  1. The only break Turner gets from his out at 3rd on Sunday was that there were two outs and making them throw to 3rd in an attempt to get him assured that the run would score. I think it would have scored anyway but I bet that was in his thought process. It seemed as if Nieuwenhuis did [u:3062ukpr]not[/u:3062ukpr] take an extra base on Saturday when he could have and probably should have - although the network feed didn't note it and we never got a second look. The funny part this weekend was watching the DBacks constantly playing tight, pitching-out, throwing-over, and just plain worrying over the NYM running game as if Reyes, Pagan & Beltran were all still here. And then when Ransom finally played back at 3B, Ruben dropped on bunt on them and beat it out easily (albeit while tripping on his face at the end)
  2. WHEW! The Kubel fly to LF looked innocent enough but that Montero shot at the end scared the snot out of me.
  3. Yeah, Turner should ideally be your third option at SS, not the 2nd. Didn't realize that they had demoted Valdespin in favor of Carrasco prior to the game. Can't bring Valdespin back for 10 days unless they DL Tejada (or someone else). Meanwhile, I see where they've got action going in the bullpen but, in my mind, R.A. needs to fall apart big time before I even think about yanking him from this game.
  4. Loadin' up on the lefties vs the RHP Cahill 1) Andres Torres CF 2) Kirk Nieuwenhuis LF 3) David Wright 3B 4) Lucas Duda RF 5) Daniel Murphy 2B 6) Ike Davis 1B 7) Ruben Tejada SS 8) Josh Thole C 9) R.A. Dickey RHP Them guys: 1) Willie Bloomquist SS 2) Gerardo Parra RF 3) Justin Upton CF 4) Jason Kubel LF 5) Paul Goldschmidt 1B 6) Miguel Montero C 7) Cody Ransom 3B 8) John McDonald 2B 9) Trevor Cahill RHP
  5. Braves wound up winning Sat night's game 13-9 following waits for a fan who had gotten smoked by a foul ball and then an 8th inning rain delay. That's now three wins for them where they've come back from 5 or more runs down ... since Wednesday! Wed: Down 6-0 to Halladay & the Phils in the 5th - won 15-13 in 11 (a 4:00 game) Fri: Down 5-0 in the 1st in Colorado - won 9-8 in 11 (also 4 hours even) Sat: Down 6-0 after 2 - won 13-9 (3: 27 - not counting two separate delays) Naturally on Thursday they got shut-out in 2 hours, 2 minutes
  6. THIS ONE DETERMINES WHO WINS THE FIRST SERIES IN MAY - IT DOESN'T GET ANY BIGGER THAN THIS !!!!! 1:10 - Cahill vs Dickey

Still worth a party if it meant the end of Buck and McCarver. You might get rid of Buck - although he works so few games as it is (gotta spend all of July & August "preparing" for those all-important NFL exhibition tilts) that FOX just might allow him to do a handful of weekends for another entity. McCarver's a different story though. When CBS had the national package they hired McCarver When ABC had the national package it hired McCarver. When FOX got the package they hired McCarver.
  8. TransMonk wrote: While we're on the subject, though, can't we just have A GAME of the week and not a blackout of every afternoon game on Saturdays all summer long? Short answer: Money. Because baseball is much more a local sport than a national one so the networks know that if their game goes up against a local one that fans in cities not involved in the game will opt out of theirs. Hence they offer MLB a check with many more zeros in it if no other broadcast is allowed to compete with the game(s) that they're showing. And I'm not suggesting you need to love FOX, only to recognize that if some other network out-bids them for the rights the next time the contract comes up then they're certainly going to want a similar arrangement.
  9. Friday the Rox took a 1st inning lead of 5-0 before giving all back to the Braves and losing in extras Today they had a 6-0 lead after two and have given it all back. 8-8 in the 7th and it's about to get worse. Nats thumped Worley & the Phils 7-1
  10. Season HR gap now 29-18 -- Runs scored off HRs = 52-24 Last ten games = 15-5 & 33-6
  11. Four runs again, and all in one inning again! I suppose when you're shut out in 15 of 17 half-innings over two days winning one of two is about the best you hope for.
  12. There are chess matches with a quicker pace than this game. Do Kirk Gibson and the DBacks realize that they've thrown over the 1st base more often in this game alone than the Mets even have SB attempts this whole season?
  13. When you can't get Mike Nickeas out, they pull you from the game.

Highlights normally show up within a couple of minutes online and on the app..just not on Saturdays. It limits the ability of other teams to start games during Fox's window, messing with what's best for that team and it's fanbase. If a pitcher is pitching a perfect game up against the Fox game (how dare they schedule another game for that time?!) MLB Network can't even show it on their own channel. Fox will usually cut away like they did for Humber, but teams actually watching that game may not want to cut away, particularly not 100% away. It's just a mess. But again, if you folks are planning on throwing a party if and when the next contract gets awarded to a different network you're going to be sorely disappointed when the only thing that changes is the number on your dial.
  15. We're really good at hitting foul balls so far today.
  16. Let's hope for no more stinko de Mets-o 1) Andres Torres CF 2) Ruben Tejada SS 3) David Wright 3B 4) Scott Hairston LF 5) Daniel Murphy 2B 6) Justin Turner 1B 7) Kirk Nieuwenhuis RF 8) Mike Nickeas C 9) Johan Santana LHP Ike not hurt, says Terry, just rest, a LHP, and a chance to get Turner some aBs
  17. Yeah, it's not like GotW would be substantially different if suddenly handed to another network.
  18. If and when Ike manages to get one past the 2nd baseman, THEN I'll consider contemplating that a wave is en route.
  19. - HR gap for the season now at 28-18 and runs via HRs at 51-24 - In the last 9 games we're being out-homered 14-4 with runs off those HRs sitting at 32-6 - Of our "Big" HR-hitters: Duda has one in the last three weeks Wright: One in the last three weeks Davis: none since 15 games ago and Murphy has the 4th most ABs in MLB this season without a HR (behind Bourne, Pujols, Rollins)
  20. Gee - 2.5 Parnell - 0.4 Hairston - 2.0 Torres - 2.0 Tejada - 0.6 Murphy - 1.5
  21. And certainly not in the same week. Meanwhile, after we were busy fucking up things in the 8th, the Braves won in extras, the Nats won in extras, and the Marlins won in extras. Actually we can't even blame it all on the 8th, not when you get shut out in 8 of the 9 innings, manage mostly singles (2 2Bs) and then erase three of the 12 base-runners you do get via two GiDPs + a CS. The pitching and defense just adds to all that.
  22. Alas, Jerry Jr ended the day with just three hits. Certainly would have been a first though. Nats & Phils are tied in extras. It seems a bit creepy that I find myself pulling for the Phils here. Braves (Hudson) gave up 5 in the 1st to the Rox. Now the Braves are winning.
  23. I know we probably discussed this before, but what about Robert Carson and those other 2 or 3 guys in NYM history who got called up but never appeared in a game? It appears that we're not counting them in this list but don't most sources (UMDB, MbtN and others) count them since they most certainly did take up a roster spot?
  24. Ike still fighting for his right to suck.
  25. Scott Hairston: Man put on this earth to maul left-handers
