  1. Mets have 1 hit w/RiSP tonight -- and that one didn't even get a run in.
  2. Hey Terry, here's a thought for your upcoming 9th inning dilemma -- why not try the guy who's given up just 3 hits and 2 walks combined over his last 8+ innings, had a .115 BAA and 0.66 WHiP during July? And here's the good part ... he's already in the game and has thrown only 10 pitches.
  3. 7 hits + 8 walks + 1 HBP + 1 error + 4 SBs somehow = 2 runs.

That's where they would be were there no interference and Thole got thrown out at first. Because to remove the incentive for the offensive team to commit an intentional interference the remedy is that all runners return to their original bases. Think about a situation where the bases are loaded w/1 out, bottom 9, tie game. Batter hits what looks like an easy 6-4-3 DP but the runner on 1st decides to simply play free safety and "intercepts" the throw to 1st. Yeah he's already out, but without the 'runners return' rule his team wins the game. The umps, in that situation, also have the option to call the batter out when the interference is so obviously intentional - but you get the idea.
  5. Tejada makes his only out of the game with the bases loaded. And Wright did the same thing earlier.

  7. Unfrickinbelievable ... and it's the right call.
  8. This is where I normally complain that umps should make that call more often ... but not here. Smart play by Baxter
  9. Gotta take the bunt off if this dude is going to be this wild !!

  11. So after we were already up 1-0 two pitches into the game, we've out-hit them 6-2 plus been given 4 walks and an error ... and are still only up by one.
  12. We gotta cash in on this situation. If not, they get three more shots at it to our two and probably two of theirs are going to be against [no don't say it!] our bullpen.
  13. Since Cain was having too much trouble getting NYM batters out tonight we decided to only make him retire one this inning.
  14. Problem is, we've already passed up several chances (like in each inning) to build up a pad against this ersatz Cain guy. And we know how failure to tack on early tends to come back and bite us.
  15. Tejada sez: 'I don' need no stinkin' rest'
  16. A nice quick inning by Niese that puts Cain right back out there with minimal rest and as his pitch count heads for 80+ in just the 4th inning.
  17. Nothing egregious so far, but Cain has had every borderline call go his way.
  18. Taking the Mets for Granite
  19. Hey, we turned a DP! I'll have to check the records but we may already have turned more so far in August than in the entirety of the month of July.
  20. Ruben razed a Cain
  21. At least for the next 7 or 8 hours they will be.
  22. "Centerfield 2013" I just hope he posts more often than he is so far in 2012 By coincidence, John Sickels answers a write-in question today on what a full year might look like from Valdespin: -- "I have a hard time thinking his [current] production holds up with such a low walk rate, but you never know for sure. I could see him developing into a 15-20 guy, but with erratic BAs and OBPs."
  23. I'm not sold on Valdespin being either a real CF or even an everyday player at this point.
  24. Ceetar wrote: Looks like Ike could use a day too. Ike actually hit two balls hard last night but was robbed both times (sliding stop by The Riot at 2B, leaping grab by Crawford at SS). It still looks however as if he continues to decide to swing (or not) before the ball is even released which results in either him whiffing badly when his guess isn't right or his bat "running into one" when it is and the ball goes rocketing off somewhere. The problem is that those good outcomes seem like the result of chance more than anything resembling working the count or thinking out the AB, and the balls he didn't hit hard last night he must have missed by at least 15 inches each.
