  1. Somehow Jeremy Affeldt gets to pitch two consecutive innings - in a save situation no less - and yet the world did not fall off its axis.
  2. A little between innings musical interlude in honor of midnight EDT recorded at, where else, the Midnight Special [youtube:3hsripmr]QwKJcQq3a1M[/youtube:3hsripmr]
  3. Man Posey blocks a lot of shit back there.
  4. It's midnight in Manhattan Marco Scutaro, this is no time to get cute.
  5. Valdespin = not a real CF That's two bad routes today. Neither was an error, both were catchable.
  6. The hitting in GiDP part we've got down-pat.
  7. Meanwhile down in Washington, the depleted Phillies jumped all over Strasburg and won 8-0 [u:nju5enud]2nd[/u:nju5enud] win of the season for still-Phil Cliff Lee

Burnett did NOT get his no-no (2-out single in the 8th) The odd part about this is that it continues the Cubs' run as the longest streak since last being no-hit. I don't want to say it's been a while or anything but Koufax was the last pitcher to do it.

Maybe it's a "they're young" thing? Except that there was no reason to rush that one. I'm on the verge of being convinced that they plan to fuck up DPs at the exact moment when they'll do the most damage. Prior to that the Mets were at 8% of DP turned when the MLB league average is 11%. Stats can't begin to tell the story of how much damage our failed DPs have done this season. I'm convinced every one of them has led to at least two runs and often more.

  11. Pence will not be activated tonight (even if he shows up). Schierholz spot was taken by recalling 1B Brett Pill (giving the Giants three 1Bmen each with a four-letter last name: Pill, Belt & Huff) When Pence gets activated (most likely tomorrow) Huff will most likely be DL'd (again) following the foot/leg injury he got last night So the Giants may be two players down tonight assuming that Huff may be on the shelf too.
  12. Just two last time I looked.
  13. How can this keep happening? You couldn't fuck up this many GiDPs if you scripted it.

  15. Heyman -- "Appears Dempster is headed to the Rangers"
  16. Teixeira's wrist "inflammation, not structural damage" DeWayne Wise, dropped when Ichiro was added, refuses AAA assignment and will be FA. Don't think he'd be of much use to us, but could see him hooking up with Philly for the rest of the year to serve as a kind of Victorino-lite.

Nate Schierholz is in the deal like you said according to various hacks on Twitter...... Now what we need is for Pence's travel plans to get screwed up (nothing serious, just some weather canceled flights or something) causing him to not arrive in SF until say Thursday night. That way the Giants will be playing short for the next couple games. John Sickels on Tommy Joseph -- Hitting .263/.317/.397 for Richmond, eight homers, 25 walks, 62 strikeouts in 300 at-bats. Has caught 48% of runners. Defense and plate discipline have improved, but power production is down. Sharp platoon split, kills lefties (.338/.386/.500) but struggled against right-handers (.236/.292/.359). and on Seth Rosin (the 3rd player going to Philly) -- 4.31 ERA with 68/18 K/BB in 56 innings for San Jose, 49 hits, 10 saves. Has pitched better than the ERA indicates, note strong K/IP ratio.
  18. Marlins deal Gaby Sanchez to the Pirates Go Bucs!!
  19. Edgy DC wrote: He also ended up with a blown save, mostly because of the mistakes of others he was inheriting. He also ended up with his first ML win.

  21. SOMEBODY has to want Rauch and Hairston - it's just a question of what's being offered in return. Neither is a guy you have to to move for salary, or chemistry, or make room for the rookie reasons, so you don't want to be dealing them just to deal. Also don't have to move them today. Hairy, in particular, is the type you see a team pick up with only weeks to go in the season (subject to all the obvious restrictions).
  22. Kind of a good news/bad news thing that the guy we most trust out of the pen, Edgin, is the one only in the majors about an hour and a half. He, along with Hairston obviously, was the real hero last night.
  23. -- The Braves acquired right-handed-hitting outfielder Reed Johnson and left-hander Paul Maholm from the Cubs in exchange for two Minor League pitchers, one of them heralded pitching prospect Arodys Vizcaino. I guess this was plan B after Dempster turned them down, but it sounds like they paid a heavy price. Meanwhile, last one out of the Cubs clubhouse needs to remember to turn off the lights. -- Dodgers trade two minor leaguers to Seattle in exchange for reliever Brandon League Also are said to be "working toward" a deal to get Shane Victorino -- Pirates picked up one-time uber-prospect Travis Snider from Toronto for reliever Brad Lincoln Snider, an OFer, was the 14th overall pick in 2008 who got to the big leagues by age 20 with plenty of fanfare but has never really panned out.
  24. The biggest problem in walking Belt was Acosta pitching with the bases loaded given his (lack of) control that evening. He had already walked two weak hitters (albeit not relief pitchers) that inning and some of those pitches weren't even close. The upside is that I don't think there's anything Bochy could have done to counter. Like you said, Cain, along with starter Bungarner, are his best hitting pitchers and they were both already used. Plus he was probably out of relievers too making it impossible to even PH one of the other starters (Zito, Lincecum, Vogelsong) who would presumably handle a bat better than Clay (I'm 8 for 87 in my career and no hits since 2008) Hensley.
  25. The kicker was that the pitcher was on deck and the Giants had no bench players left, but you couldn't afford to walk Belt the way Acosta was missing the plate because it would have loaded the bases. Belt was probably smart to swing at the first good thing he saw and almost won the game with it.
