lotta Cappy.
  9. Nice two-out hits before that in bottom 5. I'd hate to have our current 12-1 base-runner advantage and not have at least a small lead.
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Cappy perfect through four! And now the obligatory post where we say that broken bat hit is all your fault.
  11. Or maybe HE realized that 'Friday Night Lights' getting canceled coupled with her talent as an actress made it pretty much certain that she'd never work again and who wants a woman hanging around with all the time in the world and nothing to fill it but shopping.
  12. If we win tonight we sweep the series!!!!
  13. Not quite sure what the Yanx can do to "manipulate" things for Jeter to hit .300 The main reason he's close is that he's hitting over .420 in August.
  14. The games will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader on September 8, beginning at 4:10 PM [a Thursday, previously an off-day]. Saturdays game tickets will be honored for admission to the doubleheader; tickets to Sundays game will be handled under the Mets rain check policy.
  15. btw, the Yanx batted a stunning [u:15brqcgx]16 times[/u:15brqcgx] with the bases loaded on Thursday (in eight innings) so, rather than a monumental achievement, I think their 3 grannies were pretty much par for the course. Brett Gardner had three cracks at it with the sacks juiced (pop-out, pop-out, infield single) while Jeter had four (GO, BB, GO, K)
  16. Marlins, meanwhile, had a DH on Wednesday, have another sked for Saturday (in Philly ... good luck) and then have the one with us on Monday. I think Jack McKeon might have to take the mound for them at some point.
  17. metirish wrote: Sunday game cancelled , Saturday game moved from 4pm to 1pm. Rubin per AJC. What's the Saturday TV situation, still FOX or do the local channels take over?
  18. I/we are on a one-game winning streak so it's clear there's no stopping this momentum. Well, OK, maybe Tim Hudson can stop it seeing as how he's 8-1 w/a sub-2.00 ERA over his last 12 starts including holding us to one 1st-inning run over 8 innings the last time we faced him ... but hey, that was three weeks ago, practically another lifetime. He faces Chris Capuano who is ... ummm, fresh off a pinch-running appearance. It's the calm before the storm game - and one in which viewers can count the number of times Keith makes some sort of comment about how Irene is going to affect his cross-LI driving and/or patio furniture.
  19. And before the game was out, Curtis Granderson chipped in with a 3rd MFY GS of the day. 22-9 was your final. None of which changes the fact that Phil Hughes still sucked today.
  20. Geez, doesn't Oakland have anyone who can pitch relief?!? They survived the first grand-slam but not the 2nd one (Russel Martin) and now it's 16-7 Yanx. Too bad too, Oakland was going for the sweep today.
  21. Maryland authorities say gunshot wound to the head. No note, but apparently some financial troubles/worries.
  22. Except that now it's 7-6 (Cano GS) and the Cranks have the bases loaded w/1 out*. Phil Hughes started. He was coming off a good outing which led MFYs to declare 'WE'VE FOUND OUR #2 GUY FOR OCTOBER' Then today he was 80+ pitches in when he was pulled still in the 3rd inning and already down by 4. His reliever was greeted with a 3R HR and (I thought) the rout was on. * and now Gardner & Jeter both fail to bring runners around so it remains 7-6. 2nd time today Jeter grounded out with 2 outs and sacks full. But he remains super-duper-clutch.
  23. Then there was the time in 1999 when Harold Baines got through waivers unclaimed and was subsequently dealt from Baltimore to the Indians in late August. When Steinbrenner found out that a possible post-season rival had gotten a player because the Yanx failed to put in a claim he blew a fuse and declared it would never happen again. So Cashman had to toss aside that gentleman's agreement about not putting in claims unless you were truly interested in the player, a move which pissed off a lot of his fellow GMs but they didn't have to deal with the wrath of George. Anyway, that's how the Yanquis wound up with Jose Canseco in 2000. They (not surprisingly) put in the only claim when the fading Jose's name was floated at which point Tampa couldn't say, 'Here, he's yours, contract and all', quickly enough. So the Yanx wound paying some $4mil bucks for 100 or so ABs from a player they had absolutely no interest in acquiring.
  24. soupcan wrote: Well that sounds stupid. Why wouldn't a team claim him? - because they realize he'll just be pulled back - and because a lot of GMs go by the unwritten 'don't block (claim) my guys and I won't block yours' agreement
  25. metirish wrote: Terrible , did he leave behind wife and kids? Grown kids I believe. At least one report is talking about him being despondent over what he perceived to be negative feelings towards him and his role in the downturn of the Orioles org over the last number of years.
